Actiontec MI424WR Rev I Manual & Product Guides
How to Activate Actiontec MI424WR Rev I
Activating your Actiontec MI424WR Rev I is the first step you need to take after unboxing your new modem. It’s a fairly simple process, and we recommend setting aside about an hour of your time to ensure you’re able to complete the whole activation.
- Plug in your new modem the same as the one it’s replacing. Make sure power cable is plugged in and coaxial cable is screwed in on the back as well. It’s recommended to do this and then wait an hour before calling your provider, if possible, so that your modem can download whatever firmware is needed for the activation.
- Next, call your provider and let them know that you’re doing an activation with a self-install of your new modem. They’ll ask you for a few of the numbers on the bottom of the unit and then proceed to get your modem added to your account and service plan.
- The call will end after the representative verifies with you that you have an internet connection. You can test this for yourself simply by visiting a few websites.
Your modem is now activated!
How to Reset Actiontec MI424WR Rev I
Resetting your Actiontec MI424WR Rev I is one of the easiest ways to correct almost all common technical issues that you may experience over the life of your modem. It’s a super handy tool to have in your troubleshooting repertoire and can save you hours on the phone with your provider. Here’s how it’s done:
- Plug your modem in to the power supply and wait 2 minutes for it to boot up fully. You’ll know it’s booted fully when the wireless lights come on.
- Locate the reset button on the back of the modem. It’ll be on the same side where all the ports are located. Generally reset buttons on this kind of device will just be a tiny hole that may or may not be labeled.
- You’ll need a flattened paperclip or pen cartridge to do this next part. Press down and hold the reset button for 30 seconds with your modem still plugged in. You should feel a small dull click when you press in the reset button with your paperclip.
- Now wait a few minutes for your modem to reset and reboot itself. You’ll know it’s finished and ready to use when the WiFi lights come back on.
Tip: Still not resetting? Try just holding down for 15 or 20 seconds instead of the full 30. Some firmware versions differ on the number of seconds needed for a reset.
How to Find Your IP Address
This method works on Windows computers and does not require any software to be downloaded. You’ll be using command prompt to find the internal IP address so you can log into your WiFi router or modem router’s settings panel.
- Click the start menu in the bottom left of your screen.
- In the search bar in your start menu, type in “cmd.exe” and then click on that program when it appears in the search.
- When the program opens, you’ll see a black window on your screen with white text.
- Type into the program “ipconfig“, then hit Enter. Your window should look like the one shown below. The IP address circled below shows where your internal IP address will be on your command prompt window. Now you can move on to accessing your modem or modem router’s settings admin panel.

povolev –
perfect item exactly as got from Verizon
alamirew –
working good
Customer –
It’s working fine so far. Did not have any issues.
Crujo –
happy with it…improve performance of network…!
Steven Powell –
Works well, just as I thought it would, I did need help from the technician to set it up but it works great.
Zimmy –
Best price. Works well, will save money over the coming year from Verizon rental charges. Hopefully, it holds up for a long time.
Alan T Citron –
The router was missing l the components shown in the picture.
Jose Guillermo Banda –
Works well so far
John Whitlowe –
Work great, no problem at all. Great for the money
Shahriar Abachi –
Great product. Thank you.
Customer –
Not the world’s best router by far, but if you’ve got Verizon FIOS Internet and don’t have a practical option of running a network cable from the ONT and have the need to set custom firewall rules, this is THE device. The newer “Quantum Gateway” may have a newer wireless setup but the lack of a programmable firewall means that this trusty (..if perhaps a wee bit clunky) Actiontec router is the tool for the job.Purchased as upgrade for an old Actiontec Revision “F” router which lacks wired gigabit ethernet and 802.11n wireless and because Verison won’t send this router anymore – they insist the Quantum Gateway is the only upgrade.
Guy K. Mckee –
Like anything Verizon sells it will be far more expensive for the performance.
Jesse Taylor –
This is a very good product because I changed to Charter and this is a Verizon FiOS router modem that still does the trick. One has to remember this is not a DSL router.
AJ –
Router set up and working fine, no trouble in usage. Thanks
PUnk –
Over the years, I have had several of these Routers. I am not impressed. It is just a way for Verizon to charge money. With in the pass two years I’ve had to replace this 3 times. First, one stopped working. The second one arrived DOA. This third one was intermitted. It would stop working for a day or a few hour and then start working again. No action would get it to come back. I guess it would just get tired. I finally have one that works. I am not impress with the coverage. All I want to do is beat this thing with a hammer.
X Dawg –
Connected less than a week but so far so great. On 75/75 Fios network
SDFluker –
It came in on time, in the same packaging as the one I had from Verizon. Plugged it in, got set up with Verizon, so far it works fine…I’ve had it for just over a month. At setup Verizon was able to connect to the box with no problems.
Joe in TX –
Works as it should and have had no issues. The only complaint I would have is that it did not come with an owner’s manual. That is probably only related to the specific vendor that it came from — I would think they normally come with owner’s manuals. It came with everything else though.
Call Me: Pickle –
Came broken and battered. Some parts did not function.
DaSilva –
Was a quick and easy installation.
Lisa –
So far so good, no issues with connectivity or service and still working great 30 days in.
heavenblesst –
A great find. Just what we needed.
cwstanky –
Works like a charm and don’t have to pay that dumb rental fee from Verizon
GFS Philadelphia –
Works great. An easy replacement for my much older Fios router. Even my wired devices seem much faster.
Anna –
Verizon charges $10/month to rent this item so it pays for itself in 9 months and then it’s yours. The potential savings are huge if you maintain Verizon service.
Handfull –
You would think that the product would be sent with factory set up, so make sure you go through all settings, because there may be open ports program.
Bhavesh Khambhayta –
Excellent product
Customer –
The title of the product says it is an MI424-WR Rev. I router however in my package I recieved a MI424-WR Rev. F router. This doesn’t work with my Verizon Fios internet. Returning it right away. No need for a mistake like that.
Emerys –
So far, I’m loving my Actiontec. The technician from Verizon came, install and set up the internet service the other day without any issue. I was able to access the configuration online and it is just fine. My router is pretty cool in temperature and does not make any apparent noise; not that it should, but I’m just saying. It was a good deal!
JayO –
This performs well for OEM. I bought this so I didn’t have to keep paying Verizon FiOS monthly. If you buy your own, it pays for itself within a year. I wish the performance was a bit better, but I pretty much just use this for its modem capabilities and have a separate router, which works great.
baljit –
Thats great work
Gallegos –
Can somebody tell me if it work for time Warner cable
PVN –
Although the wireless speed is slow (which is expected of an older model), the wired connection is very fast and can output even 100 Mbps. It was easy to setup, and also easy to manage and go through its settings. Mine only came with one antenna, even though the product image shows two, but since I don’t connect to it wirelessly, it’s fine for my needs.
Shahaji –
This is great, already put to work and it working like charm.Very happy with the purchase.
Psalm91 –
Works very well. Saved money by not buying the router directly from Verizon.
amelee –
I’ve been using this router for 2 years with 0 problems. Haven’t had to reset it a single time. Never added it up, but I know it has saved me a good deal of money.
Rick In NorthEast –
This (from MY seller) unit requires buyer to buy/supply 2 antennas with an RP-SMA connection typeand a 12v power supply brick.None of this is supplied. (AS PROPERLY STATED IN LISTING.)Note: If you have the older ver “C”, that older power supply will not work as the oldermodel used 5v.RMA went well, but shipping cost me $12 to return.
Matt S. –
Brand new, works well. Much less than buying directly from the ISP.
Suzanna –
Works great and was way less expensive than buying directly through Verizon.
Jessica Vazquez –
It works
Ricardo A. Seneris –
It only worked for one day and one night. It is always risky buying used routers. Chances are they were bad to begin with such as intermittent moody behavior. Rather than troubleshoot them they just yank them out and replace them with a new one for an uninterrupted cable service. But, I believed it was claimed to had been tested by the seller.
J.K. –
Fair condition: Did not work, password failed 3 times even with reset. Price is great and free shipping, would consider future purchases. Pretty dinged up, coax input was loose and looked like it got some heavy use in it’s past. The sticker on router containing all the important information was very worn down, almost unreadable. Excellent return policy though.
Jeremy –
exactly like the one I was paying $6 a month for thru verizon…
JWiz –
Arrived as expected, worked flawlessly (since it is Verizon branded). The installer was able to provision ethernet for me, so I didn’t need to keep this unit. But I tested it initially and it worked great.
Customer –
I bought this router at the end of February 2016 and today (June 8 2016) it just stopped working and wouldn’t even turn on.
Customer –
Works perfectly with our new fios and was shipped very quickly!
Customer –
This router died after 3 months!
Terrazzo –
looks a bit old school with the antennas but seem to do the job.
James Wright –
Well packaged and does what it should. No need to keep renting that router!
