Actiontec WCB6200Q Product Manual

The Actiontec WCB6200Q is a wireless network extender and MoCA adapter with dual concurrent radios supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz operation in 802.11 a/b/g/n, and also 5GHz in 802.11ac. This allows the Extender to connect to everything from legacy wireless laptops, computers, and gaming platforms, up to the most current (and future) Apple and Android tablets, laptops, media platforms, and smartphones.

How to Install WCB6200Q

(Optional) Sync the WiFi Settings with your Router

If you’d like to use the same wireless network name and password that you use for the WiFi being broadcast by your router, you can sync them using the WPS buttons both the router and the WCB6200Q extender. Your extender will take your router’s current WiFi network name and add “-Ext” for the 2.4GHz frequency and “-Ext-5G” for the 5GHz frequency of your dual-band wireless network. It basically removes the work out of setting this up yourself in the IP settings after you’ve got your device hooked up.

  1. Place your WCB6200Q network extender next to your WiFi router.
  2. Plug in your WCB6200Q into the power supply cable and then plug the other end into the wall outlet.
  3. Wait until the WPS button (the only button located on the top of the device) on the extender is green. Once it’s green, press and hold down the button for 10 seconds.
  4. Press and hold the WPS button on your router for 2-3 seconds.
  5. Wait until the WPS light is green again on the extender before unplugging the WCB6200Q and moving it to the area of your home with spotty coverage.

Ready to Install

Now that you’re ready to begin installing your WCB6200 in the area of your home that needs a little extra signal, here’s how you get started:

  1. Place your WCB6200Q in an area with poor or spotty signal. You’ll need a coaxial outlet nearby to connect.
  2. Connect one end of the coaxial cable into the back of your WCB6200Q, then screw the other end into the coaxial wall outlet. Then, connect the power supply cable into the back of the WCB6200 and plug that into the wall outlet as well.
    • Note: if another device is using the coaxial wall outlet mentioned in steps 1 and 2 you will need a 2-way coaxial splitter so that both devices can share the same coaxial port.
  3. After plugging in your WCB6200Q, wait until both the coaxial (2nd light down from the top) and the wireless (3rd and 4th lights) are all Green. This may take a few minutes. If your coax light does not turn green, check to ensure your router supports MoCA.
  4. Next, we’re going to be logging into the WiFi to make sure everything is working as expected. You can use a laptop, tablet, smartphone or other device to connect to the range extender’s WiFi. “2.4G SSID” listed on the bottom sticker of your WCB6200 should appear in your network list to connect to. Use the “WPA Key” as the WiFi password to connect to it.
  5. Once you’re connected to the WCB6200Q, browse around to a few websites to ensure that your internet connection is working properly.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully installed your WCB6200Q! If you chose to install without syncing the settings with your wireless router beforehand, you may want to log into the settings of your WCB6200Q to set up a custom WiFi name and password.

How to Reset WCB6200Q WiFi Extender

Resetting your Actiontec WCB6200Q is one of the easiest ways to correct almost all common technical issues that you may experience over the life of your wireless range extender. It’s a super handy tool to have in your troubleshooting repertoire and can save you hours. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Plug your WiFi extender in to the power supply and wait 2 minutes for it to boot up fully. You’ll know it’s booted fully when the wireless lights come on.
  2. Locate the reset button on the back of the device. It’ll be on the same side where all the ports are located. Generally reset buttons on this kind of device will just be a tiny hole that may or may not be labeled.
  3. You’ll need a flattened paperclip or pen cartridge to do this next part. Press down and hold the reset button for 30 seconds with your extender still plugged in. You should feel a small dull click when you press in the reset button with your paperclip.
  4. Now wait a few minutes for your wireless range extender to reset and reboot itself. You’ll know it’s finished and ready to use when the WiFi lights come back on.

Tip: Still not resetting? Try just holding down for 15 or 20 seconds instead of the full 30. Some firmware versions differ on the number of seconds needed for a reset.
