Brittany Cushine –
Absolutely fantastic. No problems what so ever. Easy to set up too. That means a lot coming from a technologically handicapped person. I can’t stand a remote with more than 5 buttons…lol
Customer –
work’s good
Charlie Golf –
Exact same equipment we would be paying $10-20 per MONTH (in perpetuity) thru various ISPs. Purchasing outright pays for itself in less than a year.
LB –
Reduce your monthly Xfinity bill by buying this instead of rentling their modem. Works great.
Verdi –
How hard it was to activate with Xfinity Comcast. Three days before I got some one to talk with instead the dam answering machine.
bendegen –
This product stopped working after less than ten months. Arris technical support was awful and not helpful. I hoped this was an isolated incident and purchased a second modem, as I do not want to lease one from Comcast/xfinity. The second one lasted about ten months. Arris technical support is awful!!!!!! Arris would only help if the modem was registered to Comcast, and online. My problem is that modem never stays connected to Comcast, if it connects at all. My phone is through Comcast as well, so I have no other way to contact Arris technical support. Arris’ response – “Then there is nothing we can do for you”I purchased the second modem in September 2017. It worked fine for a few months, then would randomly restart. I contacted technical support when unplugging and replugging didn’t work anymore. I was told that I could only be helped when the modem was registered and connected to Comcast – which if I do, the modem won’t sync with Comcast and I will have no internet connection or phone line to call Arris! I tried explaining this to Genesis M (your account rep), but s/he was not helpful. I suggested using another computer to connect to the modem to troubleshoot and review settings – that was denied. I also asked if I could send it to Arris for diagnosis – that too was denied. This is the second Arris cable modem I’ve purchased in the past three years and has stopped working. I will NEVER purchase another Arris product again. Their product and support are terrible!
David M Jones Jr –
Wonderful product. Perfect, fair price. Thank you.
jmy6176 –
Exact modem that comcast uses but white instead of black. Only difference is you can’t use other boxes in the same house wirelessly with this modem. Otherwise it’s the same.
heather nazar –
Same one we rented but now we can stop paying to rent

The setup was pretty straightforward, had to register it with Comcast, which took them 2 tries, while I was running the setup and everything worked with the exception of the MoCa networking ability, which I used with Tivo. I found this from Arris: SO far so good, only using for a few hours but I still was astonished how quickly things went, it even copied my network info from the old box!)QuestionDoes the SVG2482AC Gateway Support MoCA?AnswerNo, the MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) feature in the SVG2842AC is completely disabled. It is also not compatible with Xfinitiy MoCA networks. (Seems like Xfinity would have this in the Frequently asked questions so you don’t spend hours trying to figure it out)Tivo boxes can be used as MoCa Bridges so I set it up with the Roamio and all is well.

At first Xfinity did not recognize the unit. Very long time to get it activated. Don’t use the default wifi ID and passphrase. It will not work. Change it to your own. It has something to do with the firmware being glitchy. The wifi range is not that great. Overall it’s a fair router to eliminate the Comcast router rental fee at $11.
Robert Stone –
Pro: Download speed tested up to 450 Mbps.Con: Pricy but worth it.
BLOWFLY –
Poor instructions on how to set it up , after 3 hours on the phone with ARRIS tech support and Comcast tech support ( each blaming the other in barely understandable English for set up troubles ) I gave up and returned it to Amazon .
Mike G. –
Works great with Comcast internet and voice, was able to complete the upgrade from my old cable modem using the Comcast web site with no phone calls to Comcast. I’m using it just in bridge mode (route and WiFi disabled), since I already have a Google WiFi router and mesh network.
Mr. Tester –
Buyer Beware – The Modem I received, I was not able to connect because the CMAC address of the modem is still register to another ComCast customer and it can not be activated. Bottom Line – this Modem was returned to Amazon – but the CMAC address was not deactivated for the new customer to use when it was resold in Amazon. This is Unsat.
Daniel Venutolo –
Works with Comcast internet and phone.
Ferro Mordak –
Save the rental money. Pays for itself in 2 years
Buck Buick –
After Comcast came out (charged me $60 to hook it up), it has been working flawlessly. Note – you will not be able to get this working yourself. I attempted to do it via the normal channels, i.e., their Philippine tech staff. They could not activate it, and said I had to schedule an on-site tech person to activate it. The tech guy had to “call upstairs” to get special authorization to activate it. Even he was rather amazed at the hoops he had to go through in order to activate this. So, add the $60 bucks into your final cost estimates.
Nancy –
I purchased this because it was Comcast approved for use with their internet service. I connected it when it arrived, called Comcast to activate it, and within a few minutes my internet was up and running smoothly; have had no problems to date! Pleased with the choice and would buy again, but hopefully it will last a long time and I won’t need to. 🙂
eric –
i got this used ,trying to save money ,but it is registered in someone else name at comcast so i still have the monthly payments i was trying to get away from,
Bob S –
I’m strongly thinking about returning this for another brand. I purchased it to replace an older Netgear router. It seems to work okay, but after using Netgear products for many years, I find the Arris to be poorly designed and with a user interface that is poorly thought out and not user-friendly, If you ever need to reboot the device, be prepared for a LONG wait. “Slow” doesn’t adequately describe it. If a reboot happens, bring a book or learn to play the piano. By the time it is back up and running, you should either be finished with “War and Piece” or able to play like Chopin.Oh, and kudos to the Arris design team that decided the front panel status lights must shine with the intensity of a thousand suns! Woo Hoo! I can now see my router status from miles away! (Heck, the astronauts on the ISS can probably see it, too.) They obviously never dreamed that a user’s network hub might be located near a sleeping area. Dimmable lights? Nope. I tried covering the front with black masking tape. This helped a bit, but the LEDs still illuminate the inside of the case, which is covered with vent holes, so… yeah. I’m certainly not a light sleeper (no pun), but really, Arris, think it through, next time! (Sigh.)

This item was registered to a past Xfinity customer. I was not able to install it without going to comcast and proving proof of purchase. The company who referbished this item did not realize customers may have set it up withComcast, returned it, and it was not removed from the account. Like buying a locked or stolen phone. Annoying
Chris –
Just got it hooked up. Had to call Xfinity tech support to get it going but they were very helpful and the process didn’t take long. I recently upgraded to a faster speed and had to upgrade the modem too and Xfinity offered to swap me one but I decided to go ahead and buy it and save the $11 a month they charge to rent one. Pays for itself after about a year and a half. Everything so far so good however beware for it to take more time to get it activated if you also have the Xfinity Home Security service. They originally said a tech would have to come to my house to pair the modem with the Home touchscreen for the WiFi to work but I could still get online with the ethernet cable, which is included with the modem. Then after about 30 minutes I noticed I was getting WiFi on my phone again and then my laptop also. Xfinity called back and said they were able to get them paired on their end and didn’t have to send out a tech after all. Overall very pleased with it and I lucked out and got the lightning deal on it so got it for a very good price.
Jeffrey H. Davis –
Got this for Comcast package – internet cable and voice…works very nice…no hiccups.
Mister Bee –
Does the job
elikosh –
Installed smoothly and works at the first try, without a need to call any company. Phone support worked as well.
MelissaD –
Comcast came out today and this is not compatible with the 3.1 system available with voice assist. Our install technician was on the phone with several people and spoke to multiple technicians. If you are looking for the fastest internet available this is not going to work. Now we are renting a box.

This is a good product and the price isn’t bad if you really need both an Xfinity cable modem and a high capacity router. This is one of only two models that Xfinity recommends for 400 Mbps internet connections that work with Xfinity’s VOIP landline telephone service. These are the fastest cable modems that work with Xfinity’s VOIP system. And this was the less expensive option (although looking back it might have been worth spending more to get the other choice (a Netgear model) just because of the color. This is the only white device on my computer desk and it really sticks out (LOL).According to at least one of the tech support people I talked to, a lot of people don’t actually upgrade to a VOIP compatible modem. If they have a working VOIP modem they can keep using it for phone service, while transferring their internet connection to a faster, Non-VOIP cable modem. I didn’t test this, but if it’s true it means that you can get a Gbps capable DOCSIS 3.1 modem / router and instead of this unit. I don’t think I could have saved much money by doing this, but you might be able to. Clearly there are a lot more cable modems to choose from if you don’t need them to be Xfinity VOIP capable, so I would recommend you consider this before you buy.But if you do buy this unit with the intention of using it for VOIP with Xfinity, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT CALL XFINITY TECH SUPPORT TO HELP WITH THE INITIAL SETUP OF THIS DEVICE!It comes with an excellent set of Quick Start instructions that can prevent you from doing what I did, which is spend over an hour frustrating Comcast Agents and Tech support people on the phone trying to get it all set up in one step. It just isn’t set up to do that.As per the Quick Start Guide, you start the setup by connecting your coaxial cable and either an Ethernet (preferred) or wireless connection to the modem from a PC, Mac, Laptop, or similar device with web access. When you boot up the modem it automatically configures itself to go online and prepare itself for activation by Comcast. Crucially this step takes 5-10 minutes and has to be completed BEFORE you can register it for your account. Trying to start with the registration on the phone resulted in a bunch of frustration as the constant reboots ordered by Comcast messed up the software that the modem was trying to run to set itself up. Then, as per the Quick Start Guide, you can go online and use the http://www.xfinity.com/activate web site to both register the modem to your account, and set up the SSID you and password you want to use, ideally the one you already used before the upgrade. This automatically sets up the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands to work off the same login and to switch automatically. Only after doing this do you want to mess with the VOIP settings, which has to be done by phone. The Quick Start Instructions give you a special number (1-855-652-3446) that apparently connects you to the tiny subset of Comcast techies that know how to transfer your VOIP service to this modem.I ignored these instructions and tried to let Comcast handle the installation over the phone. The result was over an our spent with various techs trying to intervene in the process before the modem was ready for the next step. I wasted everybody’s time and effort. In the end, the modem itself had to take over and fix the installation after the tech guys had succeeded in setting up the VOIP and making it impossible for me to connect to the internet. Basically the modem had to go through it’s initial setup protocol again AFTER it had been connected to my account and VOIP service. And when I finally got back online, the modem itself brought up an Arris webpage where I was prompted to complete the WiFi setup by designating a custom SSID and Password, which I SHOULD have done during the registration process had I followed the instruction. In the final analysis it’s pretty impressive that no matter how much you try to interfere with the setup process, Arris has this set up so that you will succeed under the power of it’s own software. My advice, however, is to trust the Quick Start Guide and follow the steps they suggest. Start with the automatic modem setup using a connected device, then do the Xfinity activation online, and then call the special number for the VOIP setup.Or, if you already have an Xfinity VOIP modem, you can apparently let that handle the VOIP and use this for the Ethernet and WiFi connections. I didn’t test this, but it is what I heard from Tech Support. All in all this is a very solid piece of equipment and its good to know that it will complete the install even if you do your best to mess it up. I am getting all of the performance that is advertised now that everything is connected correctly. The only reason I hesitated to give this product 5 stars is that
arun zarabi –
Purchased this to replace the COMCAST/XFINITY Gateway that I was renting at $11 a month. The Software, Set UP, User Guide on this one is very improved compared to the TG862 – older generation Gateway that I just replaced. The AC1750 WIFI signal travels well in our 2-story house compared to the older Gateway. I just wish they were a little cheaper – I think ARRIS is milking the COMCAST/XFINITY certification that they have for this Product and overcharging customers – but we have no choice.. It is either this or the XFINITY one.
Misty Sands –
Overall a good modem. However, if you want the ability to set DNS to use something like OpenDNS, then pass on this modem. The software does not allow it.
aks214 –
This says it works with Xfinity Gigabit service. It does not. Save yourself 20+ hours of your life and go with a Docsis 3.1 machine. Epic Fail
BlackWaterpark –
May be a got a faulty piece but this thing doesn’t work. The connection is extremely choppy and drops connection. Checked with Comcast and they diagnosed as faulty unit. That is not even a couple of months old. I guess money down the drain….
Customer –
Working perfectly with Xfinity
HMan –
This is the same modem that Xfinity/Comcast uses. It took some time to get the phone and internet to work. The new unit works faster than the one from Xfinity and will currently save you $11 per month, so this will be paid for in less than 2 yrs. I don’t see an upgrade from DOCIS 3.0 any time soon. My TV menu also runs faster. I found that some equipment runs faster on the 2.4 Ghz and some on the 5 Ghz! Before my purchase I confirmed with Xfinity that this was a supported modem!
MJR –
Excellent replacement for leased router and better quality. Haven’t had any issues or dropped internet.
Customer –
Works great. Glad to get rid of the monthly rental fee.
Bill –
This is exactly what I needed to eliminate another expense from my cable and Internet package. Works well!
Bob Gormas –
I purchased this router because the Netgear that I had purchased was breaking up on the incoming phone side. The Arris is performing perfectly.I have a large one story house and the signal works great all thru my home. And no more crackling on the phone. If you need a Comcast (Xfinity) compatible router this is the one.
Chintan Rami –
brand new as listed. arrived in time as stated. would buy again.
Kayvon Sadeghi –
works great and replaces my Xfinity modem. I am supposed to get monthly rental money back from Comcast. Now, if I can only get comcast to not revert my account back to charging for the device, I will be all set. 🙁
James –
Works good
Lewis F –
Will avoid comcast rental fees with this
Customer –
Very good
Bill –
Modem does not hold a signal. Drops internet connection every 10 minutes while the modem resets itself. Do not buy this modem – you will be greatly dissappointed
Pam E. –
Set up was easy and improved my system greatly. Compatible with Xfinity as promised.
Gordon C. –
This unit works well with the Comcast cable system; it has the VOIP connection so you get cable tv, wi-fi modem and wireless router plus phone service. Speed of the internet is excellent but we do get some slow service when the neighborhood gets home from work and start using their computers. I would recommend this product.
Vincent J Procopio –
Excellent product!
K McKnight –
Our internet & WiFi are slower than ever with this router. We have never had issues with our service until installing this router. Do your research & don’t get stuck with lag time & slow data!
Ken Okin –
Have several of them so I don’t pay Comcast the monthly modem rental. They’re easy to install and work well.
Cephus E. Simmons Sr. –
The product worked for one week and I was not able to connect to the Comcast network. I called Comcast and they could not see the modem on the network. I returned the product and purchased a Netgear Nighthawk.
