How to Forget a WiFi Network on Mac

Forgetting a WiFi network on a Mac is a simple process that allows you to remove a saved WiFi network from your Mac’s list of available networks. This can be useful if you no longer want to connect to a particular network or if you need to troubleshoot connection issues. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click the WiFi icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
  2. Click “Open Network Preferences.”
  3. In the Network Preferences window, click the “Advanced” button in the bottom-right corner.
  4. In the Advanced window, click the “Wi-Fi” tab.
  5. In the “Preferred Networks” section, select the WiFi network you want to forget.
  6. Click the “-” button below the “Preferred Networks” list to remove the selected network.
  7. When prompted to confirm, click “Remove.”
  8. Click “Apply” to save the changes.
  9. Close the Network Preferences window.

After you’ve forgotten a WiFi network, your Mac will no longer automatically connect to it when it’s in range. If you want to connect to the network again in the future, you’ll need to manually enter the network’s name and password.

If you’re having trouble connecting to a particular WiFi network, forgetting the network and then re-entering the name and password can sometimes resolve the issue. This can be especially useful if you’ve recently changed your WiFi password and your Mac is still trying to connect with the old password.

It’s worth noting that forgetting a WiFi network will not delete any of your saved passwords or login information. If you want to clear your saved passwords, you’ll need to do so separately. To do this, go to the “Passwords” tab in the Advanced window and select the passwords you want to delete. Then, click the “-” button to remove them.

By following these steps, you should be able to easily forget a WiFi network on your Mac and resolve any connection issues you may be experiencing. Whether you’re looking to remove a network from your list of available networks or troubleshoot a connection issue, these steps will help you get the job done.
