Do not buy this item. It worked all of 3 months only. When I contacted the company, they requested that I pay them $59.99 in order for them to reconfigure modem so I can use it. Not reliable at all.Wasted money.

I was am so very pleased with this modem / router. I even plugged it to my Ausus router, because I need more than 3 ethernet ports and they work very well together. I was puzzled at first cuz of the 1 star reviews, but its probably people that do not know how to get their ISP information or their account information.I had the Actiontek PK5000 and that burned out in less than 6 months. Cisco is usually good. We will have to see, so far so very good.

I am a computer nerd and network administrator, and have been for 25-30 years. What I do at work, is not what I want to do at home – tinker on a computer or tinker on the network. I picked the Cisco Linksys because Cisco is THE God Of Networking, and Linksys is the god of home networks… the best of both worlds, right? Configuration, if I want, and ease of use when I don’t… Eh. Not so much. There is a firmware glitch that insists on using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup whether you have selected MANUAL or WFPS mode… :-|I have set my home network to not use the WFPS, but it INSISTS. I flashed the firmware from 2.0.0.1 which it was delivered with, because Cisco suggested it to “fix a GUI password issue.” Still no dice. The WFPS is looking for a password found on a sticker on the bottom of your router/modem. But when you put that key IN the required box, it still presents you with the never-ending detection pop-over that you cannot cancel — it takes it two minutes to fail, and then when you click OK, it begins the detection process again!Irritating as all!About the 25th time I (pick from these): selected WFPS; reset the router; selected MANUAL setup; reset the router; selected WFPS; factory-reset the router; selected MANUAL mode; updated the firmware; reset the router; selected MANUAL mode… ugh. Something in it decided I was adamant about it, and has given up. It hasn’t asked me today about the WFPS.Beyond that glitch – it seems to work like a champ.Using ATT DSL makes selecting a modem/router a little more of a limited choice, so I was hopeful that this will resolve the daily or multiple-daily dropped connections that ATT has blamed on my past four modem/routers (NetGear, Linksys, Zoom brands)…Its only been 1.5 days, so I will update this in a while to let you know if this has finally resolved the issue. This issue plagues many of us.ATT wants us to only purchase their overpriced and limited-depth routers. This will be my FOURTH time to prove that incorrect. Each of those brands work fabulously for a year or so before they begin exhibiting the symptoms of the mysterious “dropsies.”I still think when ATT does a network scan and realizes that someone has purchased something NOT-2Wire, that they sabotage the signal to try to force you to purchase their crapola. 😉 But that is just my conspiracy theory.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a good modem, then pick up this piece of sh*t (and skip getting a good modem altogether.)I wanted to use this only as a router, since the working modem is tiny, trouble free and excellent. As a tech trainer, MIS, developer, geek etc. I first tried setting this up on my lonesome – plugged it in, used the web interface and entered my settings.Simple as pie, except it didn’t seem to get an IP address from the modem = no internet. hmmm… maybe I did something wrong? Maybe the setup is not as simple as I think. Bad me.So I reset all the settings as they were when I took it out of the box, and used the ‘auto-setup’.Slick? Whatever. It took 20 times longer to do the same thing, and forced my router password to = my network password. OK: Price I’m willing to pay for a working network….. Wait a minute! No internet.Navigate to the router website, no Internet address, i.e. no IP address from the modem. You’re kidding. Hours and I just CANNOT get it to take an IP address from the modem. You plug a banana into this modem and *pop* it’s got an IP address. Every other router* connects, gets an IP address and keeps it moving. Airport Express does (but no hub), my Laptop does, the old overheating router does.I know that a refund will probably not suffice for the time & effort I’ve put in, even before the additional time and effort to OBTAIN the refund. That said, I’m almost sure I will have to fight my way out of a replacement. There are many OTHER brands of router you can get. You may save money if you get one of these on sale. If saving money is more important than a working modem/router/hub, go for it.pp*(I’m just trying to replace an older Cisco/Linksys router that -like this one according to another reviewer- overheats and dies, then works after you shut it off to cool down.)

I’ve had the Linksys X2000 for a week and it has been performing well… so far. I’ve been reading a lot of reviews to get ideas on improving the performance of the X2000 from various sources and the ratings are so-so and sometimes scary. Had I read all these reviews before purchasing the X2000, I probably would not have purchased it.I use it with a cable modem as a wireless router. I’ve been able to achieve the maximum ISP speed thru my wired connections and has worked flawlessly even when streaming HD content. The wireless connections to my printer, laptop and mobile devices have also worked well with few exceptions:- limited range,- wireless speeds seemed to be capped at around 15Mbs not up to 300Mbs as advertised. In the reviews I’ve read several people have modified it a bit to increase their router performance. Here is what I did to increase the wireless range and speed:(1) In “Setup” (use URL 192.168.1.1; logon: username – admin; password – the password used in the initial setup), the first thing I did was check the firmware and it was the original, from July 2011. I updated the firmware to the 10/9/12 dated firmware which makes the X2000 router IPV6 capable. I’ve read that the Internet Protocol standard is being changed in the next several years to IPV6 and this will future proof your router and make it more capable of using it with newer mobile devices.(2) The second suggestion would be to fix the “Standard Channel” in Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings to Channel 11 from Auto. This is to have less interference and also increase the range. Channel 11 is a less used channel. Or you could monitor/check to see if you have any free channels around your home with a free App such as WIfi Analyzer. This impoved my reception slighlty and may also improve any possible interference.(3) To increase wireless connection speeds: under “Applications & Gaming” in the QoS tab, tech support suggested “Disabled” for “WMM Support.” I am not exactly sure what this is for but it may be to permit continuous streaming of data as opposed to bursty internet access. I don’t need wireless streaming for internet TV, so having this off is OK in my case. Note that WMM = Wi-Fi Multimedia. In researching, WMM prioritizes data packets to give voice (VOIP) and video priority. It also features a “Power Save” certification to help small devices conserve battery life. This improved my wireless connection speeds to almost the maximum ISP speed.(4) And finally, the automated setup chose “WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode” for Wireless Security. Tech support suggested “WPA2 Personal.” This seems to work. I think this is the highest security.

Does a great job with the DSL internet.easy to set-up and fast.it has a bit less wifi coverage than the WAG160 so if you have a big house(with thick walls) it might not cover all the house.other than that its fast reliable and easy to use.recommended to anyone looking for a ADSL moden+router

CISCO, it’s got to be bullet proof, right? Not this one. I am a retired IT Professional who built more than one multi state, multi location system based 100% on CISCO routers and equipment. I fought this X2000 for three days then sent it back. It is not a reliable piece of equipment. On the up side Amazon has a bullet proof return system.

Summary: Not high priced but not enough benefit for the price.PROS: Not expensive. The unit looks nice and provides a huge improvement for wireless distance and speed inside my home.CONS: a) Like most wireless products, it either works or it doesn’t but don’t bother with Tech support; they always know less than the caller. There was no one in tech support at Windstream or at Linksys/Cisco who could get this to connect to my Windstream DSL – it almost went back right away for that, but I decided to keep the old slow DSL modem Windstream gave me and just use this for the wireless.b) Disconnects for a second or so several times a day – not enough to stop the browsing or download session, but just enough to be a nagging PITA. Compared to some reviews tho, not horrid – I only have to reboot about every 4 weeks… Note: the predecessor was slow, but only had to reboot about every 6 months.

This is a great gateway. Very easy to set up. I have one computer hard wired to it and six devised connected wirelessly, all are working great. I have been using it for about four months and no problems. This is my second Linksys devise. I will never buy anything else.

This product works greate with my AT&T DSL service. I had no problem setting it up using the Quick Setup feature. All my wireless and wired equipment works great. WII, IPOD, IPHONE, DROID RAZR, DISH Network Hopper, Laptops, Desktops etc..

Just received this modem today. Everyone says it won’t work with Century Link service. Read the slip in the box about getting the settings from your ISP even if they say it is not supported. Hooked it up put in the CD and followed the instructions. It couldn’t have been less painless to setup. It took about five minutes and it was up and running flawlessly. Configured my wireless printer and all my computers in minutes. Fast, and works everywhere in my house. I couldn’t be happier. I bought this to replace and old Actiontec modem and Linksys router(which still works perfect by the way).

When first released this router had some networking troubles, but now behaves great with current firmware, providing wireless G and N service to a house with several Windows and Mac laptops, and several smartphones. The cisco/linksys forums have alot of helpful information to use all the options.

I bought the x2000 right after moving to a new apartment. The first one I received was defective, but, after determining this, Amazon’s return process was incredibly quick. The new router is functioning very well.If you don’t know much about setting up a wireless router, the setup process is very painless, and takes about 5 minutes. I also manually set it up, and this took even less time. The range is about the same as my old 2Wire that AT&T gave me, but this one seems faster, even when using the same 802.11g protocol. Of course, switching to 802.11n was a definite speed increase.PROS- Very easy setup that anyone could do- Great speed- Admin page is very intuitive- You can turn off most of the LEDs on the front of the router, to minimize some of the annoyance.CONS- No IPv6 support- The default setup makes the admin password for the router the same as your WEP password, and that is unfortunate, since giving someone this key means you also just gave them access to your router admin. However, the router also supports one-touch wireless setup, so that probably fixes this problem.- No way to adjust the strength of the wireless signal (my 2Wire let me do this).

This one works hard to keep the signal connected. I’ve had it for a while and only had to reset it after a power loss.

I had a old Motorola modem issued by Qwest that finally died after about 7 years of 24×7 service so off to Bestbuy I went and bought the Linksys x2000. Normally I don’t purchase their purchase protection but I’m glad I did this time. First off setting up the modem to work with CenturyLink was a bit of a pain. Through trial and error I finally figured out the proper settings. Hard to search the internet for help when you can’t get to the internet – hence the reason for the new modem. Finally got it set up and everything was fine…for a short time. Immediatly starting having drops. Reboot and the service would come back up and then drop. Strangly it sometimes would stay connected for several days then drop and wouldn’t connect for up to a day. Then connect and drop. Also, the signal strength of the wireless never exceeded 60% unless I was right next to it. I daisy chained a Buffalo wireless router to it and connected my wireless devices to it instead. Last night I found a used Qwest/Actiontec on craigslist and hook it up. Connected in about 2 minutes and have had no drops yet. The x2000 is going back to BB.

I have AT&T DSL and I bought this to reduce the number of devices on my counter. This is a modem and wireless router in one. It works very well, the only issue I had with setting it up is that I needed a special password from AT&T to allow the internet to pass through it. Their customer service was very helpful and was quickly able to help me get online.

I had been having problems with my Zoom router dropping out from time to time. Had to reboot it on several occasions, it wasnt that realiable. I have now had this router for a month, and not once have i lost connection. Great signal throughout the house, no problems at all with it. Highly recommend this as a all in one router/modem. Neatens up your desktop!
Nicholas O’Grodnick –
The modem works ecatly as advertised. I needed a modem that supported IPOA and this was about the only one that supported that service. I have 2 installed with out any issues.
Customer –
Bought this to replace AT&T 2wire router after it failed. So far no issues, wireless range is good, would recommend it.
B. Zavala –
This product was great at first, and I had no problems until 6 months after my purchase (figures). Now the modem is dead. Since I don’t want to spend another $90 (and rightfully shouldn’t so soon), I’ll probably still utilize the wireless router with a new (and cheaper) DSL Modem. Hopefully the wireless doesn’t bust anytime soon.
William R. Henning –
Linsky comes though again. THis Wireless router was so easy to set up and get online as it did everything except plug it self in and connect to my Modem.
J. Lim –
It’s a nice little product, setup took about 10 minutes or so. Just follow the instruction which are real easy and you’ll be on your way. I’ve had it for a few months now and it’s holding up.

This review may have very little to do with this router. But since we just purchased this router and having a little hard time setting up the att internet service, hope this review may help whoever later on using whatever router.Step 1: Connect the router to the dsl cable and power it up. For me, the software comes with the router is basically useless. HONESTLY USELESSSSSSSS!!!Step 2: Connect your PC to the router, the password is a 8 number digit listed on the back of the router.Step 3: Open your internet browser and type in 192.168.1.1, it will direct you to the management interface of the router, username&password should be default as: admin/admin for the first time login.Step 4: In the PPPoE settings, User Name is xxxxxxx

Originally received product where the power adapter was wrong size for device, Replacement was shipped out right away and I was able to print shipping docs and return defective system at no cost. Works well though it can get a bit warm – do not place in direct sunlight.

Well, I thought I was solving a problem with an old, outdated modem with this one – however, during the installationI found myself in a continous loop wherein I received a prompt to enter my IP addresses, gateway, DNS and thename scheme for my DSL line – all of which I thought would be done dynamically…not so, so I quit this ever frustratinginstallation and installed another new one and voila – an effortless and easy install…nothing to do, accept watch theintall progress to completion. So, my recommentation for this unit, Linksys X2000, is not the way to go.

Had trouble contecting by working fine now. Did not have a Router but needed one for my Kindle. It was needed.
Anita C Crittenden –
I needed a router/modem and this said it was. I needed it for a Comcast connection and this one was for a phone connection. NO WHERE did it say that in all that I read. Was very disappointed in the way it was packaged. Looked like a used one, or possibly someone that got the wrong one like I did. Nothing was wrapped and no book explaining. Not quality like I always get from Amazon.

Bought this as an upgrade/replacement for an old Homeportal 1100 Modem with Linksys WRT54G router. After setup, had problems with the unit dropping the internet connection (not the wireless connection, just internet). Sometimes this would happen several times a day. Upgraded the firmware to the latest version, did not help. I had never had this problem with my original setup and equipment. I have a separate DSL filter (at entrance to my house) and phone line for my AT&T DSL line, so I know this was not the problem. After a couple of months of dealing with this problem, I RMA’d the unit back to Cisco/Linksys. Waiting to see if the unit they return will be any better. I need a reliable internet connect for my business, so I purchased a separate Netgear modem and wireless router. This system has been operating now for several weeks with no dropped internet connection. Again, proof that the problem is not with AT&T or my DSL line/physical connections. There are lots of posts on the internet about the X2000 unit dropping internet, so I feel this is not an isolated problem. The X2000 also seems to run hot (could this be a source of the problem)? Don’t know if I’ll ever buy another Linksys product.
Abdallah Awada –
I bought this router to install in our home and to replace a very old D-Link router/modem.My main reasons for choosing it were the nice looks and the trusted brand behind it and the prospect of installing a wireless N router that would greatly improve the wireless signal range over a very old wireless G router. After installing it, I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with the wireless signal performance of this router. The only room with adequate signal was the one the router was set-up in.If i moved out to the adjacent room, the signal went down to 2 bars.Any further than that and I would almost completely lose the signal.Unless you are installing this modem/router in a very small apartment, I wouldn’t recommend buying it for the sole reason of weak wireless signal

Title says it all. On a side note I have always liked how detailed the settings are on Linksys routers and will continue to use them for a long time.don’t use the cd to setup tho, its junk.
F. Bello –
I work professionally in IT consulting and have seen many wireless deployments. After helping a client setup a new x2000 I had it with Linksys. I find unacceptable that this device by default operates in AP isolation. This means that the devices connected wirelessly to the router cannot see the rest of the LAN. They can only go out to the internet.Linksys forums have the face to disclose that there is an ‘advanced’ wireless setup page that they seem to have ‘forgotten’ to put in the administration UI in order to disable AP isolation.Even after you figure out how to do the above, the device reverts to IP isolation in random intervals and needs to be rebooted over and over.Don’t even think about buying this very incomplete and sloppy deployed product.Obviously my customer’s unit is already on its way back to the store. what a waste of time is Linksys creating.

I bought this all in one networking device to replace an old Westell with the same basic features and functionality. It works ok with my AT&T DSL no problem and speeds are not in issue. But the wireless radio on this device is not very powerful. The old device covered my whole house and part of my yard no problem but this one not so much.As soon as you leave the room that it is in the signal really fades, to the extent that I thought it was defective and spent a few hours with Cisco/Linksys customer support troubleshooting it to no avail. Only after they gave up and instructed me to return it did I realize that is probably just not meant to be that powerful of an AP. That might be a good thing for people with small homes or apartments; but for midsize to large houses pass on the X2000.I also found the parental controls to be lacking. For example you can’t use the IP or Mac address of the devices you are trying to filter with a timer; only the network name that devices advertize themselves as (in some cases nothing/null). I think it is set up this way to be user friendly for non techies but this only leads to bigger problems; Picking the right device out of a list of several “Network Device”s that have no other description. And you can only set up filtering rules for a total of 5 devices. I expected more in the parental controls to be a little more advanced.Aside from the poor WiFi signal strength and questionable parental controls the X2000 works fine and setup is easy with the included CD.

Product arrived on time, but was a refurbished unit, not a new one that I purchased and paid for. I used the online return process and within a few hours, a new one was on its way-overnight. Delighted with Amazon’s response and customer service. Everyone makes mistakes… but it’s how they handle their mistake that counts.Linksys X2000 router/modem was installed without a hitch; replacing a Qwest router modem for my DSL line. I’m really pleased with the additional range of the 802.11b/g/n, and setting up a wireless network was a snap. My primary reason for the switch, was for the additional security that my older modem didn’t offer and this product will provide additional features that I may want in a couple of years.Happy with the product, but the real hero in this review is Amazon’s amazing customer service!

I purchased this router modem combo to replace my old AT&T dsl modem and linksys router. The modem constantly loses its connection to my dsl but the router keeps the network running so I am constantly resetting it. I went to linksys web site and saw there was a new firmware so I downloaded it and upgraded I mean down graded. The firmware was a disaster and my web sites were no longer accessible including my App Store and iTunes. The trick is that linksys does not offer their older versions of firmware so I spent hours with support with no real help. Eventually I gave up with them and went out on my own to find someone in the forums who had an older version. Now I have a new modem router combo that I get to rest whenever I want to use the Internet. Thanks linksys for nothing. This is the last product I will be buying with your name on it.

This is an unstable router which often hangs and loses connection. I do not recommend anyone to buy it. I have had problems with this router from the very first week it was installed, and the frequency of it losing connection and hanging got more frequent. After 2 months, the router cound not connect at all and now needs to be replaced.

Hated to mark “hate it” but needed to express my disappointment. It was not compatible with my service and i need to return it but do not know the process. At this point I wasted the money. Never had to return anything with Amazon. Please advise

The x2000 was not supported by my DSL provider the settings for the linksys does not allow DHCP according to CISCO.

I have DHCP DSL service with DSL Extreme. I spent over an hour with DSL Extreme Support. We tried all configurations from PPPoE to RFC bridged and the device would not pass traffic.I called Linksys support and spent over an hour with them. Same troubleshooting steps, same results. They finally said try requesting static IP from DSL Extreme.I boxed the device up and sent it back. Ordered an Actiontec GT784WN DSL Modem Router which took about 10 minutes to set up and I was connected with the default settings.

Needed a great modem/router to work with Centurylink and wanted to avoid using their slower modem with a jacked up rental price. This proved a winner. Installed with cd, used user ID and password, selected the option to Bridge, and Sprint as ISP. It’s working fine with pc, wireless printer, 4 iPads and 2 iPhones, and two smart tvs. No more dropping signal and much faster processing. Happy.

For some time now, I have been having trouble connecting to my IP DSL provider and keeping that connection. I had been using the Verizon supplied (now Fairpoint in NH) Westell router. The same problems existed on 3 computers (2 different operating systems, XP Pro and Windows 7). It required frequent resets just to connect and while online, additional resets just to reconnect. I figured it was time to “upgrade”.I bought this router (Linksys X2000) based on many reviews here. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews. After a not so easy install (had to set WZC to Start and Automatic settings), I was finally connected. Speed was improved but the joy was short lived! During the first hour, I was disconnected again, mandating another reset. I tried living with this for a week and finally called my IP. Though I was always synced to their service and was “connected”, I could not reach the internet. They told me they would provide a new ADSL2+ router at no charge and would walk me thru the install when I received it. A few days later I received the ComTrend 5381u, plugged it in, called the IP who took about 15 minutes to get the router up and running. Since that time, I and the other computers are able to connect and stay on line without a single disconnect. Needless to say, I have returned the X2000. (A BIG Thank You Amazon for the seamless return policy and swift action…your the best!).Linksys X2000 Wireless-N Router with ADSL2+ Modem

My suspicion was aroused when My “new” router arrived in a bubble pack and not a box. Installation of wireless was terrible and required Lynksys tech support. Surprisingly they told me that the warranty for the product was outdated, but after verification of purchase by providing dealer and order number etc was told warranty was in force???? The real kicker was when I pulled the installation CD out to Store it I realized that it was labeled certified refurbished. It works but I’m not happy I was duped, I won’t be purchasing from this vendor again!

I researched my purchase and based on the reviews, bought this router. The router got so hot, the plastic melted on the back. Also, I constantly lose my connection and have to power off and back on to get it working again. I don’t know if it is a setting or what. My DSL provider says it’s not them and verified the settings for the connection are correct. Very annoying! Had to call Cisco twice to send a replacement, and they make you pay return shipping. All in all, very dissatisfied. Just hope the new one works better.

Since purchasing this router to service our two computers, the internet kept shutting down on my computer, forcing me to reboot the router… We called Cisco who went into my computer and said I had a CSSC virus which he would gladly fix for $169…Noooo, I don’t think so. We have had Trend Micro Titanium security installed for the past 2 years…After several tedious security checks it was found that we had NO viruses or threats on the computer in question. We changed out the router to a previously functioning one that we had kept for emergencies and voila! No more dropped internet connections. I am not a techy type person. When a tool doesn’t work (and I have since found out that this is a common issue with this router) and you go to the company for help and they lie to you about a supposed virus to try to sell you a very expensive fix, I say don’t buy the product in the first place!
TMCLEN –
The wireless on this works awesome, very fast and transmits all over the house and into my shop outside(using a wireless antenna in the shop). I was able to get it to work replacing my frontier poorly built router. This router works really well and is very easy to set up.

After having this device for nearly a year I find that too often the wireless router drops its connection and my computer or phone or TV has to reconnect – which is annoying, to say the least. I’d love to replace it, but given that I sunk $90 on it, I feel stuck. When I do decide to replace, I will avoid Cisco/Linksys. What’s the phrase… First time, shame on them; second time, shame on me? I’ll not give them a second chance.

A great product. It works beyond my expectations. I am quite happy with my purchase of the Linksys X2000 Wireless-Router.

A great disappointment for a product branded Cisco/Linksys. Bought new less than a year ago. Always had mysterious issues with frequent dropped connections on wireless N. Have run a few other wireless with no issues like this one has had. Now it can’t even maintain a wired conn–creating so much noise that high bandwidth is reduced to a point of browser inoperability. I got this to combine my ADSL unit and wireless into a single device. Will not buy another, and will look carefully at any other Linksys products in the future. Giving the second star only in case I got the lemon.

The CD ROM with setup software for MAC’s “running OS X Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6 or later” did not work on anything later than listed. Error message that the operating system is not supported. I am using 10.8.4 on a Mac Book Pro and iMAC. I had no luck trying to manually configure using 192.168.1.1. Even this was buggy on my computer. Ended up using a Windows 7 laptop to run the CD which took 2 attempts to get modem recognized and configured. Once configured on a Windows platform, the MAC’s recognized and run just as good as the Windows platform. Cisco/Linksys X2000 website has a download for MAC’s but that’s the same as the CD that was provided. Modem runs good as any other. Other than install/setup problems for Macintosh, would rate 5 stars.

This worked great for a couple months and then when it worked it worked, but half the time it did not. It ended up becoming a over heating nightmare, every time you wanted it to work you would have to reset it or unplug for twenty minutes. I ended up putting fan behind it, that helped for two months, and then a light timer on it so it would shut down every couple hours for thirty minutes. A little while longer and that does not help anymore. I figured for the price it would do better than it has and I hope that I can return it after the nine months of regret.
M. Selby –
This modem/router overheated and ceased transmitting repeatedly. I’m guessing the two problems were related. As you can imagine it was extremely frustrating to have to go over and turn off/on at least once a day. I got zero support from the 3rd-party seller when I tried to return it, but Amazon was great about giving me a credit to immediately purchase a replacement. The TP-Link that I have now is perfect. I’m pretty sure you can easily link to my review of it. That is the one you want to buy.
LKimmel –
Thanks to the service department, this product was very easy to put up and get started. Love the ease and size of the router/modem.
mb –
didn’t know it wouldn’t work with my cable. hate to pay fee to TW for a modem. need more info before you buy.
John C. Sowers –
Purchased May 2013 to replace an ATT 2 wire modem. Had misgivings about this product since there almost as many one star as five star reviews for it. Set up was easy and it initially worked well. Then dropped connections began, becoming more frequent over time. I finally gave up on it last night and went back to the old 2 wire. Believe the one star reviews for this product.

maybe everyone else knows the secret word / password but i bought another router that came with a piece of paper that said in plain english your secret password is located right there . needless to say once you know the secret , it is not hard to get it to work . i know everything must be secure but maybe the buyer could get a hint of some kind ……
Mike –
Not sure why but this piece of equipment gets hot and we lose our wireless signal often. We usually need to unplug the device and reboot every other day. Also, not sure what range to expect but my son receives two of five bars in signal strength from downstairs to upstairs.
Mohamed Mohamed Thabet Ahmed –
hi,really i like linksys modem cause it’s so easy install and great in wireless too so it’s superthanks

Jake Lindberg –
Great signal throughout the house and outside on the deck. I am able to use multiple devices on it and download movies no problem.
Ananth –
Had issues initially in configuring the router.Hangs some times. But we need to re start to make it work fine.User interface to configure is not top class.
Sami Daghman –
am really dissapointed, cuz at begining the modem worked great in browsing and download, but suddenly the download speed dropped down.and was written new in the order, wen i received linksys it was in refurb box …. wat to say? a waste of money! and advertising the gadget with other word is totally bad market!dont buy refurbished gadget ever cuz u dont knw wat problems had before and wat u can meet plus pay high price for nothing!
MKN WA.State –
it works. Now I can view my security cameras.
sklemp –
Love it. Got it in 2 days, unboxed it, plugged it into the wall, inserted the CD in my wife’s mac since my laptop doesn’t have a cd drive, followed the on-screen setup and was surfing the web in less than 10 minutes. It automatically detected most of the major settings, the only thing I had to tell it was my username/password for CenturyLink and that it was a Qwest account. Can’t recommend this product enough, sure beats having to rent a modem that barely works and connecting it to a 5-year old wireless router.
Larry L’Italien –
Spent over four hours with loosy tech support before first unit deemed defective. Kept dropping like a hot tomato, would be great if we got 15 minutes of uninterrupted service connection. Now onto replacement unit and on hour two with tech support. Ready to throw in the trash heap. One crappy ass product and tech support.
XaruntelElatar –
I can’t give it five stars due to the fact that it did not work for me. It may have something to do with the ISP. was not worth the hassle of figuring it out. i sold it to a friend and it worked well for him.Fast shipping.
Pratik Babariya –
its is modem plus router but my internet provider Time Warner Cable; its not compatible with this Model so I have to buy separate modem apart from that it works fine so far.
Richard Fink –
Our new Linksys X-2000 wireless-N-router/modem works like a charm! Extremely quick and easy set-up & configuration. The included CD contained precise and understandable instructions – a welcome change from the minimalist (and too often just plain non-existent) “instructions” that have been our past experiences on various networking devices. With the DSL modem working (Ethernet-wired connection), it was time to suffer through the tedious and time consuming task of getting 5 other devices connected wirelessly. What a great surprise! Connecting all 5 of them took less that ten minutes. Totally frustration-free, hassle-free.This Cisco Linksys product is an absolute winner. Yes it does cost a little more than competing products: you have my word, it IS worth every penny.
Robert Warburton –
Have not connected it. Been happy with Linksys products and don’t this one will work fine for me also. Thank you
Slacker –
I’ve been a long time user of Linksys routers. I’ve used this router for over two years, and I’ve been loving it.Some Pros and Cons that I’ve noticed are below:Pros:Solid wireless connectivity.Guest access with password.Configure once, then left alone.QoS feature prioritizes traffic according to your preference.Cons:WPA only works half the time, the other times, not so much. One of the wired ports died after a month, leaving only two operational ports, but I have a backup switch to add more ports.Wireless was unstable under N mode, especially at the 20-foot range. Switching to G mode actually sped up the speed by 30%. Go figure. As someone already mentioned, wireless clients are isolated; no connection between wireless clients, and no options to enable this. Even my old WRT54 had this option. Conclusion:It has its faults, but nothing I can’t work around. The points above are just my experience. Your experience may vary.

Lept having internet issues, and couldn’t figure out why since I have had several tech’s from Frontier out to look into it! I contacted my IT guy, and first thing he asked was, “You have a Netgear Modem?” I told him “yes!” Was told to try any modem besides Netgear, and haven’t had any internet issues since!
LT –
I set up my new modem in minutes, set up a new network, and all is well. I am pleased with the ease of installation
R.J. –
First of all I have 2 of these and the first unit (refurbished) gave me constant headaches. I have an extensive background in technology including networks and could not get the unit to run more than a couple of days without requiring a reboot due to the ADSL losing sync. I liked the feature set so decided to try another unit and have not had one problem since. The device works and provides a decent set of features more than sufficient for the average user. I did look into whether or not this model could accommodate third-party firmware (e.g. DD-WRT), however, learned it could not. The firmware of the first unit was one revision behind the latest available. I attempted to update it but still had issues. This unit was 2 revisions behind (v.2.0.00) so I decided not to do any updates and see how it worked. No problems so I’m going to keep the firmware as-is so I don’t inadvertently introduce any problems with operation. Note this version of firmware doesn’t have the tiered logging capabilities built into the later versions, however, I was only using logging to troubleshoot the other modem so this hasn’t been an issue for me. I’m also not sure if you can downgrade the firmware since it is not available on the manufacturer’s website.I’m using a slightly advanced configuration from what an average user might setup so have done the complete product setup via the web GUI rather than the install wizard CD. Either should work fine, however, access to advanced features does require doing a manual setup. The web admin GUI is standard Linksys and easy to setup, however, does require several reboots when making multiple configuration changes. Once the reboot is finished, each feature worked as expected and have not had any hiccups to speak of.The only downside I have is with regard to the network ports. First of all, there are only 3 ports available for wired connections. Usually 4 is the minimum. Secondly, the ports are 10/100 (Ethernet/Fast Ethernet) whereas gigabit ports would be better.

My internet used to cut off every once in a while and that affected my gaming. After i got this awesome router it never disconnected me from the internet. It is a great product

Purchased this Prime and had it delivered the next day. The first problem I had was that the CD it comes with runs of ancient operating systems (speaking from a Mac OS point of view). So I had to call and set everything up via phone call. So we tried that, and to Linksys’ credit, everyone we talked to was very polite and friendly. Unfortunately that doesn’t fix the problem. After 2 hours on the phone with them we established it could not be set up due to the hardware not being compatible with an up to date operating system. So, if you have OSX Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion then go for it. If you have Mountain Lion, or Mavericks don’t bother. They told me to return it and buy a more “up-to-date” model.
Customer –
I live in Mexico where the DSl is spotty and non reliable at best. To add insult to injury, the modem/routers they supply are the worst made in China products ever! I finally got bold after 8 years and 5 of their modems later to investigate getting my own modem/router. This Cisco/Linksys modem came highly recommended and sure enough, they were right! I was going to have my tech service set it up, but went ahead (in my limited knowledge of hardware/software) and set it up myself with only one phone call to my IP provider. So easy and saved $40 bucks. I recommend it highly!
Guillermo Melgarejo Flores –
Is exactly I wanted to unify a modem and router/switch on my home
joejamescat –
I like this router – modem combo put out by linksys. The range is good to fair and it is easy to setup. If you want something easy, quick, and secure; then this product is for you.
Leonardo M. Santos –
Very cool device. Sometimes it goes out of net, but no so often.
Lincy –
Set up was more like 1-7, vs. 1,2,3. Works like a charm, as I expect with Linksys. Thank you.
Glass House –
I purchased Cisco/Lynksys assuming quality and I was wrong. The router works fine, but don’t try to use it more than 15 feet away. The Wi-Fi is VERY week. I get stronger signal from my neighbor’s Netgear router and it is in his house 50 feet away.
Kevin –
Constantly dropped out from any type of interference. Worked well when working. Easy to return.
Abet –
We received the x2000 last year in July 2013. It was difficult to connect to our internet but our IT guy did connect it after several tries. It does drop our internet at times but only occasionally. Recently, our biggest compliant is that the modem itself started getting hot about 3-4 weeks ago. I have been leaving it unplugged except when we are home and am shopping for a different modem. By the way, the plan only allows for support services for 1 year. How convenient is that??
Guille –
What a waste of money, even after installing the latest firmware and endless hours of fine-tuning the WiFi channel and physical location, this piece of c… keeps continuously dropping the connection, even the cheap phone company router is more reliable; I would return it right away if I were in the States.I used to like Linksys/Cisco equipment, but looks like quality has dropped. Don’t bother with this unit and keep looking.
SANVI –
This modem/router has had no problems since installed. Wireless capability reaches far enough for a whole house.
Julie –
Working perfect, no complains. I wished the software was preinstalled on devise, but does come with CD. Took some time to convince the software I wanted both router and modem (even when I clicked the correct button). Started over twice. Nice to see the yellow paper reminding you to get user and password from ISP, made it quick once I convinced the system I needed both. Range as expected. Getting the speeds I expected.
diane rubin –
this did not say that it was a rebuilt item – and didn’t find out until we couldn’t get it to work. Then we were told the warranty wasn’t good on it because it had been purchased a year before.
AVS –
Does the job. Caution: the CPU overheats. I opened the package and screwed the board to the wall, thus allowing for the direct access of the air to internal components. I also added an after market radiator to the CPU.
Jazper –
It worked fine for 13 months then out of warranty it started flaking out.
Anjie –
Wireless internet does not work as well as I thought it would for my laptop.
techDBA –
I had a conversation with my spouse after suffering snail speeds who was reluctant to go with a combo device. After checking my options and product availability, I selected this device for name recognition and value which incidentally can be used as a router only if you prefer to keep router and modem separate. Installation was smooth sailing and had I had my ISP, DSL account information on hand, I would have gotten the router installed without assistance. Some of the reviews I read on this product don’t like the CD and support page, but I found them straight forward. I had the router/modem up and running in about an hour. Fortunately, the device supports the ISP I have service with. Afterwards I ran speed tests from ISP’s support page and another from an independent site and got blazing fast speeds. Incidentally, I’ve had DSL for at least 8 years. The modem I’m replacing is 5+ years old. I highly recommend this item for those in need of a replacement modem and or router. I’m browsing the web and viewing video clips without the frustration I suffered from the s-l-o-w c-o-n-n-e-c-t-i-v-i-t-y issues of the past.
Richard Huebsch –
Works well. Just what I expected.
Walres –
This is a great deal for a router, that performs excellent.. I would recommend this product to my friends and family.
T. Wallace –
works great! easy to set up
sharon –
It does every thing I expect it to do. I would recommend it to all.
EWWAHL –
I always buy linksys since I have had good luck mostly. I moved to an area with only DSL so I had to get a modem/router and I figured the linksys would be sufficient. However for some reason this router will not show DHCP clients or allow the reservation of IP’s. In fact the web interface froze completely whenever I selected the gaming tab. I struggled with this and finally picked up another brand that works perfectly.
Shelby –
This Linksys X2000 Wireless-N Router with ADSL2+ does not work. It says it works with ATT but it does not work.We tried everything, called ATT for help and they done everything possible to get it to work. So it is no good to us.I would like to return it.Shelby
William –
Modem router was delivered timely and works well, but set up wad not automatic nor straight forward (procedures outlined didn’t work). Had to spend a couple hours on the phone with with my ISP and Linksys to complete the setup for it to work.
Betsy B –
NOT EASY to set up. Spent literally hours on the phone with Indian tech services trying to set up. I had no idea it could even be so complicated, as every other modem/router I’ve ever purchased had a 5-10 minute set up. This was ridiculous. Also – they tried to tell me my warranty had expired – I JUST BOUGHT IT. As for the actual quality of the product, I guess only time will tell, but my expectations are pretty low.
Maximo Hatta –
Good purchase.
Susanne –
It was a little difficult to get connected, but I’m in my 50’s and not as computer savvy as many people. Once the AT&T person got me connected all has been well since.
Lewis –
This router did not work when it arrived I contacted Linsksys customers service and was told that the warranty had expired. I guess it started when it was made, not when it was sold. I am returning it and there will be no more of that brand.
Monty baird –
Its great

Good router. So far its working fine.
emily deshpande –
Does not work! waste of time, don’t bother with this.
CrazyConsumer –
Works great, easy set-up, no complaints for the price. Gives access to whole apt.
Mojo –
This our second one! First one lasted about three years with constant use which is above average for electronic devices this day in my book! Easy set up and troubleshooting if it’s not working too!
nagendra sadhanagiri –
Good for DSL only
Ssssnice –
Bought this about a year or so ago…always having to reset it i.e. power cycle it. It’s getting worse. Very frustrating. I won’t buy another Linksys product. Going to try something new…and pay a little more to hopefully get something that lasts…though all things are made to be broken these days.
Ray –
Works well with centurylink. It was a pain in the a$$ to set up though due to the centurylink reps not knowing what they are talking about. If they tell you that this product won’t work (which they told me) don’t listen to them.
Bruce White –
The unit performs as stated and the set up was easy to complete. The price was a great deal!
Brendan K. –
Wrong one I bought
JoJo –
Works like its suppose to and had all necessary cords with it.
Primrose –
Works okay out of the box. The automatic setup program is very fussy and failed three attempts to identify ***basic*** DSL settings. When I entered the settings manually, the setup program stalled. However, when I restarted my laptop, everything was working. Ugh. Whatever. At least it works.
Khristal –
Disappointed didn’t work with at&t
Steven –
This has been a good alternative to the ISP provided gateway (ie Modem / Router combo) . This gateway has a smaller footprint than an Linksys E3000 Router, and reduces the number of devices need to check if you need to solve network solutions. The setup was pretty standard for a Linksys product, however it wasn’t as plug-n-play for the DSL connection as it indicated. This also doesn’t have a DHCP option in the DSL Setup, so a work-around will be needed. this is the reason it missed out on 5 stars. I’ve owned several Linksys products in the past, and will continue to utilize their products in the future.
projects67 –
Love Linksys equipment, didn’t work with my internet. Great user interface and user friendly, but just didn’t work with my Century Link connection.
Flex Buffchest –
Great product!
Roger J. Stricker –
Ya this is SO much better than renting the unit from CenturyLynk. It worked so well I got a second one for my shop.
terry –
drops service erratically
Gooby –
works great so far and easy install. I have had it 1 month.
Rikai –
I purchased this router to get around the $8/month fee my ISP charges for using their router. That being said, I didn’t expect much from this little box, but as always Cisco has once again surprised me. The wireless signal is strong at the opposite end of the house where the other router had no wireless at all. I have a 6mbps plan from my ISP, which was 6mbps on their router but I continually get 6.5-7 with this one. My ISP is Windstream in NC. For those of you looking to use this with Windstream, the only settings you’ll need are your username and password, along with the VCI/VPI (0/35 for me) and select PPPoE as the connect method
Kristin L –
Great size for a small house
The Brinckster –
Great modem! Setup was so easy I was amazed! Just put the disc in, follow very easy to understand instructions and you’ll be online with full security enabled in minutes! Highly recommended product and seller! Shipping was fast as always too! Thanks again Amazon!
Tink –
Does NOT work with AT&T U Verse. Returned it.
sudhir reddy thaduru –
I could not use router since my Comcast has a Coax cable.
Francisco Rodrigues –
excellent product, had some drawbacks to set it up but in the end it succeeds and meets the functions I needed, there is only one detail is that amazon Stand Excellent protection for sending but the box it came packed too big and when I say too was very, very large, this caused me discomfort and pay the freight to its final destination was high, eyelet and upcoming purchases made heed this recommendation and packaged products in packages tailored to more purchases, the other excellent product
withelmina yap –
Very slow. But I guess it’s because it’s only DSL. I wish I could return but it’s too late.
Carlos Viloria –
excellent product
vicente –
muy bueno
omri suliman –
This linksys product didnt meet my expectations from it.To be honest there was a very little change between it to my old Netgear moden-router
Luke Adams –
This product arrived defective. After a few hours on the phone with the tech guy at Linksys is became clear that the product was completely unusable as it arrived to me. It never worked properly at all. To add insult to injury their return policy was strict enough to prevent my return of this nonfunctional piece if equipment. Avoid this seller.
dave lemmon –
it ok
Jeremiah Brent –
Replaced a centurylink all in one with this and so far no problems for 2 months! Easy to configure and fast connections. Very happy customer
Maria Farias Osorio –
Works well. The signal, in all places of my apartment, is good, but sometimes the signal fail while I’m working, and I have to reboot the modem router that is annoying.
Penny Wondergem –
It worked just fine for what I need it for.
Ray Chakrit –
It hung up my internet connection every few weeks (even in cold) and need reset. The older modem-only version AM300 is very reliable but died after many years of use so I replaced it with this X2000 and became very disappointed. So I bought a cheaper Zyxel modem AMG1001 which run smoothly ever since.
Michael Emigh –
Great gear saves me the fee of leasing mediocre gear.
V. lindsay –
did not work as stated, however I was given money back.
Jim Erickson –
It works great. Would have been 5 stars if the ad would have said for 3 or less devices. Not described very well in the product description. Easy to setup and has great range.
Shirley –
It did not because It is capable with ISP.
Chevy D Burgess –
this came quick nicely packaged didn’t hook it up or anything the box says it only runs 3 devices we have more than 3 devices would be perfect for one person. needing to return this please
Robert Volentine –
I tried configuring the routermodem combo and the connection kept dropping and it was difficult connecting to the router to modify settings. It kept telling me there was no internet connection. I shouldn’t need an Internet connection to access router settings. I finally plugged in my old Westall modem and configured the router as a router only and it works with that configuration.

excellent team works very well and is very easy to install

works great
Dan Powell –
I sent this back, wow, neither the people at linksys nor windstream had a clue how to make this thin work!
anonymous –
It says it’s compatible with Mac OS….but after I got it (way after I got it, and too late to return it), I discovered it is NOT COMPATIBLE….Am I mad? YES! Am I pissed? YES!
Frederick snyder –
Easy hook up
Bri –
This is a low end product. If I have more than 4 devices wireless connected it acts funky. Linksys recommends a better model and the description on the box(which you can’t see on amazon) pretty much meshes up with what I just said.
Jim Wainwright –
does all I expected it to do at a good price
M. R. Grebe –
Returned it I was not able to hook this up to my DSL and was told by Linksys when I called for help that this was an old model and that it was used and had already been registered by someone else years before! And that it was no longer supported by Linksys!
J. Sciacca –
So nice to finally upgrade from my old wifi and router I had for 10 years, so much faster, takes up minimal space!
Stephanie Morris –
Works great! We have AT&T DSL and although it is not “supported” through AT&T, it works just fine.
G. Stewart –
This Linksys Router was purchased to replace a router that was more than 5 years old. I went with what I knew which was Linksys Wireless. I had good service and experience with the old one, and the new model started right up where the old one left off. I am very happy with it.
Ashraf Bahgat –
Good combo ADSL modem + router with good wireless range
Virgil H. –

Great +++
C Myers –
Couldn’t tell you what i think. It won’t install on my PC.
Michael B –
Works good but do wish I would have upgraded to the dual band for a better coverage of the whole house
Virendra Singh –
One of the best!!!
Thomas Shepley –
Bough this when i signed up for verizon dsl because they dont offer fios where i live. I ended up switching to comcast but i was still able to use this as a router but not as a modem. Bought a modem and hooked up this router and it seemed alright. Wifi speeds arent great, only about 15 mbps down. But the main reason i bought a new router is because this router keeps dropping connection, very unreliable. Especially since i am a “cord cutter” meaning i dont have cable and i stream everything. Also this is not dual band and only “n” and not “ac”. I upgraded to the TP-LINK Archer C5 AC1200 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router. A little more money but a better product.
Michael Ortiz –
Good Router For Basic Ussage.
Pamela –
Set the network up in less than 10 minutes. Easy to install. Highly recommend!
jradke138 –
This was perfect for my computer illiterate girlfriend. She did not know the difference between a router and a modem so this was my gift to her.
Right Reason –
Setup was indeed easy, but within 12 hours the connection failed. Went to Linksys support and there is live phone support but you have to pay $29.99. Online Chat support indicated that my firmware needed upgrading. Did that and the dropped connections became more frequent. I returned the product. I had been using a TP-Link ADSL router and it never lost a connection, although I wish it had the guest feature. In sum, I’m very dissappointed that CISCO/Linksys aren’t able to produce a simple modem/router that doesn’t drop connections. Free telephone support is also a must with these routers.
James A. Ristow –
I am contemplating a switch from AT&T DSL Internet to Comcast. AT&T speed is less than 5Mbps and Comcast offers up to 30Mbps for nearly the same price. The “rub” is that I am reading some very negative reviews on the effort of new subscribers to avoid the $7.00 monthly charge for their modem. I own a Cisco-Linksys X2000 ADL+2 and cannot determine if this is compatible with Comcast service. In fact, I am not certain of the protocol of Comcast service. I would like to avoid the necessity of purchasing another modem, if possible. Can anyone provide information on their experience with Comcast insofar as the modem is concerned. Various sites wax eloquent on the problems and misinformation they have received in this area. It is openly stated that Comcast has a “deal” with Best Buy and that they have the only “working modem” for the Comcast service. I’d like to know if this is true. But, most of all I’d like to know if I can use the modem I have and, if not, what do I need to buy???
Oakley Bek –
I am really liked this modem!I have a big problems on my telephone line and other modems like TP_LINK , DLINK cant work on my line and even DSL link didnt come up. but Linksys X2000 works just great! Speed is wonderufull! Wifi Works Great!I reccomend it to all who has a problems on line.Using it about 2 years and there is still no problems with it!
Karisuz –
DO NOT BUY!! This product is very out of date. I bought this in Aug. 2015, and when we had an Internet outage it reset itself so I had to call Linksys to get help to reset it. It couldn’t be done. They do not manufacture this modem/router any longer. It’s so out of date the warranty is out, the support from Linksys is out of date (but they were nice enough to try to help me anyway), and they have no new software to up date this product. THE IS AN OLD PRODUCT. Save yourself some time and money, spend a little more and go to Best Buy and get a new product that will last longer than 4 months.
Kenn –
have had it several years and is great phone system
D. Rothmeyer –
My phone provider modem died and bought this one because the phone co wanted $$$$ for theirs. Thought this would be good since it’s a router and modem in one.A couple mo later my connection won’t stay. The linksys rep tells me that I have an old model from 2014 and my product is out of warranty. I bought mine in December 2015. He suggested I update firmware which I did.UPDATE 4-17-16After numerous lost connections I’ve just had it. Even with the firmware update we kept losing internet. I’ve replaced with with an Action tec modem/router and all is well.
N. Werle –
another piece of crap , its software loads so slowly, 192.168.1.1,its price too high, but you cant find it cheap, there is no external antenna to keep faster!Drop internet and thus needs to be recyclked
Max Blomberg –
Bought it to replace a failing CenturyLink modem/router, but was incompatible with CenturyLink service (learned a lot since ordering this, like the differences between modems and different xDSL architectures). Giving it a 3 since I can’t really say it’s bad or good without using it, and it’s not its fault it can’t use VDSL, it’s just by design.
Alejandro Agudo –
Nice item
danielle –
Works very well. I’ve had it for about 8 months with no issues.
olga rios –
it took care of all my problems with fax through computer
Eric D. –
A lot of people give this unit a bad review, but that’s probably because most reviews are given only when something goes wrong. So I guess it’s a problem for some with the over heating but it has not happened to me, and I use it for gaming, netflix and torrents, I bought used over a year ago and it says CISCO on the top and X2000 v2.0 on back. As far as having to reset the modem all the time, your problem is the keep-alive feature. In the DSL settings for PPPoE mode set it to dial every 30 sec or less. I have Qwest / Centurylink in Boulder Colorado at “7Mbps price for life” so I will never upgrade my speed (cause I only pay $14 a month for broadband). I am using ADSL2+ Has same google speed test rating with WPA2 on or off and the only drawback is the the Wi-Fi signal could be a little stronger but it’s strong enough to cover all of my little split level house. Now I get 7.5Mbps on ethernet and 7.3Mbps on Wi-Fi but I only ever got 7.1Mbps Ethernet & 6.1Mbps Wi-Fi with the Actiontec dsl modem with b/g Wi-Fi I had got from the telephone company 7 years ago.
Celso Jimenez Salcedo –
excellent
Tommy –
Problem is with the DSL Modem function. Works fine until some type of error causes the modem to disconnect. Once this happens you have to reboot the modem before the PPP connection will be reestablished. Once it is reconnected it works fine until it disconnects and hangs again. I have replaced it with a Netgear DSL/Router and so far I have not seen this problem resurface.
Raymond M.Schmitt –
This was easy to set up and much faster than the DSL Gateway my phone company issued me. BTW it does work on Windstream DSL.
Adam Wood –

Back when I had AT&T, this worked great and was easy to install and I used it as the combo modem-router. However, I moved and had to switch to Xfinity and could only use this as a router. Warning – it is not compatible. I spent two days and about two hours with Xfinity and Linksys support trying to figure out how to set it up.

I bought this router to replace an Actiontec GT784WN as I was having problems connecting thru a VPN. I finally did get it to work some of the time by changing the settings to low security, but would have to restart the connection process of couple of times to finally get it to work. But when going to another computer, I would have to reboot the router and repeat the process. Also, you would never know when the router would decide to kick you out. After much reading on the internet, and speaking to my work IT department, I discovered that VPN problems are common with actiontec, even after the firmware update I installed. So if you have to use VPN, would not reccommend the actiontec model, but it did seem to be good otherwise for routine residential internet use.Having purchased this router, VPN pass-thru works, with no problems, setup was very easy, you do not connect this thru an ethernet cable for setup, setup is all wireless. I have century link (formerly qwest) DSL, and this product has no problems with this DSL. You will need your DSL username and password, otherwise all settings were automatically placed by the x2000, including VPI and VCI. If using century link, click on qwest when prompted for your service provider. I was concerned as there is no external antenna, I placed the unit in the same location as the actiontec, which is about the center of my house, and have 3/5 bars at the most remote areas, this is the same range as the actiontec model, house is about 2600 sq foot, single level. So I am very satisfied with this router at this time. Since I have just set this up, I cannot comment on any heating problems and failures, but with three computers running, one with gaming, it is luke warm to touch. Incidently, its has many more options available, such as a guest password, and the ability to easily set up ports for gamers with its menu.I am updating this after owning the router for the past month. About 2 weeks after owning the router it began to intermittantly lose the wi fi connection, and it was neccessary to reboot the router to reconnect. During these lost wi fi times, I noticed the x2000 was becoming extremely hot. I thought this might have been a range issue as if it were losing the connection, it might be getting hot as it was searching and attempting to connect. So I purchased a range extender to see if this would correct the problem. Unfortunately it did not, so it appears that something in the hardware causes the router to overheat, and the overheating then causes the connection to be lost. The router became so hot that the bottom of the router became discolored. Since I was afraid the plastic could actually melt and catch fire, I have disconnected it and replaced it with the previous Actiontec GT784WN, I have been able to get the VPN to work on this by disabling the NAT and using low security, as I had mentioned previously. So I have to lower this rating to one star and would not recommend this wireless modem router. I can still use the cisco extender and seems to be working well.

Setup was a pain. After a couple of hours of floundering I had to call Cisco. After maybe half an hour we made some non default changes on the Cisco setup page. Things seemed to be going OK for a day or two and then I started getting modem dropouts. It would take a minute or two to reboot. My work entails real time interaction with other people. I can’t afford to lose my internet connection. Luckily most of the time these dropouts would occur in the evening or on weekends so it was a minor inconvenience. Then it happened during business hours. Unfortunately my 30 days return window was gone. I should have returned it immediately. I have since bought a Netgear DSL modem DM111PSP and use it with the router half of the Linksys. Things seem to be working pretty well. Instead of having one box I’m back to having 2.

From the moment that I plugged it in, it started working and it has been flawless ever since. It goes into auto set up and your computer automatically opens the set up window. You pick your own passwords and set up your security level. They make it really easy. The lights aren’t too bright so the activity monitor won’t keep you awake at night. I would buy it again but by the time I need one again there will be something even more kick ass than this one.

My old 2WIRE modem/router finally went down after about five years of use. During that time Qwest was bought out by CenturyLink, and customer service has really plummeted in my opinion. Desperate to avoid working with CenturyLink (and paying the fee for setup) we turned to the internet and found the Linksys X2000. Plenty of people have said how well it works, and I agree with them, so I’d rather direct this review at CenturyLink/Qwest customers.First, yes it does work with CenturyLink, despite not being a supposedly “supported router.” You can try using the CD to install, but I had to call CenturyLink and just ask for my DSL settings. If it isn’t obvious from the documentation just ask for the PPPoE username, the PPPoE password, the VPI, and the VCI. You can enter these values during CD installation process. Conveniently, the first sheet in the package has phone numbers for AT&T, Verizon, and CenturyLink. Signal strength has been good, and I like the added features such as the USB Key creator for getting other people on easily and the parental controls for automatically limiting internet use hours and restricting questionable sites. I will update this review if I have any failures like some of the others mentioned, but so far so good.

Tried getting this router to work for over 2 hrs before we finally called Cisco’s tech support, they wanted to charge us $60 to help us, after we told them their crazy and hung up we worked on it for another hour or so and finally got it sort of working. It seems like we have to unplug and plug it back in about 10 times a day. As soon as we find a new router and modem this piece of junk is going back, and SHAME ON YOU Cisco for charging your customers $60 for tech support!

The Linksys X2000 Wireless-N Router with ADSL2+ Modem is a brilliant product! The setup was simple and easy, the wireless features are not only convenient, but I have had absolutely no connection problems whatsoever. It works 10x better than my old modem & router combination because I always used to get kicked off the internet and had to reboot the thing at least once a week.I’m thrilled with my purchase so far, and if anything changes I’ll be sure to change the review, but with how good it’s been, I don’t anticipate any such problems.

Done just like the cd said. Router connected but Internet would not connect. Called support they wanted another $59.00 to configure my computer. (After spending over a hundred on router and modem.). Never had this problem with other brands. Guess I just throwed a hundred dollars to the wind. I’ll never buy anything else lynksys.

My favorite part is that it works as a DSL modem AND Wifi router in one unit, and cost me much less than buying low quality equipment from AT&T for more money.I’ve typically been apprehensive to use any more Linksys/Cisco routers since the old square blue and black ones that constantly drop wifi connectivity. However, this one has had total uptime. Its super easy to configure to use with AT&T DSL PPoE (which is typically a pain). All the config is done within the router, eliminating any need to use the AT&T disc or setup. Wifi configuration is secure, and more difficult to run WEP cracks on than standard wifi routers. Advanced WPA/WPA2 configurations available. The internal antenna range is mediocre, but works fine within my apartment. Overall, I am pleased with this router.

It was better than my older router. I really enjoy it. I am still learning some of the features for this product.

We have ATT DSL service. When our previously highly reliable 2WIRE modem/router gave up the ghost, I went to Best Buy and purchased the Linksys X2000 v. 2 as an emergency replacement. I used the automated Cisco software to configure the unit. This avoids having to manually select a large number of options in the rather complicated setup software that is accessed using a web browser to directly connect to the X2000. My Firmware Version is v2.0.01.When the X2000 is working, it seems to do the job quite well. However, every so often the router would lose WiFi connectivity. Either the connection would be dropped or the connection would remain but all traffic was blocked. Frustrating! Attempting to reconnect manually from a desktop or laptop wouldn’t work. It was necessary to power off and reboot the X2000 to restore WiFi connectivity. Most of the time all of devices (computers, cell phones, etc.) lost connectivity simultaneously although occasionally it seemed that only certain devices were affected. Note that there didn’t seem to be a problem with internet connectivity; this was a WiFi problem.I eventually called Cisco technical support. The good news is that it was relatively easy to reach a technician by online chat or via the telephone. (The telephone is recommended because a reboot of the X2000 will cause a loss of the chat if you are using the X2000 for connection to the internet.) However, the technician didn’t seem to have a good understanding of the technology but rather appeared to be following a script. Therefore, the route to the solution took much longer than it otherwise would have if the technician understood what was going on. Here is what was suggested to fix the problem:(1) In “Setup” (use URL 192.168.1.1; logon: username – admin; password – the password used in the initial setup), the first suggestion was to fix the “Standard Channel” in Wireless/Basic Wireless Settings to Channel 11 from Auto. (I assume that this is because Channel 11 is a little used channel.) This did not solve my problem and eventually it was suggested to change to Channel 9. So far, Channel 9 seems to be OK. However, I doubt that this was the solution to my freezing problem as channel interference should slow transmission but not cause a lockup that requires a reboot.(2) The automated setup chose “WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode” for Wireless Security. Tech support suggested “WPA2 Personal.” This seems to work. (I believe that this is the highest security.(3) Under “Applications & Gaming” in the QoS tab, tech support suggested “Disabled” for “WMM Support.” I am not sure what this is for but it may be to permit continuous streaming of data as opposed to bursty internet access. I don’t need streaming for internet TV, so having this off is OK. This may have been the solution to my problem.Note that WMM = Wi-Fi Multimedia. I have no idea why disabling this seems to have solved my problem. However, in researching, I note that WMM prioritizes data packets to give voice (VOIP) and video priority. It also features a “Power Save” certification to help small devices conserve battery life. Perhaps this was causing something to lock up.I hope my experience will be helpful to you. I was unable to find a record on the internet or on the Cisco forum of anyone who experienced a similar problem so I am writing this review to get the word out.Other than the dropped WiFi, the Linksys X2000 seems to be an inexpensive DSL modem/router solution that works well. I get an adequate strength WiFi signal from anywhere in my house and the internet connectivity seems speedy.ADDENDUM (September 5, 2012): Unfortunately, despite all the fixes, we are still experiencing occasional dropped WiFi. When this happens it is necessary to reboot the Linksys X2000 in order to regain connectivity. I called Cisco technical support yesterday and they said they would send a replacement unit. So far it hasn’t been received. I’ll update the review if the new unit corrects the problem.
