Got tired of paying $10 a month for a cable modem so I bought the same one my cable company uses. Seems to be working great.

This plus a ubiquity edge router, and a ubiquity APn is a huge improvement over rental cable modems.
WKEJGZ –
Purchased for use with Suddenlink in Central TX. Suddenlink state only that modem needed to be Docsis 3.0 and failed to mention it also needed to be 24 channel. I returned this one and bought the 24 channel version and its working great.
Subfam2 –
So far so good. My service speeds are great.
jerome –
works all around great! does its job better than i expected.

Why rent when you can own? These have been installed in every one of our stores and it works just like the modems we were renting from the cable company with out the monthly fee.Based on the fees we were being charged these units will pay for themselves in less than a year.
Sedona Resident –
I purchased this cable modem to replace a unit from Suddenlink. Install was quick and easy. Simple management screens for setup or advance configuration though I did not like the limited settings for closing ports and protocols. But it should be good for most home uses. I did notice that the wireless 5 GHz band was not as strong as prior modems I’ve owned. I switched the devices farthest away from the unit to 2.4 GHz band and strength was near 100% from anywhere in the house.
Michael Lester –
Delivered quickly. Installed and working as expected.
Sharin R. –
Very happy with router although it does get a bit hotter than I am use to. Works well with my new Arris.
Jay Haumersen –
For the ISP speeds I’m interested in now and for the next several years (under 500Mb/s), this modem is perfect. Pretty much plug and play install. My ISP is Mediacom, and there is no issues connecting.
SkyBlue –
Setup yesterday on Xfinity – was surprised how easy.
Tony Reynolds –
Easily deployed. No issues up front. Very happy with speed and setup.

This is a workhorse for XFINITY Internet. Fast throughput regardless of congestion in the area, and the support folks treat it as one of their own….

Decided to buy instead of renting a modem/router from my internet company. Will be saving a ton of money. The modem works great without any problems.
Shawn Hayes –
I bought this to replace a leased cable modem from my ISP. As I already have my own wireless router, this works perfectly for my needs, and saves me me from having to pay a stupid rental fee on their modem. It was also over $100 cheaper than the overpriced garbage they wanted to sell me. Win-win! I’ve never had any issues with it dropping a signal or anything like that either.
Kim Jeonghoon –
You can save money by replacing this with rented one from Optimum.
BC –
Not recommended. This modem lasted just 8 months before it conked out on me. As other reviews have noted, the device runs hot. I’m not sure if this was related to its short lifespan, but it was disconcerting.

Easy to set up. Worth the price.
John Miller –
I saved a lot of money NOT renting a modem from Spectrum.
Kyle Tan –
Work as expected
S. Harden –
Incredibly easy to set up and it registered itself with Comcast. Working great so far!
A. ANGURAJ –
You will pay off the money you invested in modem in 6 months!!! We decided to buy instead of renting it from service provider. The modem works great!
TC –
price was acceptable. so far, no issues. like most others, got to replace the $8 monthly rental. currently using 16×3 channels on atlanticbb/metrocast for about 80×6 mb/s.
Blgar –
These things last for about 1-2.5 years before dying. Expect to replace regularly.
Keenon Goosen –
Works perfectly with our xfinity internet. Just hook it up and plug it in, it automatically configured itself.
Roberta McLean Davis –
It works great and saves us $10/month on rental fees thru our carrier.
Olena & Ilya –
Easy to setup + great value for money.
Deborah –
Easy to install and pays for itself by not paying modem rental fee to cable company.
John M Roberson –
Ifyou want to cut the leash from renting an Xfinity modem, this is a great option .It was incredibly quick and easy to set it up as a single Ethernet connection. There was a bit of a challenge setting up my Airport Extreme wifi router but after about an hour or rebooting and reconfiguring my router, it was up and running.I’ve been using it for roughly a week so time will tell if the equipment holds up well.So far so good. The modem will pay for itself in about 7 months versus renting the Xfinity modem.
Daniel M. –
I figured all modems were wifi nowadays, so I didn’t notice this wasn’t wifi. I didn’t need to use it until after the return window was closed by a couple of weeks, so I can’t return it.
angel pagan –
Easy to set up.

I’m a Comcast subscriber and have been for about a year. I had been renting my router/modem combo all that time ($10 a month). While it was pretty good service, out didn’t even approach the 400 Mbps speed that was advertised. I had enough! I’d read plenty about the Arris Surfboard and, after doing my research, decided to get one. Holy cow… What a difference! I just got it and already I can see how much faster this is! From the elimination of buffering while streaming, to my lightning fast downloads, to the instant opening of web pages… I’m so happy I took the chance and bought the Arris Surfboard… Comcast can keep their equipment!

ROUTER IS WORKING WELL. REPLACED WITH 10 A MONTH CHARGE FROM MY NY INTERNET CARRIER. THANKS AMAZON

I received this 3 days ago. I’m an Optimum Online subscriber in New York State and wanted to replace the company’s rental modem with my own. I simply unplugged the existing router (Arris TM 822), plugged this one in and within a few minutes all the lights were lit up. Optimum does not allow you to self activate, so I called tech support (looooonng wait!) and they updated the modem quickly. All they asked for is the MAC address. The modem does run a bit hot and the lights on the front, as others have said, are very bright. I taped a piece of “smoke-colored plastic” (actually what I did was cut a piece off the bag that’s used to store my EZpass). It subdued the lights to a more acceptable level. You have the option of turning all but the power light off, but then you wouldn’t see what the modem is doing if it’s having problems. Taping something over the lights is quick and painless! Also, my modem Download speeds doubled!!Great modem, so far!
Maarten Hofman –
Amazing modem. The harsh blue lights can be turned off in software and made a nice peaceful green. Allows quite fast connections (I’m at 75 Mb/s, but this is undoubtedly not capped by the modem, but by my provider). It’s very small, and consumes much less power than the equipment that most other people provide with their internet. I know some people say to get 3.1 instead of 3.0, but I don’t think I could be happier.

Awesome cable modem that eliminates the monthly rental charges that cable companies live for. Capable of a download speeds up to 686MB. Has plenty of status lights on front to tell you what is happening at the moment. Can log into the unit to determine packet loss, errors and channel status. This is a simple modem that does its job well. If you are paying Comcast, WOW!, Xfinity, or another company a monthly fee then this is the unit for you. Simple to setup. Just screw the coax into the coax connector, plug in the LAN cable for your router, and plug in the power cord. Then call your cable company and tell them you bought your own modem. They will ask you for the MAC id number on the bottom of the modem and then they will authorize it to work with their network. That’s it and you are up and running.PROS:- Nice price- Super easy to setup- Saves you on monthly rental fees from your cable company- Can support download speeds up to 686MB- DOCSIS 3.0 for 16 Channels Down / 4 Channels UpCONS:- None

Stopped working after less than three months. Lights on, but nobody is home. No access to settings, unit is dead.

Works awesome and saves a monthly fee from your ISP

This is so superior to my previous modem, faster and sustains without dropping connection.

I was not familiar with the brand name but I relied on the reviews and couldn’t be more pleased.

This is for the Arris SURFboard SB6183 16×4 Docsis 3.0 cable modem (white). I had the technician from Optimum come to install the internet service (Optimum 200 in this case) and he was not able to get my Arris SB6183 modem to connect. The technician got their rented modem (Arris TM1602A) to work and told me to call in later to check if my Arris SB6183 can be registered to work with their service. I called in and had the representative helped me with a walk-through in registering the modem, and the Arris SB6183 works with Optimum! Please note that it does not indicate on the box that it will work with Optimum, and also Optimum will not say on their website if this modem is compatible with them. You have to call in or do the online registration of the SB6183 modem yourself. I just wanted to say that it certainly works with the Optimum 200 plan that I am getting for $39.99/month. Very good modem and gives great results.

easy set up, used the instructions provided. no disconnection issues and zero lag. I use this with COX and have found no problems.

This modem was purchased as a package with Arris router. The modem was easy to set up. Had to contact the cable company so that they could register the modem to my account. I have had no issues with dropped connections or limited speeds – but I am only subscribing to a 10 Mbs service.
fromacastleinthesky –
Works as expected, very pleased.
R. Zuniga –
Fairly easy setup with Comcast Xfinity. Been working very well for a couple of months now. Web page to access the modem is fairly easy to use and required no special settings. Pretty much plugged it in, alerted Comcast via their website and we were up and running with no issues.
bondo –
blazing fast and excellent WIFI performance. This was a bear to get setup otherwise would have given it 5 stars. The correct MAC address was not clearly defined and I gave the wrong MAC to the cable provider which required a service tech to come out and with his up-line support to fix the issue. As a consumer, I couldn’t reach this level of support. The level of support available to me could not get this resolved. Otherwise a great product. New firmware has IOS or Android parental controls available for use with this gateway.

It is a well-known fact that this cable-modem does not play well with Apple wireless products. I didn’t know this until I bought it and tried setting it up last week. I have used my A1470 router with both Armstrong and Verizon-provided modems with no issues at all – plug and play. I recently moved and had to switch to Communist Cast against my will so I decided to buy my own modem – the Arris SB6183 since it had such good reviews. I did as I have always done when getting a new modem – power down the Apple router, leave everything off for a few minutes, plug in the modem, wait for full connect, plug in the ethernet cable, and fire up the Apple. No go. So I found a discussion on the Apple forum with this exact modem and found a few workarounds that have worked for some people. I followed each one religiously and had no good outcomes. As a hardwired device, it is acceptable – you plug it in and it works. But as the back-end to an Apple wireless setup, it is very much unacceptable.I am returning it and hoping to find a good product that will work – I’m open to suggestions!

I bought this to replace my Optimum provided cable modem, but immediately after I installed it, I started having issues with Hulu, Netflix and all video streams. I had problems everywhere. On the FireTV, AppleTV, everywhere. It turns out this modem is a little outdated and doesn’t work with Eero and you can’t update its firmware so they recommend buying another modem.Eero support says this:If you have an Arris SB6183 modem and are experiencing the following issues with your eero WiFi system, you may be experiencing a bug:Large file downloads stall or failConnection drops while streaming music and video wirelesslyPlease note that a large number of customers use eero with SB6183 modems and do not experience these problems. A small subset of customers, however, have a firmware version called “SB6183-9.2.0.0-GA-03-29-NOSH” installed on their modems. If you’re experiencing issues with your eeros, it’s likely that you have this version of firmware.
