    E. Dobratz – July 5, 2018

Worked fantastically while it worked. Less than a year later, and it started dropping packets. Slowly at first, only slowing data transfer rates, then later so bad that connection would drop numerous times an hour. Thought the cable company was throttling, but it turned out to be the modem going bad. From what I could find online, this seems to be a common problem with these. Honestly, I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get at least a few years from new tech…

This modem will never have a steady upload speed on ps4. I’ve gotten a replacement, spent hours on the phone with my ISP, and change the MTU/DNS settings. This a huge deal when it comes to wanting to share play. You cannot do it at all. I loved my previous surfboard but after this, I do not believe I’ll be purchasing another arris product.

Arrived on time, hooked up the cable guy (and he said it was all good), and has been ticking along fabulously for a few weeks now. Two thumbs up =)

Excellent! We’ve bought and tried countless modems through our local retailer and it wasnt until we purchased this one that we actually have good service in our house. Since getting this modem the kids are very happy playing their games!

I got this so I don’t have to pay Spectrum monthly rent on a modem. It really works well, and is easy to set up. You have to contact your cable provider to register the MAC address, but it’s not difficult. In some cases you may be able to do it online, but a quick phone call is all it takes. Just remember that this is only a modem – no router included. The dedicated modem actually works better. Plug this into your wireless router or use a hub to make connections. It’s pretty easy, and you can get lots of help online. One more good thing about this modem is that it should work well for a number of years to come. Just be sure to check with your provider to be sure it’s supported by them.

Excellent replacement for my Motorola ARRIS Surfboard SB6121 which worked very well until my Internet provider upgraded to a faster speed and, naturally, I wanted to take advantage of the improvement.

Not a bad modem got about 200mbps more with this one on Comcast gigabit but got 6mbps less upload speed but I was not getting speeds anywhere near what I should be getting so I called Comcast and they told me this modem is only rated for speeds up to 682mbps with them even tho on the box it says speeds up to 1.4gbps guess that’s a lie.. Anyways good modem but if u have gigabit internet don’t buy this you won’t get the speeds you want.

Work wonders in my place. As long as you purchase a router that is compatible to go the speeds that you wish to obtain and your devices you Own are compatible you be fine. keep in mind non of this companies guarantee when you own your cable modem.

    Daniel B. – July 12, 2018

Died after a year of use. Which is really sad considering it was $180 when I bought it. I expected around 3 years out of it. I checked my event logs and it kept getting connect and signal errors. I called Comcast and they sent a guy out to replace all my splitters and outside lines. He confirmed that the signal was strong coming into my apartment. He also mentioned that he saw, on my account, that my ARRIS restarted about 100 times a day. It is just really disappointing… I would not recommend. Also, the signal drop of substantially between rooms, a surprising amount…

Always wondered how Amazon’s used products program worked, so I gave it a try with this product….. First, it arrived with no instructions. Next, I connected it to power and found that it had not even been reset to factory settings. Then I called my ISP to find it was still connected to another account. After that issue was resolved the ISP was unable to activate it. I have printed the return label and will, I am sure, be refunded the full amount. So, I now know how Amazon’s used products program works. It is designed to waste my time and apparently, that is its sole goal; mission accomplished Amazon!

Recommended by Xfinity to work with Xfinity and after more mucking around than was reasonable it never worked. The Xfinity tech tried to get it to work for an hour, I probably spend another 2. Does it work with Xfinity, maybe but if it does it sure isn’t easy to set up. I returned it and ordered a Netgear Nighthawk and was up and running in about 30 minutes right out of the box. How much is your time worth?

(No problems with seller, this review is about the product) The router has been great and giving us good speed. However, 6 months after bought it, the ethernet ports seemed to have died, all of a sudden. It is under warranty and we’re getting a replacement. But in order to keep our router (since we can stil use wifi and need it) until we get the new one we have to pay shipping to send the old one back and shipping for the new one. The free shipping option is to send the old one back and then wait for the new one to be sent once they receive the old one. AND they put a hold on your card for the entire amount until they receive it. Kind of lame.

Plugged the modem into the coax cable. When I went to log into 192.168.0.1, it was stuck on a page that said “Unit is updating, please wait for a moment.”I power cycled the modem, factory reset it, and even let it try to update overnight for 6+ hours, and it was still stuck on that page.I had to return this modem, then temporarily rent a modem from Xfinity while I get a modem that actually works. Very unsatisfied.

Hate this product. I have Comcast and this wasn’t compatible. Tried to unsuccessfully use it for just over a month and had to end up getting a Comcast modem after 4 different technician visits couldn’t resolve the problem. Too late to return it for a refund, which stinks. Save your money…I just wasted $100.

My husband bought this modem (well three of them so far) and doesn’t write Amazon reviews so here I am. This thing is a lightning magnet. We never had our modems fry in the past and this is the THIRD of this model THIS YEAR which has fried due to a nearby lightning strike — the most recent being yesterday. At least the Sonos system wasn’t shot this time. Can’t tell about the router yet. Ridiculous.

I run security front back and pool areas plus 5 phones ,3 TVs, 3 lap tops and a tablet. The speed and coversge is awesome compare to the older model.

Will update as I go but it was easy to set up with Spectrum. The internet I pay for isn’t even close to maxing out this device so so far so good. I wish it had one more output port so I could separate my wifi from lan lines but from my research that isn’t common until you go several levels up from this.

So lately I’ve been having crazy speed fluctuations. I was wondering what the F was going on (was it comcast?) some days I would test 100mbits down other days i would get 30. One day I got 15.. it just seemed all over the place. I thought maybe comcast was doing maintenance but if im paying for 250 I should at least get 150+ right. Anyways I was looking to make sure all my firmwares were up to date when I stumbled upon some reviews in here about the faulty chip. It all makes sense now. This modem has been messing everything up. DO NOT BUY

Avoid this modem like the plague, especially if you have internet speeds faster than 60 Mbps. It uses the Intel Puma 6 chipset, which has a well known flaw that causes it to crash, drop packets, and other bad things.

Bought in June 2016 and it failed in July 2018. It worked well, was top of the line when I bought it and was still technically current when it failed. But it should have lasted longer than 2 years, hence the 3-star rating.

I debated for a long while about whether or not this purchase was worthwhile. I have the 6141 model already and my Spectrum service allegedly is 100 Mbps, and I was getting speedtests of about 80 Mbps, so I wasn’t sure it was worth the $100. I was wrong.I caught a lightning deal on Prime day for the 6190 model for about $75. I tested my speed and it was 75 up/10 down. I hooked up the new modem and got it activated and immediately ran a new speedtest and much to my surprise, got speeds of 117 up/12 down. Initially, I thought it was maybe because everything had been kicked off the network so I wasn’t sharing any bandwidth. I turned on the TV, let my kids go back to Fortnight and basically went back to life as normal and checked the speed again. 117/12. In the last 24 hours (since I activated) I have yet to run a test that didn’t bring back 114+ up /10+ down. All me devices are just faster now AND I am a little more “futureproof” as I am no longer using a 5 year old model.

I wish I had researched this a little more when I dropped $100 on a faulty product. My old modem bit the dust, and it was time for an upgrade. I had used Arris modems, and I had generally been happy with them until now. That has changed with the 6190, which was supposed to be their top of the line, flagship modem at the time.I use my internet for streaming and a little bit of gaming. Since getting the 6190, I have been frustrated out of my mind by random disconnections that have left me blaming every other portion of my network for the failures. I though, “surely it can’t be my modem, since it’s brand new and it is giving no indication that there are connection issues.” During every instance of connection failure, the modem continues to say it’s connected and everything is fine. Finally, after getting fed up enough with this, I decided to do some real troubleshooting, and it led me to this modem being the only possible explanation. Thanks, Arris, for selling me a product you knew was faulty. Thanks for causing me months of frustration and blaming the older pieces of my networking equipment for my random disconnections when it was your fault all along. I couldn’t recommend the 6190 any less, and I honestly don’t know if I can recommend Arris anymore as a brand that can be trusted.

I want to start by saying I returned this product. However, it isn’t because I didn’t like it. It worked well for connecting to my cable provider (Charter Spectrum, verified support). However, if you are going to also be getting phone service through your provider be aware that you may have to use the cable company’s equipment. This cable modem doesn’t have the necessary connections to support both Internet and phone service.

Does not work with Optimum. Not even sure if it actually works. Arris support seems to think that the likelihood of their products being defective is nil but either way returning this. Had to deal with one very arrogant customer support technician but also spoke to two more helpful technicians. I did notice that not a single on of them would admit that their product might be defective. However doing research before i bought this, it was one of the models listed as top ten routers for optimum.

I bought this December 2016. Today, July 23 2018 it just died. Out of nowhere. 2 other things plugged into the same power adapter are just fine. We work from home so this is a big deal. It shouldn’t just die. It won’t turn on. I’m tech savvy I’ve tried everything. Would be willing to change my review if I could get a replacement.

After reading most posts on this website, I didn’t think I’d have the same connectivity issues others have had because this is now a two year old product. Boy was I wrong… My ISP is Xfinity/Comcast, and I seem to have run into the same issue as everyone else. It won’t register an IP address and that bottom LED flashes non-stop. Activated via Xfinity and I received an email stating everything was good to go. That was a lie. An hour and a half later on the phone with a service rep with Xfinity, they said return the device and try a new one. I still have to get in touch with Arris directly, but until then this is getting one star and I will return if they can’t help.Edit 1: Spoke with an ARRIS rep yesterday and they recommended an exchange. I’ll find out in two days if a new one works.

    re·nais·sance man – July 26, 2018

7-21-2018, bought a New SB6190 MODEM, and 2 pack (Best Buy, $349.00) eero Pro-Wifi, which contains 2 eero triband routers, no beacons. (These are normally packs of 3, and i do not see any 2 pack, 2nd gen pro eero systems listed in Amazon at this time, strangely can only find that configuration at Best Buy).Anyway, all of the tech geeks i know there have moved over to this eero system and state is it’s easier and better than the Orbi, Nighthawks, etc. I’m a techie guy as well, and was tired of the Netgear issues (netgear makes the Orbi), and wanted to upgrade my system to a “plug n play” network.I was on an older Motorola SB6121 8×4 channel Modem, connected to Comcast cable, and running a separate Netgear Dual channel N600 WNDR3400 wireless router, and also a Samsung Network Extender SCS-2U01WAR. With the older setup, and a ton of wires and always configuring, updating, managing and rebooting all 3 pieces 2-3 times a week, I was able to get 10-18mbps in the house. On the far side, maybe 5-8mbps, and hard-connected from the $1200.00 New Lenova Yoga 910 laptop, maybe 25-30mbps.It was laggy, spotty, frequently going in and out of service and frustrating for everyone in the home. Like most people, I was trying to make it last, and the equipment doesn’t seem that old, but probably 4-5yrs.The internet is now so rich with pop up ads etc, and 4k, or 1080 streaming video, that my old equipment couldn’t keep up. We upgraded our cell phones as well recently, Samsung S9+, Apple 7+, etc, and wonderful devices, but needed more bandwidth to realize their potential.I finally bit the bullet last week. And after I researched different systems and got my hands on them in the stores, I bought the eero pro 2 pack (2 eero eth routers in it), and an Arris Surfboard SB6190 Modem at Best Buy. $349.00, and $97.00. So $450 + tax. It wasn’t the cheapest solution, but when I factored my TIME in, and how much effort I have put in over the years keeping networks and modems updated with firmware, and running, I was willing to pay more for the best PRO solution i could find, that had coverage, AUTOMATIC updating, and was simplified.I first replaced the 8×4 channel router. It took comcast 30+ minutes to get it registered after i gave them the mac address. I then tested my system, so at this point I had a NEW 32×8 channel high speed modem, but connected to my old Netgear N600 router. My speed went from 10mbps wireless, to about 30mbps, and i could tell an immediate difference in my phones speed and the laptop when using youtube etc. The hard wired connection to the laptop jumped to 70mbps, and it was no longer lagging.I then put the first new eero router in and plugged it into the new SB6190 modem. WOW,,,,, this increased the speed significantly further, to 180+mbps, throughout the house (2 stories, 2700 sq’.) Closed doors and walls did not seem to make a difference. This was with only one….. of the eeros configured. Setup was done with an eero app downloaded from the android play store. Very simple, very fast setup, maybe 5-10 minutes from opening the box, to plugging it in, to it automatically updating its own firmware (nice…), and bammmmm, Triband Network is RUNNING….!Very simple app to use and monitor the network. My only issue at this point, was when i tried to add the second eero unit. The white light would come on, but it would never enter the flashing blue light “bluetooth” mode. I tried to reset it using the hard reset switch in the back, no go…. tried the hard reset on the other one, hold button 15-20 seconds wipes unit and you get a red led, works ok, but not on the other eero. Tried to administer the second one with serial number, and by hard connecting the ethernet ports as directed by eeros website, all did not work, and after 3hrs of frustration, I was ready to smash it with a sledge hammer. (Late sun night, and their tech support closed). My unit was bad from the factory, so I boxed the eero 2 pack up, and returned them to Best Buy Monday. Grabbed another set off the shelf, and wanted to give it another shot since the coverage from one alone was so good, and the setup so easy.Got home, and walla, no issues this time, both installed and setup in under 10 minutes, literally.I’ve been playing with it for 3days, 9 devices running wirelessly on it, androids, windows laptops, apple phone, macbook pro, android tablets, alexa, etc. All perfect. No more lags or drops. I can monitor all devices on my phone app and see how they are connected throughout the house. If you get far away, it will move over to 2.4ghz to punch through walls better, but for 95%, everything is running on 5ghz, and VERY FAST. 180mbps everywhere, wireless. I did not notice any increase in speed over this by hardwire connecting the laptop in, and this I believe, is because my speed from comcast is technically 150mbps on my plan.My old equipment is in a big pile of 4 pieces of related hardwire, and a ton of cables and power adapters. The NEW System is 2 small pieces in office, and the second eero located in the middle of the house on the main floor. Some devices have connected to the 2nd eero, some to the first, depends where you are sitting, all are fast, and no difference when reading with speedtest.net, etc.I walked outside to see how far it was broadcasting, (the specs say 40 feet), but they really broadcast the signal about 65 feet. So from my house to the other end of the neighbor’s house on both sides of me, then the signal is gone. Let’s say about a 150 foot bubble of wifi around my home, with the eero routers spread 25-30 feet apart in the home on the main floor.Huge, huge, huge improvement over the previous 10-18mbps wireless and spotty coverage, to rock solid 180mbps coverage in ALL areas!.Again, not inexpensive, $450 + tax total for both, (modem and eero pro), but if it holds, and the performance stays without me having to reboot, etc all of the time, it will be worth it. Time will tell, but from what I am seeing, I would recommend.Simple, and powerful. (Almost forgot, you CANNOT hide the network like my old router. I liked this as it is just another level of security, but this feature is NOT available in the eero product. According to their website, they feel it is unnecessary. I don’t feel they should force their opinion down anyone’s throat, and would like to choose that option by myself, it’s a free country,,,, ok eero…….). Limited option settings, like others have stated, but I am trying to simplify,,,,,, its just hard for us controlling tech engineers to let someone else have control, but if you want simplicity, it has to start somewhere, so I’m trying to go with it…Other than that, and the first unit being bad out of the box, oh, and one last thing, these units run very warm to the touch, not hot, hot, but certainly very warm, almost concerning and hope it will last, but don’t see any reported issues about it.Turning off the white led does not lower the heat. From what I have read, each unit has 6 antennas, tx/rcving over 3 bands with a fast processor, so i would expect some heat being generated. So far so good. Again, would recommend…

This modem was terrible. First there was no USER MANUAL just a quick start card. Second the modem would not activate. Third the Arris tech support number was a phony (sorry about the pun) all I got on that number was spam. Fourth the web site was difficult to navigate to get any real information other than marketing Fifth when I finally got a good tech support number the tech was of no help. Note that since it was connected my old modem didn’t work anymore so the only internet connection was my phone. most of the pages were not mobile enabled and were for desktop size screens most of the information was difficult to read. I finally upgraded to a Motorola MB8600. Although that part of Motorola is owned by Arris it seems to be a separate company that has it act together.

(July 27, 2018) My 2-yr old cable modem (TP-Link 7620) using Spectrum (old TWC account) had 227-230Mbps download, but service started going out so tried out this SB6190. Speeds immediately dropped to 166-170Mbps (tested 5x on speedtest.spectrum.com! Switched back to old modem (Spectrum said it was bad) and it went back up to 226Mbps! Speedtest it 8x. Helpdesk kept on blaming wireless, but MacBook Pro is 2′ away on 5Ghz.I’m going to try the high-end TP-Link 7650. I should have stayed with TP-Link.**IMPORTANT**- Ensure your ISP releases your MAC Address from this returned product so that someone else may use it if they want to ARRIS. Otherwise, it won’t register onto a new ISP because the MAC Address is registered elsewhere.

This was unable to be used. my ISP told me it was still registered to the previous owner, and could not be activated until the registration was cleared. I talked briefly with Amazon product support. They quickly transferred me to the manufacturer. They told me registration information IS NOT stored in the modem… in other words, there was nothing they could do either.

Yup, a one star review. I generally only bother to write positive reviews for things I like, but for this ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 cable modem, strong advice not to buy. While in the process of “wire cutting” I dropped my rental Cox modem in favor of this ARRIS SURFboard SB6190. While it isn’t a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, it is 3.0 and supports 32×8 channel bonding. Similar 3.1 modems are twice the cost, so I chose a bargain. The SB6190 is based on the Intel Puma chip, and “Intel Inside” is prominently displayed on the front of the modem. At first things seemed great, the modem bonded 32 down and 4 up channels, our network speeds went from 30mbps down and 2 up, to 80 down and 10 up – all while saving the modem rental fee. I figured the modem would pay for itself in 8 months from the savings. What could go wrong?Latency. Latency is what could go wrong. At least that’s what they refer to in the negative reviews for this device. Every now and then data traffic would just freeze for 2 or 3 seconds – I call these “blips” rather than latency. This isn’t such a big deal for web browsing, emailing, even streaming Netflix, but it’s killer for the kind of telework my wife and I do. For work, we both use VPN and remote access software, like Putty ssh and Microsoft RDP. These softwares require persistent connections, a 2 or 3 second network blip will break a connection. For ssh you have to relogin and you lose your work, for RDP it’ll reconnect in a few seconds and you keep working, but for VPN, if you lose that session, forget about it. And these blips were happening 2 or 3 times an hour.I was aware of the negative reviews for this modem, and the Intel Puma chip, before I purchased, but most of them were a year or more old, and I WANTED that 32/8 bonding. I assumed a firmware upgrade had surely fixed the problem with the Intel Puma chip by now. I wanted to believe. Now, after 3 months of ownership, I gave up. The constant drops had me fuming and my wife in absolute revolt. The SB6190 had to go.After more research, I replaced the SB6190 with the ARRIS SURFboard SB6183 Modem 16×4 Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem- Retail Packaging- White. The SB6183 is still a 3.0 modem, but only bonds 16 channels down and 4 up. It also costs about $20 less than the SB6190. Most importantly, the SB6183 is based on a Broadcom chip, and not the apparently defective Intel Puma chip. In use, the SB6183 did bond 16/4 as advertised, but my network speeds stayed exactly the same at 80/10mbps.Sadly for me, I allowed the return period to expire, and now I’m stuck with a bad SB6190 cable modem. You may see it for sale online, lightly used, for a very reasonable price.

I’ve had this modem for about 4 months, which should be plenty of time for a defect to show up, and it has worked flawlessly. You can tell by glancing at the lights on the front whether you’re getting the top performance from it or if there is something causing a slow-down of data. I would definitely buy it again.

Be careful to buy a used modem. I bought an SB6190 in Used Like New condition from Amazon, with the missing menu and product card in the box. It took more than an hour for Comcast tried to activate the modem, but failed finally. They tested the cable signal in a normal level, so they believe the used modem doesn’t work.

I’m a single female who was having marked internet issues and refuses to rent a modem from my provider.I consider our household a heavy internet-using household. I am a photographer who backs-up/uploads large photos to the cloud. I have a son who games, games a lot. We also have cut the cord, as in everything, streams. We have 4K TV’s and smart devices including Echos and Hue Lights. I have an elderly mother who lives with me and does hours worth of HD streaming per day. In short, Internet speed and consistency is important to our household. My son and I are also Mac users. We have two MacBook Pros, two iMacs and an assortment of iPads and iPhones. It was important to me that my new modem was A.) Easy to figure out. B.) Reliable. C. ) Could handle speeds up to 1 gbps, as we are considering that upgrade. D.) Was Apple/Mac-Friendly.I have owned this modem for a solid three months now. All it took was a call to Mediacom and reading numbers off the bottom of the modem to get it set up. Easy breezy. It seems to work well with my several-year-old Airport Router (An Apple Brand). In fact, this new modem checked every requirement I had with flying colors. I immediately noticed a speed hike. Our speed tests prior to this new modem were routinely 10-30mbps, measured at different times and places within the house. Immediately after plugging everything in it we shot up between 160-300 mbps depending on what we were doing, how much internet we were using, and where we were in the house. We love the modem. Today we only have one Internet issue, but we have narrowed that down to an LG Smart TV we purchased at Christmas time. It seems the modem in the TV is flaky as it continually buffers and stops, but if you hook up a different streaming source to the tv such as an APPLE TV to watch HULU or DirecTV… no problem. So, no fault of this modem or our Apple router.I would highly suggest buying this especially if you are in one of those $10/month contracts. You will have it paid off in just a few months. When you outgrow it just sell it! This router is genuinely trustworthy and easy to operate. If you found my review helpful please click/tap the yes icon. Thanks so much for stopping by!

I bought this to replace an older, slower Netgear unit on our Xfinity/Comcast internet (I’ll NEVER give them $10 and month for any device rental/lease). I mostly upgraded because Comcast kept sending me messages and snail mail that I’m not getting my max speeds. It’s fast, I’ve only had to reboot a few times in the months I’ve owned it, and the only two complaints I can really thing of are:1) The LEDs (esp. blue) are BLINDING bright. My entertainment unit glows at night.2) It does seem to take 3-4 times longer to establish a solid connection to the Comcast streams compared to my older unit. I’m not sure if that’s because it has to lock in more streams than before, or if it’s really just slower about doing it. Either way, it makes me only reboot when I have time for a beer.

Just got through packaging up my 2nd Arris SBG7580AC modem for the second return. I had bought my first from Amazon after upgrading my internet speed. This modem/WiFi router was top of Spectrum’s recommendation list so I thought it was the best.Hookup was easy enough and initial speed tests were great. Within a few days, I noticed that my wireless devices were dropping connection. All of them were having the problems. I installed a connection test on my wired desktop. Packets were being dropped like crazy. Back to back speed tests went from awesome (400+Mbps) to “Cannot connect”. It didn’t matter how close / far my devices were. Even the wired connection was having problems.I called Spectrum and they diagnosed modem error. I called Arris support (which took forever) and they blamed Spectrum. Arris finally suggested that I return that modem for a new one. I did this and got a new modem (same model) from Amazon.I had saved my router configuration 3 times in hopes of not having to go through all of the setup process. After hooking up the replacement, I found that none of the saved configuration files worked to import the saved settings. Out of an apparent sense of self punishment, I set a couple of configuration setting on the new modem/router and saved that file. On resetting, that configuration file did not work either. It seems like the unit would only save factory default settings.Despite having to manually set it up again, the new modem worked great for almost a week. Then the same connection issues began. I called for support and jumped back into the blame game. Arris assured me that this was an ISP issue. Spectrum told me that Arris was a good name brand but they assured me it was a bad modem. Spectrum gave me a modem and separate WiFi router to compare. Oddly enough, the modem was an Arris. I’ve been running the new setup for 2 weeks now with no issues and super fast speeds. It’s difficult for me to accept that I happened to get the two bad units out of all of the good ones. Judging on the reviews here, most people love this unit, others have had same issues.**On both units, the firmware had been up to date. Accessing pages within the unit’s internal settings seemed to take an unusually long time “Page loading. Please wait.” message was one that I grew to hate. Even Arris support agreed that those pages seemed delayed.

I have been using this modem and being frustrated by my cable provider that I still had latency and packet loss only to find out something rather terrible. My cable providers technician informed me that the Puma 6 chipset in this modem has some problems for anyone needing consistent real time traffic (e.g. gaming, streaming, rtp). This problem is severe enough to have prompted a class action lawsuit started in California. You can find more information about this problem by searching for “Arris Sued Over SB6190 Surfboard Modem Latency Flaw” (article on dlsreports has links to join class action and a copy of the complaint). Arris has not fixed this issue but has abandoned the intel chipset responsible for the problem.Summary of the issue:Assuming “normal” latency for you is say 10-20 ms there is some sort of process going on with this on chip software that causes both latency, jitter, and at times packet loss. I experienced 100-300 ms increase in latency and packet loss of about 4% over 24 hours using a constant data stream.

It was easy to install and activate (Comcast). But interestingly as per the front panel LED status my modem is “receiving” using the DOCSIS 3.1 technology but sending using the backwards compatible DOCSIS 3.0 technology. I don’t believe that’s the fault of the modem. I believe that it’s the ISP that’s causing this problem so I’ll have to call them to find out why. And other than that there have been no glitches or dropped wifi. Also it comes with a quick start guide with a web address so you can register the product. After registering mine it said the warrantee was good until November of 2020. The booklet also provides a phone number should you require technical support. Overall I upgraded to this modem because for the last couple of years I was using an Arris SB 6141 which was extremely reliable and had experienced no problems with it. Will not run on 5.0 GHz on play store apps, face book and other sites meaning you have to us the 2.4 GHz band which cuts your providers speed in half i.e.100 mb to 50 mb download speed. Also comes with McAFFE which tracks your internet browsing without telling you. You can not turn off McAFFE with the control panel and have to call Arris to disable which customer service is lacking. I complained to Arris and they said it was the modem router. I had to pay $10.00 replacement charge and return shipping $20.00+. received new modem router with same problem. GO ELSEWHERE!
