Decent modem/router for smaller, more open residences. Worked great for 2 years, then started to have issues with it when it had walls and appliances to send a WiFi signal through. You’d probably be better off getting the modem-only version of this and a good router.

Great product.Fast shipping
FloridaLady –

This review is for the Motorola Surfboard SB6120 modem. This modem was one of the best modems I’ve ever owned (only topped by the newest model in my opinion)I used this modem for about 6 years and got blazing fast speeds from it.Not once did I have an issue that was attributed to the modem (but as for the provider…TWC that’s another story)I highly recommend no only this particular modem (yes, still) but also this brand of modems. They provide the best, fastest, most reliable modems on the market IMO.
J. Wates –
5 years and still kicking. I’ve since upgraded but I gave this one to my father and he loves it. Way better than anything you could get from comcast.
Benjamin –
Worked well for the past two years and shows no hiccups or signs of stopping. I would expect to stick with SURFboards in future as technology shifts.
Customer –
This has been a reliable workhorse in our household, no issues.

Lev Zeldin –
It works just fine
Ashley –
It works great! I got mine used. I had no issues hooking it up and my Internet connection seems to be pretty stable. It was also a great price. I would highly recommend if you don’t want to spend a lot of money getting one through your cable company, to get this used. You will save a lot of money. I’m not sure about all cable companies but for Time Warner this was one of the few that they approve of to use Internet through their service.

Once connected it said there wasn’t much life left in it.
Customer –
This product was very nice. Thank you
A. Jackson –

I have had this modem since 2009. Lived in 5 different places. Worked great at every location. Xfininty/Comcast supposedly don’t support this modem anymore but mine still works.
Terrence –
I have been suing this thing for a few years now and the product’s technology is still compatible with some of the newer modems and routers on the market.

Works great if you have cable for a very long time they will pay for themselves.
Ed –
I bought this thing in September of 2010 (6+ yrs) . It’s still going strong and works just as well as the newest tech. I was looking into getting a new just because of its age but did a little research and decided there really was no need to replace it.
Bruce –
Done
Joseph Casioppo –
Worked well for a few years, then it quit. I expected longer life from it.
TheOne –
Unfortunately I could not use this cable modem do to none compatibility with my local cable company! I had to return it. Return was easy and very friendly. I am happy about that! Thank You!
Will St Germaine –
Comcast will not support this modem anymore. They have added it to the end of life list and force you to upgrade. I wish I could upgrade my internet service…We don’t have much for options in my neighborhood.
Paul Andrew Anderson –
Thought this deserved a review after so long, though a newer version is out and seems good too. I’ve been on the 25mbps plan few a few years now, and this workhorse keeps streams buffer-free. You can catch the Xfinity Approved Cable Modems List 2017 at the Approved Modems website (DOCSIS 3.0 currently), and read this review to see how to get all the services you’d need on the 25mbps Xfinity plan: https://smile.amazon.com/review/R1DWANZGRZT3ZB

I’ve owned the same modem–in its Arris SB6121 formulation (they made this one under license with Motorola as well)–for years. These are both 4×4 (download/upload Docis 3.0 channels). They are all one needs for 100mbs+ download service. (I’m skeptical of claims of 150mbs, but 120mbs+ should be easily and consistently achievable, with the corresponding cable internet service package. But nobody should be buying this item new anymore. First, Comcast (and soon perhaps others) are sketchy about “provisioning” it (aka, setting up to work) on their networks. They’ve “grandfathered” those of us who have them–but some of their customer service reps are confused about this. I was having a problem with my Comcast internet service delivering pathetic speeds (10 times lower than my plan), and was fortunate enough to “chat” with a competent tech who managed to get my SB6121 set up to operate consistently and reliably at 90mbs/down/12mbs up (which is faster than my plan!). But even he suggested I start looking around for another modem “in a few months” since this one may not be replaceable on their system.Besides, you can get a much better, twice as fast, 8×4 Zoom model 5340 for half the price of this one! Zoom 8×4 Cable Modem, 343 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0, Model 5345. It has a 4.5 user rating. BTW, Zoom now has the Motorola license and builds their modems . . . If you’re really trying to stretch a buck, buy a USED one of these (or the SB6121, which are available all over the place, including here, for like $20). That way, if you cannot get your ISP to provision it, you’re not out too much dough.
S. Muratov –
Was working well.
Tami Brown –
The best modem that I had bought. Bought it 5 years back and it is still working solid.
Gamer –
When it was deployed (years ago), a tech at the ISP told me I needed to purchase a higher speed connection because of the 50mbps throughput. I didn’t and it’s still working great.
Kojak –
Lasted only til late 2016
brenda k. –
The best surf board you can buy for Comcast
Yani L Brankov –
With Comcast it pays off in 3 months.
David James –
I no longer own this, but it was a great modem. Fast and reliable

I’ve owned this modem for 6 years now and it’s worked great! While Xfinity/Comcast still isn’t providing me with speeds as fast as the modem can handle, they keep increasing my service speed and the modem takes it. I’m up to 70Mbps.However, I’m not sure who to believe on this one… Every couple of years Xfinity/Comcast pops up and tells me that they’ve been “forgetting” to charge me the modem rental fee for the equipment that I own, and I have to spend an hour or two on the phone to try to ensure that they aren’t going to bill me for my own equipment. Tonight was another such ordeal, but at the end of this call the technician told me that the reason their system kept trying to bill me is that the this modem somehow identifies itself as a rental. Maybe mine came from the same batch of hardware that Comcast purchased years ago. *shrug* However it’s happening, that’s what Comcast is claiming now. Their suggestion: buy a new modem. Since I’m happy with my SB6120 and unhappy with Comcast’s inability to correct this issue on their end (even after providing them with all the documentation necessary on multiple occasions) I think I’ll be switching ISPs soon.Great piece of equipment, but if you have Xfinity/Comcast as a service provider their is the possibility of this kind of snag occurring. I highly recommend the modem, I don’t recommend using with Xfinity/Comcast.
BB123 –
I saved a ton of money buying this modem. I get very fast internet now. no complaints at all. It does what it is supposed to do. I have had it for over a year now and it has more than paid for itself vs renting it from TWC/Spectrum
Isaac –
Very fast and useful, a lot better then PoS 3 in 1 modem
B-A-R –
This modem consistently gets me over 240MPS on Comcast. Sick!
Max –
Purchased this guy end of 2010 and it still working great! I recently downgraded my service from 100Mbps to 50Mbps with Comcast and the Comcast rep told me these modems have been known to cause fires and I had to get a new one because he said the modem wouldn’t work with Comcast Internet anymore. I rejected his claims and downgraded my service and what do you know still works like a charm! Don’t believe the snakes at Comcast. This modem works great!
StratMan –
Has worked without problems for several years with our Comcast cable.
J P Hart –
This was great and has served me very well for a few years, however I recently found out that Comcast no longer supports this device and I can only get 20Mb/s download speeds even though I am on their Blast tier of 200MB/s download speed.
Art Love –
Was delivered on time and after calling the ISP was up and running in a matter of a few minutes. No issues
mcdull –
Purchased in 2011 and be using it for 6 years until I switched service.Don’t get into the sale trap that you need a new and faster cable modem.Netflix 4K video is only 15Mbps (way less than standard Blu-ray) and much less bitrate required for youtube and other video content. Unless you need to constantly download GBs of files over Internet or watching over 8 4K videos at the same time, you don’t need any faster cable modem or faster service which is just marketing strategy
D. Klobe –
Bought this unit from Frys Electronics back in 2009! Never had any problems with Cox Internet. Still going strong and supports all of our high demand internet needs. Impressive since I have done nothing to it in 8 years!Feb 2018 Update: Went to Fry’s Electronics and talked to one of the employees about a new modem. The more he talked the more I convinced myself that I do not need a new one. This modem is still running strong after 9 years! I figure that I do not need to even think about replacing it unless I need more than 150 bps download, or Cox doesn’t allow it anymore, or Cox installs fiber cable. Works excellent for my family!
Victor Estrada –
Has been working non stop at a 150mbps connection for years now, highly recommended.
B. Sarsfield –
I had this modem for 5-6 years. This WAS the best on the market. Never failed. Rock solid. The 3.0 DOCSIS technology has been replaced with 3.1 on many networks.Time to move on! NETGEAR DOCSIS 3.1 Ultra-High Speed Gigabit Cable Modem. Max download speeds of 1.0 Gbps – Certified for XFINITY by Comcast and Cox (CM1000-1AZNAS) is the next king of the cable modem hill. What does DOCSIS 3.0 vs DOCSIS 3.1 mean? Real world; upto 2x faster (2x throughput and 2x decrease in latency).
Lori Judkins –
Fine
A. Fonseca –
No issues
Robert B English –
Mine works great. And it fun not to give rent money to Comcast. I have had no problems.
tmoz –
I have used this with Comcast for a long time. Never had any issues with it. Now that I am going past 100Mbps, I need to upgrade. Sad to see it go!
V. M. –
Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme Broadband Cable ModemHas worked flawlessly for years.
Trung Vu –
Good price.
Joel Hammer –
I just got it. Hooked it up and called comcast and it is working with no hassle.Comcast was very efficient. Whole thing took about 20 minutes from opening the package to being online. The only nuisance was I use linux. I rebooted into windows and tried to run the setup wizard but that did nothing and does nothing.Linux wasn’t the problem. It was booting into windows for no reason which was the nuisance. You don’t need windows to run this thing. All you need to do is read the userguide which is easy to find on the CD.ONE WARNING: The comcast guy told me the biggest problem they have is that the MAC on “mail order” modems are sometimes not unique and/or are in use by somebody else in their system.I dunno if that is true. Just passing it along.

works great
