The modem itself works as advertised and I’m still glad I’m able to give back Century Link their modem/router and stop paying a lease on a sub par product. However, this Motorola modem/router did not solve one the issues I’ve had with my previous Century Link modem/router, and that is a bit disappointing. I had hoped the wireless signal and processing power of the built in router would make using remote play between my PS VIta and PS4 work properly, but its nearly worse than the previous setup. Also, the configuration and settings for this router offer a lot of options, but are poorly explained and kind of confusing to work with. Port forwarding is not as easily achieved as I would have expected and the settings in general should have more documentation. When I’m buying the router for over $100, I’d appreciate getting a manual that actual documents the features of the device.

Easy to set up, good range also runs several devices with out lag time. Good for games tv and security systems. I use this with Centurytel It will pay for its self in a year and comes with a two year warranty

Works great and is faster than our old modem. Wish we had better service in our area since we are having trouble getting modems that work for our service plan.

First, Thank you Motorola for making this modem, getting really hard to find quality ADSL replacements. Thank you Amazon, for selling it and shipping it lighting fast. On arrival, opened box plugged everything in it found DSL signal but no internet had to log into settings and change two settings to 8 and 35 instantly the internet light lit and has not dropped since. All wireless devices connected easily and has not lost connection, range is good for my place have wireless outside in front yard and back yard and all rooms . Easy to set up guest WiFi so you don’t have to give out your WiFi password and still have security settings for it . This will easily pay for itself the first year would recommend this to anyone with ADSL and are tired of paying a fee for subpar gear . This replaced a Netgear N600 that got took out by lightening. When logging into modem the quick start guide tells you to use SetupMyRouter .net when using that on a computer linked with ethernet kept going to some messed up site that wasn’t what I needed so do yourself a favor and use the numbers on bottom 192.168.x.x. that should do the trick, but the SetupMyRouter .net works everytime with wireless devices go figure that may help someone else I hope.

Bought this DSL modem/router to upgrade from the very old model that Frontier had provided. It was easy to set up and so far is working just fine. We have four people in the house using WiFi and gaming as well as using Netflix and computer. So far haven’t put it to the test with all four at home using devices but good with two users. DSL modems are almost impossible to find locally in stores so was very happy to find this Motorola model.

Absolute fastest & easiest set up ever using CenturyLink’s VDSL service. I followed the included Quick Setup Guide instructions and in less than 4 minutes (YES less than 4 minutes) I had internet service and WiFi setup. All I had to do was change the default WiFi password. The Motorola Setup Wizard did everything else! WiFi signal is very strong throughout our 2,000 sq ft, 2 storey house.

I’ve only had it for a few days but so far so good. Easy to set up. I used my smartphone and had zero issues. Our house is pretty small so WiFi signal is fine everywhere

Works great!

I was skeptical about purchasing this unit for my Verizon DSL service since the product description says this unit is not recommended for Verizon. ADSL routers are very hard to come by so I took the chance and I’m glad I did. The unit works great on my Verizon DSL service. I am finally getting the speeds I have been paying for. I see some reviews saying the unit worked right out of the box. That was not the case for me, I had to adjust some settings before I could get a connection. I initially plugged the unit in and hardwired it to my computer using an ethernet cable but my computer said it was connected with no internet. I switched back to my old router so I could go through the setup process. In the manual it tells you to go to a website to setup the connection but I couldn’t get that website to work for me. Instead I went to the ISP listed on the bottom of the new unit, looks like 192.168.x.x, I was able to set it up from there. If you’re replacing an old router I would also recommend that you go to the ISP listed on your old unit, again it should look like 192.168.x.x. You will need to know what settings your old router used in order to complete the setup on the new unit. Took a bit of clicking around in my old units setting page but all of the information you need to setup the new unit is there. Hope this helps.

works great

does not work well with ATT DSL. It took 10 minutes to pick up dsl signal when my old modem only took few seconds. also there was trouble with one of client pc connecting to server software. We did not have this problem with our old router….

This replaced an older Netgear router which had latest several years but finally started erroring out. I expected it to take a while to get this replacement Motorola configured because I have a AT&T Microcell peripheral, but in literally five to ten minutes, using the Wizard, it connected and was working flawlessly. The menu system is different, of course, but I have had no problems navigating it. I typically keep a Dr Cool fan on my routers, but since this one stands vertically, I thought it might not fit. I was pleased to find that I was able to clamp the fan to the back and cool the well ventilated grill on that side, so that was another plus. It has all four Ethernet ports lighted by separate LEDs, which is something I prefer, and the LEDs are somewhat muted so as to not be annoying.

I’m very happy with this modem/router combo. The device itself performs well, actually increasing the throughput on my terrible DSL connection beyond what the ISP-supplied device allowed. The firmware configuration options are extensive, and about all that could be hoped for with a DSL modem/router. Perhaps the best part of all is the extraordinary customer service/technical support. I had some questions about firmware updates and for help with some of the more arcane firmware options (of which there are several), and I promptly received thorough replies that demonstrated the representative read and understood my inquiry and that were written in actual English that made sense. Usually, when I contact support for any company these days, I receive a canned answer in pseudo-English that just tells me, “I didn’t read your inquiry and I don’t care; here’s a general response to shut you up.” Not with Motorola! I highly recommend this device if you are stuck with ADSL service like me (I live in a rural area), although it works with VDSL as well if you are lucky enough to have that option.Just a note, in case anyone else is wondering, since I was curious and asked about it. The excellent support representative explained that firmware updates will appear on the product page at Motorola’s site when they are available. They are not available yet (as of this writing) because the device itself is so new that they only have the one firmware version (that comes with the device). I was confused about whether I needed to get updates from my ISP or from Motorola, but the latter will supply them in the future. My only complaint is that it is a bit of a pain to turn on/off the 2.4 or 5 GHz WiFi radios from the firmware, as you have to dig through the firmware pages to get to the ones that respectively control each band. The buttons you see on the side of the device should have been on/off switches for the radios, in my opinion. Since nobody -should- be using WPS, those are two buttons that have been wasted. Other than that, this is a terrific device, and I highly recommend it if you have DSL Internet connectivity.

I have been using Frontier Phone access to the web through a DSL modem since 2010. we live in a remote area of CA that does not have Cable TV so we have to depend on Streaming video and Satellite TV for our home entertainment. I use the web in my business as well to communicate with clients and for banking. Sometimes I need to send large files over the internet to clients. With our internet service Frontier advertises a band width of a maximum of just over 6KBPS wich proves to be available quite often. However my test software has regularly registered speeds less than 0.5KBPS which does not support streaming video. On occasion I have experienced such slow speeds and rebooted my old modem and immediately experienced acceptable web speeds sometimes back to the neighborhood of 6K in my tests. I purchased this new Motorola DSL modem because I find that the old one does not support the new security protocols on the web (long encryption technology) and because I do not trust the firmware of the old modem. I ran into a problem trying to log on to Frontier because they use a User address in their system with 34 characters and my modem software only allowed me to enter 31 characters. I contacted Motorola and described my problem on Saturdy and received confirmation of my emai on Monday. On Tuesday they sent me an address to obtain new firmware for my modem. I installed the new firmware and now my modem is working just fine. Right now I am experiencing download speeds of about 5.9KBPS which are well in the range of making me happy. Now I know some of the folks out there with Cable modems would be appalled at those kinds of speeds because they are spoiled by living in an area where truly high speed networks are commonplace; but here in little old Shingletown CA this is great.

Working fine

FRONTIER USERS: Yes, it works. See Eugene’s review (July 2018) for specifics, but basically you download a firmware/software update from Motorola to accommodate the overly long Frontier DSL username, and then the set-up is totally easy, and the router works better than what we were renting from Frontier (Netgear 7550).Just installed this router today after running the router update. I will try to remember to update my review after 3-4 months with some notes about usage and connectivity.

It was just the modem I needed, the box came really fast. Thank you for the great price and good service.

Very good item. Hook up easily and had internet almost instantly. Used to replace Centurylink unit.
David Morris –
Bought for use with Frontier, easy set up, had it up and running in about 10 minutes. Works as expected.
Customer –
This is a ADSL modem for my crappy Centurylink service. This modem is the bomb. Of course it’s not approved by them. Lol. Much better than the crap they approve.

I bought this on the strength of other reviews saying it worked with CenturyLink Wifi. I have the Dish Network but they use CL’s Wifi. I couldn’t get it set up on my own. At first, I called Motorola to get their help and got a recording that my wait would be 47 minutes!! C’mon Motorola, hire more people! So, I then called Dish and found out that was the only call I needed to make to get this set up, thank God. Dish walked me through the whole set up, it took awhile but worth it. I didn’t need to call Motorola and in fact, Dish had specific code #s I needed to set it up.I had gone from slow internet speed to a higher speed and my old Dish modem couldn’t get the signal. So I researched because it’s murder to fine a compatible modem that is VDSL and works with CL. I had called Actiontec, the modem supplier for CL, and they said none of their new modems work with VDSL. This Motorola product works great. PS-Best Buy told me they do not have any modems that work with CL.I said on the website they show 4. The tech at BB said they are all being returned because they aren’t compatible with CL.

It says all over the package century link compatible but it is only ADSL not VDSL compatible. Bought it to save the monthly fee and worked the first day on A but soon as they switched me it stopped and was on their NOT compatible list for VDSL in tech support.

Modem arrived quick and works excellent. Couldn’t be more happy. Was having problems with my Zyxell modem & decided to give this one a shot. Plugged it in & it works perfectly.
Dede –
This product is doing everything I wanted. I would recommend it.
Vicden –
I bought this after I was told by CenturyLink that I could purchase my own router, this matches the specs I was given perfectly, it configured internally just fine but would not connect to CL. After 2 hours on the phone I was finally told that they would not support it, and that I would have to buy from them. It’s a nice router, I’m taking one star since I have to pay $14 for return shipping.
JWID –
Decent range for wi-fi. Stays connected on Centurylink internet better than the previous Actiontec modem did.
Lee Butler –
Going back for a refund. After 3 calls with Frontier Tech Support and a phone call with Motorola, this modem would never work on Frontier VDSL. It also limits a WiFi network to 16 connections max which just won’t work for a business environment.
crawford69 –
The modem/router works fine. The only problem was that the two screws that were supposed to be in the back of it were loose in the box and the front was partially popped off. I popped it back together and put the two screws in the back. It was advertised as new, but with these things happening, I believe it was not new.
