How to Install WiFi with No Ethernet Port

There are a few situations where it might not be possible to use an Ethernet port when configuring WiFi. Some electronics, including smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming media players, lack Ethernet ports and must instead connect to the internet wirelessly. Additionally, a house or office might occasionally lack a wired infrastructure, such as Ethernet cables that run through the walls. The main causes for someone not having an Ethernet port to use when configuring their wifi are as follows.

You can still use a wireless network (WiFi) to access the internet if you have a device that does not have an Ethernet port, such as a smart TV, gaming console, or streaming media player. Here are some techniques for doing that:

  1. Use a wireless adapter: If your device doesn’t already have a wireless adapter built in, you can buy one that plugs into a USB port or another available port instead. The adapter will enable a wireless network connection once it is connected.
  2. Use a wireless bridge: An Ethernet cable is used by a wireless bridge to connect to your wireless network and then to a device. Without a built-in wireless adapter, this enables the device to connect to the wireless network.
  3. Use a wireless extender: You can increase the range of your current wireless network by using a wireless extender. Some wireless extenders come with an Ethernet port that can be used to connect to a device without a built-in wireless adapter.
  4. Use a smart home hub: Some hubs for smart homes can connect your device to the wireless network by serving as a bridge. For instance, Amazon Echo and Samsung SmartThings can both connect to your wireless network and then pair with your device using Bluetooth.

Note: It’s a good idea to consult the user manual or the manufacturer’s website for specific instructions as the steps for connecting your device to a wireless network may vary depending on the device and the method you choose.

How to Connect Using WPS

Wi-Fi Protected Setup, or WPS, is a protocol for quick and safe wireless connections. WPS can be used to connect a printer to a wireless network without requiring a password, and it is supported by many printers. Here’s how to use the WPS button to connect a printer wirelessly:

  1. Make sure your printer is turned on and in range of your wireless router.
  2. On your wireless router, press the WPS button (usually located on the back of the router or in the router’s settings).
  3. Press and hold the WPS button on your printer for a few seconds, or until the WPS light on the printer starts flashing.
  4. The printer will now connect to your wireless network. It may take a few minutes for the printer to connect and acquire an IP address.
  5. Once the printer is connected to the wireless network, you can install the printer driver on your computer and configure the printer settings.
  6. Some printers also have a button labeled WPS on the printer’s control panel, you can press and hold this button as well.

Note: On the control panel of some printers, there may be a WPS button that you can press and hold in addition to the others. Refer to the printer and router manuals for detailed instructions as the procedure may vary depending on the brand and model of the printer and router.

It’s important to keep in mind that not all routers have a WPS button, and that the button might be placed in a different location. To find the button, consult your router’s manual.

Also, some routers may have a WPS-enabled feature in the router’s settings, you can use that feature instead of the button.
