How to Reset Linksys E2500
Resetting your Linksys E2500 wireless router is a quick and simple process that corrects a range of technical issues in your home network. We recommend knowing how to do this as it’s extremely useful in a variety of different situations.
- Plug in your E2500 to the power supply cable and allow it to boot up for 5 minutes.
- Locate the reset button on the back of the device. Press and hold down the reset button for 30 seconds.
- After you’ve held the button down for 30 seconds, release it and allow the device to reboot for about 5 more minutes.
Your Linksys E2500 is now reset to factory default settings.
How to Find Your IP Address
This method works on Windows computers and does not require any software to be downloaded. You’ll be using command prompt to find the internal IP address so you can log into your WiFi router or modem router’s settings panel.
- Click the start menu in the bottom left of your screen.
- In the search bar in your start menu, type in “cmd.exe” and then click on that program when it appears in the search.
- When the program opens, you’ll see a black window on your screen with white text.
- Type into the program “ipconfig“, then hit Enter. Your window should look like the one shown below. The IP address circled below shows where your internal IP address will be on your command prompt window. Now you can move on to accessing your modem or modem router’s settings admin panel.
How to Install Linksys E2500 Router Without CD

How do I set up my Linksys Wi-Fi Router if I don’t use the Setup CD?
In case your computer has no CD drive or you lost the Setup CD, you can still install your Linksys Wi-Fi Router by downloading the Linksys Connect Setup Software from the Linksys Support Site. To do this, you need to connect your computer first to a network with an active Internet connection or directly to the modem.
Alternatively, you can set up your Linksys Wi-Fi Router manually. Click on the links below for instructions on how to set up your router according to your Internet Service Provider (ISP):
IMPORTANT: Not all Linksys routers are compatible with Linksys Connect. To know what routers are compatible, click here. If you want to download the firmware or driver for your Linksys device, go to the Linksys Support Site and search for your device’s product page. For instructions, click here.
Go to the Linksys Support Site. Enter the model number of your product in the Search field and click on it.

Click on the DOWNLOADS / FIRMWARE button.

Step 3:
Select the Hardware version of your device.
Step 4:
Locate the Setup Software for your computer and click Download.
NOTE: When the End User License Agreement prompt appears, click the AGREE button.
Step 5:
Save the Setup Software and select a location on your computer to save the file. It is recommended that you save the file to the computer’s Desktop.
Step 6:
Double-click the Linksys Connect setup file that you have downloaded.
Step 7:Click the License Terms link to read the license terms and information. Then check the box once done. Click Next.

Follow instructions 1 and 2 on the setup screen. If your Internet connection is through satellite, T1 or fiber optic that doesn’t have a modem, connect the existing Ethernet cable to the yellow Internet port of the router. Click Next.


The setup process will automatically generate a unique Router name (SSID) and Password for your network. You can change this information by editing the automatically generated SSID and password for your wireless network. Click Next when done.

The setup will automatically identify your Internet connection type. If the software detects that you are using a DSL connection, a screen will appear to let you enter your user account details in the required fields. After doing so, click Next.QUICK TIP: Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides both the Account name and Password. If you do not have these, call your ISP.

You will then see a confirmation window showing that you are now connected to the Internet. Click OK to continue.
You will be redirected to the main Linksys Connect window. This window contains options that allow you to manage and personalize your network settings. However, if you have encountered an error while setting up your Linksys device, click here for more information.
NOTE: The Linksys Wi-Fi Routers, E800, E900, E1700, and E2100L do not have the Parental controls and Guest access features.
