  1. Ankur Akolia

I have used several modems and routers throughout the years and this device is by far the easiest to install and performance wise the most reliable.I had been suffering from lag problems when playing online games while using my 2wire 2701 for several months. AT&T was unable to figure out what was causing all the lag and high ping issues as the modem registered a normal signal at their end. It was only until i started looking at online reviews that i realized that i had a crappy device and decided to $70 circus act and experimenting. I was amazed at the results. The speed I’m currently getting is very close to the subscribed speed so I’m getting for the first time, the full benefit of what i pay for. Secondly, i have not seen the ping ever drop from an A grade whilst with the 2wire, the ping never rose above a C or a D grade.i usually play Battlefield 2 online and my ping is excellent always. I do not get kicked for high ping anymore as i did with the crappy 2wire.SETUP: Please make sure you read the instructions before you install. Even if you have a DSL cable running from the wall, i suggest you discard it and use the new cable that comes in the box. Secondly, Make sure you connect a filter into the wall socket and the DSL cable into the filter with the other end connected to the Actiontec or else you will not get a signal. This is very important as interference from fiber optic and other networks can cause a lack of connection. When you connect the power, wait about 30 seconds to a minute to ensure that the POWER and the DSL light are SOLID GREEN. if the DSL light is not SOLID GREEN, then you need to check the connection or else the router will not initialize beyond the first step. The included software CD-ROM is not required. All the service provider settings are built into the device itself. Simply open your browser (preferably mozilla) and type in […] and press enter. Select the first option and keep clicking next. From there on, the whole setup process will take not more than 5 minutes provided you have your user name and password handy. Furthermore, the wifi setup should take not more than a minute. I get decent range for a G router. At about 60ft and across from 2 cement walls, i get a consistent 37% signal strength which cause no lag when i sit outside and watch a youtube video. Most of our computers are desktop and are hardwired so do not care much for wifi range but it is a nice feature to have.BANDWIDTH: A 1+ GB movie download used to to take a little over an hour and 37 minutes with our 2wire. The same download now completes in a little less than an hour with the Actiontec. Of-course, with all service providers there is bottle necking but we have noticed an incredible increase in our bandwidth levels which I’m still having trouble believing due to a crappy connection for over 3 long years. This gizmo saved us the trouble of switching over to the high cost of cable.I hope this review helps! YAY for Actiontec 🙂

  2. JB

This unit was so easy to setup. I have Century Link dsl. I had no problems, no errors, no hassle setting this up. It was very simple to complete. I can’t say enough goods things about my experience I had installing this. (You need your account id and password) In all it was about 15 minutes. This unit practically configured itself. The Actiontec GT724WGR has 4 hard wire ports and wireless G. Thanks Actiontec for building a nice modem and thanks to Amazon.com LLC for getting my purchase to me quickly.

The label on the outside of the box reads GT724WR. The equipment itself is NOT that. It is the GT724R. I’ll be sending it back today. Too bad. I need a new modem badly, and I was willing to wait for this one to arrive. Now I have to wait again when I order it from another vendor. Hopefully I’ll have better luck elsewhere.
