Verizon Fios G1100 Quantum Gateway Router Modem Manual

How to Reset Your G1100

The Fios G1100 Gateway Router functions much like other routers and gateways available today. The reset button for this device is located on the back, where all the ports are. Please allow a few minutes after your device resets before using it so that it can finish resetting and power cycling.

  1. Plug in your G1100 Router and allow it to fully boot up. You’ll know it’s booted up completely when the WiFi lights come on.
  2. Locate the reset button on the back of your G1100. It’ll be a small red hole where all the ports are.
  3. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. You’ll need a paper clip or small pen cartridge to hold it down properly.
  4. After holding for 30 seconds, release and allow 1-2 minutes for your device to reboot and reset itself.

When the WiFi lights come back on, your device is ready for use and should be reset to factory default settings. If you’re still having the same issue, we recommend going through the reset again to ensure you held down the button long enough.

How to Activate with Verizon

Please Note: Not all Verizon Fios customers are eligible for self-installation. It depends on the type of service you’re subscribed to, if you’re a new customer with Verizon Fios and if service has been used with Verizon Fios at your location previously. We recommend calling Verizon to ask any questions you may have about your Fios installation.

Am I eligible for Verizon Fios self-install?

Eligibility will be determined at the time you place your order and is dependent on:

  • If service was previously located at the address and there is an existing Optical Network Terminal (ONT)
  • The status of existing equipment like the Optical Network Terminal, which must pass testing done by Verizon
  • If there is a need for any additional jacks or wiring
  • If you have the ability to do light work like installing the router and other equipment
  1.  Plug your device into the power supply cable, and allow it to boot up.
  2. Plug your device into an Ethernet cable and then plug the Ethernet cable into your computer. Alternatively, you can also connect to your G1100’s WiFi network if you do not have a device that works with Ethernet.
  3. Start your installation by heading to Verizon’s self-activation portal: Begin Verizon Self-Install

Congratulations! Once you’ve completed the self-installation prompts, you should now have internet connection.

Having Trouble?

If you’re not able to get your device activated through Verizon’s activation portal for any reason, give Verizon technical support a call and they will help figure out what went wrong. ModemGuides technical support is not able to help get your device activated as we do not have access to Verizon’s system.

How to Log Into Fios G1100 Settings Page

To log into the settings panel of a Verizon Fios G1100 DSL modem, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Connect the modem to your computer or router using an Ethernet cable.
  2. Connect the power cable to the modem and plug it into an electrical outlet.
  3. Wait for the modem to power on and initialize, which may take a few minutes.
  4. Open a web browser on your computer and enter the default IP address for the modem, which is typically http://192.168.1.1
  5. Enter the default username and password for the modem. The default login credentials are usually “admin” for the username and “password” for the password.
  6. Once you have logged in, you will have access to the modem’s settings and configuration options.

Note: In the event that you have modified the default login credentials, you will be required to enter the new username and password in order to access the system. It is possible that you will require resetting the modem to its factory default settings if you have forgotten the new login credentials.

Additionally, additional instructions can be found in the user manual that was included with the modem, as well as on the website of the modem’s manufacturer or the Verizon website.

  3. Look for an option to change the “Network Name” (SSID) or “Passphrase.”
  4. Enter the new password you want to use in the designated field and save the changes.
  5. Verify the changes and log out of the settings panel.
  6. It’s important to keep in mind that once you change the wifi password, you need to use this new password on all your connected devices.
  7. If you have any trouble with this process, you can refer to the user manual that came with the modem, or check the manufacturer website or the Verizon website for more detailed instructions.

Note: It is possible that you will need to contact Verizon for assistance if you are unable to access the modem’s settings or if you are unable to change the password.

How to Set Fios G1100 to Bridge Mode

This document describes how to configure a Verizon FiOS G1100 to act in bridge mode. This mode deactivates some cable television features, but it allows another router to obtain an IP address directly from Verizon which means that you are effectively disabling the built-in WiFi router. Lots of people do this so that they are able to use a separate wireless router for their internet service – perhaps one with more range or features.

  1. Login to the G1100 from a computer which is directly connected to one of the G1100’s LAN ports.
  2. Select Wireless Settings→ Basic Security Settings, and turn off 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz wireless. Click Apply.
  3. Select Wireless Settings→Advanced Security Settings, and disable 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSID broadcasting.
  4. Select Firewall, and set Minimum Security for both IPv4 and IPv6. Click Apply.
  5. Select My Network→Network Connections→ Advanced. Disable the listed access points, and click Apply.
  6. Note the listed broadband connection. Select it, along with Settings, and uncheck Internet Connection Firewall. Set Internet Protocol to No IP Address. Click Apply. At this point, you will loose you connection to the Internet through the G1100.
  7. Click Release and then Apply.
  8. Select My Network→Network Connections→Network (Home/Office). Change the G1100’s IP address to 192.168.1.2 so as not to conflict with the replacement router. Under the bridge section, check Broadband Connection (Ethernet/Coax) and uncheck both wireless APs. Change IP Address Distribution to Disabled.
  9. Click Apply. The G1100 is now in bridge mode, so it will no longer obtain an IP address. Connect your replacement router to one of the G1100’s LAN ports. From this point forward, you can interact with the G1100 by connecting a computer to its WAN port and manually assigning the computer an IP address on the 192.168.1.0/24 network.
