CenturyLink C1000A Product Details
The Actiontec C1000A Modem is one of the best DSL modems available today. The C1000A features a gigabit 4-port Ethernet switch, dual-core 32-bit processor, wireless-N radio, and plenty of memory. As a result, this model supports a variety of demanding functions all at the same time. For comparison, many routers, for instance, only have a single-core processor, 4 MB of Flash, and up to 8 MB SDRAM. These specs are not even comparable to the specs included of the C1000A.
The C1000A beats out all competitors in terms of reliability and is one of our best-selling devices. This model is a performance powerhouse that withstands the test of time. As a result, we are proud to carry the CenturyLink C1000A at ModemGuides.com.

Good replacement to save monthly lease/rent fee for CenturyLink DLS Internet service.

Before you buy always contact your internet service provider to determine whether certain hardware works with the the internet service you have For CenturyLink customers there is a website which will tell you which modem is compatible. One thing I fail to determine, or understand, is Pair Bonding. Pair bonding is essentially fiber-based internet and not all modems are capable of transmitting pair bonded (or just bonded) signals. THIS particular modem does not So while I could down grade my service from fiber, I cannot use this particular modem until that time.
clement drawbond –
So far works good Ive had it a month. The router needs open air top and bottom to stay cool. Set up is simple just plug in and good to go
Lori –
this was to replace the same model modem I have had for years. Having trouble with the internet, replacement seemed to be the answer, it was not. I have since solved the problem so now have and older perfectly good C1000A and also a brand new one. These modems seem to last for many years. I’m very happy with these units and will someday find someone that needs my extra one.

I bought this because my last modem had a terrible upload speed. This one uploads fine but I cant get a download speed more than half of what the old one had. It sure would be nice if CenturyLink supported a few more brands of modems. Im in the sticks and need something with a more powerful transceiver. Suggestions appreciated.

Aili J. –
indicator lights are EXTREMELY bright. if you have this in a bedroom you may want to cover them with tape
Paul –
It works. One of two modems for Centurylinks VDSL network, and being the lesser of the two, it certainly shows at times. Pros being it automatically reboots periodically. Cons being it randomly reboots periodically.
Kenneth A. Ishmael –
Delivered as promised.. easy to configure.
liden –

Externally, the unit shows some minor wear, but the most important thing is that it works correctly, and it does. I purchased the unit to use with my newly-activated CenturyLink DSL internet service on an existing CenturyLink landline. There were enclosed instructions for activating this used unit, such as restoring the modem to its factory default state. Ultimately it took a call to CenturyLink customer support, which the instructions recommended doing, to get it up and running with CenturyLinks assigned PPP username and password. Ive had no problems with the unit since its successful activation a month ago and its wireless signal is strong. The used unit I received is a Model C1000A-D, which has an a 1.5A DC output power adapter. My older Model C1000A used for a different phone line, in a different house, has a 1.0A power adapter, which has required the use of a wifi extender in the house. So maybe this later version used unit has better signal strength, for this reason. I dont know. Amazon initially sent me an email order confirmation, but not the follow up notice for when the unit shipped. It was shipped to me very timely, none the less. The unit, along with its AC adapter, two cables and instructions were packaged well, but there was no enclosed shipping record, so I would say – save your shipping box label should you have to return the unit for some reason.
James H Thompson –
It worked great, just plug and play

You would only get this if you have Centurylink as your internet provider. It is an upgrade to what i had previously and it handles movies just great. With my previous device, i would get warnings on Netflix that the data speed was too slow even though I subscribed to 20 mbps. It was determined that my old router was the bottleneck and alas it was. This one is so easy to install and set up. By the way, I originally bought it from ActionTec directly for 150 (via amazon) and got one that did not have the parts or instructions and was clearly used. So i returned it and bought a slightly used one that actually looked like it was never used before and i paid somewhere around 50. This was a great purchase. In the future, i will definitely consider buying almost new since this was such a positive experience.

Great refurbished equipment. Works as it should. Was glad I opted for this and didnt get it through Centurylink for 10/month.
Douglas W –
Bought it used for 35 and it works far better than the one Ive leased for 10 a month for the last 2 years for a total of 240. Why didnt I order this sooner? Because Im an idiot obviously.

Purchased Like New from Chris1222books. Came fully boxed with all accessories. Had been powered up, as plastic film had been removed from modem, but most likely had never been placed in service. Factory admin password in use (good), and modem was in factory configured condition, also good. Was replacing existing older modem, so manual configuration through GUI was uneventful except for totally optional DNS default server change which is not intuitive, but most would not need to change default CenturyLink DNS servers. Passed all diagnostics and configured DSL line to provisioned specifications. Some have complained about WiFi coverage as there are no external antennas. My experience is that this model provides adequate but not exceptional WiFi range, slightly less range then Q1000 modem it replaced, which did have external antennas (extenders will definitely be needed for larger home). Does run warm but there are plenty of ventilation slots on modem, but probably not a modem you want to place in a small enclosed space with other heat generating gear.Note: Does have a weird acrid smell when unboxed, that others have mentioned. It seems to be slowly diminishing, but have never smelled anything like that from a piece of electronic gear, and it is quite strong and unpleasant.
Benjamin Kramer –
At a minimum dont lease equipment from a utility. Do your research first. Caveat Emptor.
RAG44 –
Great replacement modem for older, slower modem
O.J.Gary –
For used modem looks in excellent condition and works, ready for DSL service.
Customer –
Solid performance at 40Mb down / 5 Mb up for over 2 years. DHCP server, firewall, DMZ hosting and NAT all work without issue. I dont use the Wi-fi capabilities of the unit nor IPv6.
Hardcore –
This has worked great Has some scratches as any refurbished part would.
Galen R. Haugh –
This unit, although refurbished, is working fine. I protect it with a UPS, however, which everyone should do it theyre expecting it to perform flawlessly.
swClay –
Basically plug and play, with only minor configuration help from the ISP. Great wireless radio speed is good also
Irwin Electronics –
This modem is fine for ADSL, but for VDSL2, the Zyxel is much better. Yes, this will work fine for VDSL as well, but Zyxel is better.
TIM –
This will only work with your Centurylink DSL if Centurylink is your Internet Service Provider. The modem has preset parameters that cant be changed. Check with your ISP for their required settings.
Customer –
Works great worth the money.
Jeb Smith –
Have used the modem for 3 years now and no problems to date with it. Will purchase again for use with Century Link.
Dale Silbernagel –
This modem replaced an Actiontec PK5001A that was constantly losing the DSL internet connection. This modem has completely solved this problem. No loss of the internet connection in over two months.
Tom Horn –
Replaced the rental I was using….didnt have to do anything but hook it up to the computer.
Ann Magstadt –
Was what i needed
Indy Mog –
Great modem and very durable. I would be nice to have switch though but other than that I love it.
