Arris TM722G Manual & Product Guides
How to Activate Arris TM722G
Activating your Arris TM722G is the first step you need to take after unboxing your new modem. It’s a fairly simple process, and we recommend setting aside about an hour of your time to ensure you’re able to complete the whole activation.
- Plug in your new modem the same as the one it’s replacing. Make sure power cable is plugged in and coaxial cable is screwed in on the back as well. It’s recommended to do this and then wait an hour before calling your provider, if possible, so that your modem can download whatever firmware is needed for the activation.
- Next, call your provider and let them know that you’re doing an activation with a self-install of your new modem. They’ll ask you for a few of the numbers on the bottom of the unit and then proceed to get your modem added to your account and service plan.
- The call will end after the representative verifies with you that you have an internet connection. You can test this for yourself simply by visiting a few websites.
Your modem is now activated!
How to Reset Arris TM722G
Resetting your Arris TM722G is one of the easiest ways to correct almost all common technical issues that you may experience over the life of your modem. It’s a super handy tool to have in your troubleshooting repertoire and can save you hours on the phone with your provider. Here’s how it’s done:
- Plug your modem in to the power supply and wait 2 minutes for it to boot up fully. You’ll know it’s booted fully when the wireless lights come on.
- Locate the reset button on the back of the modem. It’ll be on the same side where all the ports are located. Generally reset buttons on this kind of device will just be a tiny hole that may or may not be labeled.
- You’ll need a flattened paperclip or pen cartridge to do this next part. Press down and hold the reset button for 30 seconds with your modem still plugged in. You should feel a small dull click when you press in the reset button with your paperclip.
- Now wait a few minutes for your modem to reset and reboot itself. You’ll know it’s finished and ready to use when the WiFi lights come back on.
Tip: Still not resetting? Try just holding down for 15 or 20 seconds instead of the full 30. Some firmware versions differ on the number of seconds needed for a reset.
How to Find Your IP Address
This method works on Windows computers and does not require any software to be downloaded. You’ll be using command prompt to find the internal IP address so you can log into your WiFi router or modem router’s settings panel.
- Click the start menu in the bottom left of your screen.
- In the search bar in your start menu, type in “cmd.exe” and then click on that program when it appears in the search.
- When the program opens, you’ll see a black window on your screen with white text.
- Type into the program “ipconfig“, then hit Enter. Your window should look like the one shown below. The IP address circled below shows where your internal IP address will be on your command prompt window. Now you can move on to accessing your modem or modem router’s settings admin panel.

Angelina D. Slee –
It works fine, but since it was used I had to make two long trips to theComcast store so they could remove the name of the previous owner. Don’t know how long the battery will last. It was a big hazzle. Lesson for me don’t buy used things.
Lady Pinky –
We simply love this cable modem because we saved a lot of money. We switched to comcast and did not want to buy there modem. This works for us. We have no problem with it.
The Long Ranger –
OK, here are my observations about this modem. It has 4 downstream and 3 upstream channels. I have reached a maximum rate of about 125 Mbps.It is not as fast as the newer TM822G but if your service is up to about 100Mbps it is perfectly adequate. If you can find a good used one for cheap, it will pay for itself very quickly. It does work on the Comcast network. I did have to make a phone call to their customer service in order to activate the internet and phone service, and then a trip to the local office to return their equipment (make sure to get a receipt and verify on your next bill that the monthly charge has been removed).
Trevor –
Modem worked great with Comcast, but THREE different reps told me I was not going to be able to activate this modem with their service. Not until I called back the FOURTH time that FINALLY somebody knew how to add a stupid modem onto a stupid account. Comcast sucks, but this modem works great. 🙂
OSWW –
Works fine. Too bad it only has one Ethernet cable port; adding an additional wired connection required purchase of separate cable router. Comcast gave me insufficient info for more informed purchase. However, I am generally satisfied.
J. Scott Pugmire –
works with comcast
Fred K –
Purchased this for Comcast Internet/VOIP combo service. Easiest way to register the this modem is to go to Comcast chat. It’s much easier than calling them as the whole chat log is recorded online, so Comcast wont give you that hard of a time.Cons: Price is very high on these, but beats renting from Comcast.
R. Lombardo –
Had this exact same modem that Comcast started charging $10 per month. I ordered this unit, and upon receiving it, I installed it using the instructions that were inside the package. Called Comcast to register the unit, and it has worked the same as the one that I had from Comcast.
Rodney L. Trytko –
Does not work with Comcast. That is a lie.
Hugo Marrero –
Works like a charm!! Great value for the money!
robert j. grall –
Great
shop novice –
pugged it in and it was up and running in a few minutes
Stephen O. –
Massive headache to get it working with Comcast and thanks to deceptive description and lack of features from amazon I may be left high and dry soon. Not that Comcast’s mydeviceinfo page makes it easy to see but this modem is technically now “End of Life” on their networks, which means it “might” lose connection entirely soon. Now the newer TM822G model is fully supported and is actually cheaper on Amazon right now but because Amazon doesn’t tell you when an updated model is available (unlike certain other better tech sites that have something to do with eggs). Out of 30 day return window so hopefully this works long enough to make the savings off the cable bill worth it.
dominque –
Didnt work…
Robert Hanson –
works great, comes with installation instructions for comcast internet. No more monthly rental rip off from comcast.
Maturesol –
I use this modem with Comcast Xfinity cable and phone and it works well. I have the 105mbps plan. It provides great speed and is reliable.
Frank Sammon –
Used this modem to replace the Comcast modem they were leasing me. This modem works great.
David A –
Had to return this due to it being filthy, didn’t look new one bit. Speedy return.
Customer –
Product was either defective or if Comcast was honest, no longer supported by the company. Worked sporadically, then no internet connection for 24 to 48 hours at a time. Lousy.
NEIL CAMARELLA –
Works great! Had a hard sell to comcast. In the end worked out.
Bob M –
Product was as described and arrived sooner than I expected. Works perfect. Great service!
carol scherzer –
After fighting with comcast a little to get this added to their I inventory, I was able to configure this for internet and phone pretty quickly. My wireless router is a separate device.
Chopper –
Works great. I plugged it in and later called Comcast when I was at work with the Mod# and Mac address. They saw it and activated it over the phone.I did have to re-activate it on their website to gt the phone working. I got improved speed right away!
Customer –
Product did not work, even after several attempts by COMCAST to activate. Product was returned to AMAZON.
Customer –
ARRIS SURFboard Router drops out almost everyday. Must start each day by rebooting the router! I have called their tech support at least 3 times. Every time I’ve called I have been instructed to connect to the router by cable and not wireless. Once they confirm my computer is now online they hang up on me WTF!
Mark –
We like the modem & have had no complaints. Getting it to work involved 2 long & unproductive calls to Comcast and one quick one where we actually lucked into an agent who knew what he was doing. Par for the course, I’m sure, but we were especially pleased that the modem vendor was exceptionally supportive throughout. We’ll definitely remember them.
Olaf Wernicke –
Bought a Refurbished One from DOCSIS for 80 USD. Arrived obviously slightly used looking with Ntw and Power Cable, but without battery. Contacted Comcast via internet trouble shooting. Gave them SN and what-ever, and after 40 min had modem internet working, but not the phone yet. Called activation line from my cell-phone, and after another 20 min had both internet and phone over network working. = Total of 60 min to get it activated. AND, for whatever reason my download speed improved from 58 to 88 Mbps. And, tomorrow I will happily return Comcast $10 USD per month rental modem. And, I am happy to report that the Comcast phone over net is the same quality as AT&T’s land-line was, but now it’s cheaper and displays callers, too without additional charge. HAPPY.
anna marie montone –
The router number according to Comcast was destroyed and Comcast needs to restore it if not we need a new router.
Jim –
Worked flawlessly after comcast activation. Unsure of the included backup battery. But seems to be working as of now.
Pacific NW –
I was renting one of these from Comcast but it’s obsolete now, as it tops out at about 135 Mbps on my 150 Mbps connection. I replaced it with a TG862 and I am getting 175 Mbps now.
Troy –
Quickly arrived as described.
John James –
Arrived in timely manner. Works great.
Mapirolli –
Works great and registered with Comcast no problem.
Jeff G –
Works great. Comcast had no problem setting it up and getting it running. Wi Fi is weak, you will probably need to add a wireless router and then bridge the modem. Comcast might help you with this. Beats giving Comcast the money.
Ethan in CT –
I bought this item used to replace my rented/leased Comcast equipment. I was not really looking to spend a lot on this unit so I bought it used, and it arrived in like new condition and was ready to go right out of the box. Product works as advertised, and was compatible with the Comcast/Xfinity network, including my VoIP phone line.Installation was a breeze, and activation with Comcast took less than 2 minutes (all done online with a laptop connected to modem via ethernet cable). I combined this with a TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router and have noticed a market improvement in wired and wireless performance across my home network.
Randle Reviews –
Works fine for Comcast in Miami!
Customer –
the product is compatible with my current internet service. which is a plus!! great price and product works. great packaging. it looks brand new! for a used price!! that’s what turned the 4 star into a 5 star. just wish the Ethernet cord was longer.
cj –
it works fine with Comcast no more paying them for rental
jeffp_100 –
Item works beautifully
vjacks –
Works as advertised
Customer –
Purchased on Amazon via Miakota. Modem does not work. Apparently I waited too long to attempt to hook it up to use. My cable company ran a test and determined it was defective. I am stuck and out of $54. Surely Amazon can do something. I will keep trying. Don’t be fooled by Miakota.
Steve –
By buying the used modem, that works great, I’ll save $60 in year one and $180 by the end of your two of my contract with Xfinity.
Oakwheel –
Works without a hitch. Got it used at discounted price. In less than a year, it paid for itself in saved rental charges by Comcast.
David L. Willis –
Fast shipping and it work well, had to call Comcast to help me with the install–working great
Alex Wilson –
It arrived and comcast said that it was previously labeled as destroyed and they could not add it to their system.
mike –
When I tried activating this modem with Comcast, I was notified that it was a Comcast modem and still registered to another account. I was told they cannot activate it to my account.
Joe D. Stukes –
good nd reasonable well.
Timothy J Christian –
Worked exactly as expected. Received the unit on time. Setup by Comcast was surprisingly easy. Took all of 15 minutes and I had no instructions except what was on the Comcast website.
Customer –
Not compatable per Comcast. Must return and get a different one
Imagebear –
This modem appears to be working as described. However, activation with Comcast, (zip 94577), was problematic; actually more like a PITA. Multiple calls to Comcast tech support for activation after the activation web page failed to materialize were not productive. Eventually was successful with online activation at http://activate.xfinity.com. The process required a fair amount of grit.
