Replaced my older DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem with this one – what a difference! Download speed is over twice as fast now – caps out at 3 MB/s download for files. I have Cox Premier service, so I was under-utilizing my service capabilities using my old SB5101 modem. You definitely need DOCSIS 3.0 if you are paying for higher plans from your ISP.

I have Cox in Phoenix, AZ. I use their Premier (27 Mbps) it is one step below the “ultimate” and requires the “stream combining” to reach the advertised speeds. I was dubious that it would make much of an impact. I run this in to a Apple AirPort Express Base Station (MC414LL/A) and the results were suprising. I ran a test over wifi with my iphone using the speedtest app. On the old modem I got about 20 Mbps down and it says about 30 Mbps up (I think upload is way off for whatever reason), ping was about 70ms. AFTER the install of this modem I saw about 30 Mbps down and 45 up, Ping dropped to about 35ms. This is all annecdotal and based on wifi and an iphone app, but I did notice a much quicker response on all items connected. Xbox, Roku, iPad, all loaded faster and i have been killing it on Call of Duty: Black Ops II!Great upgrade, I uploaded a screenshot of the app with the speed results.**********Edit, the lights on this unit arent the best looking not subtle like the apple router. The plastic covering them is not clear and crisp so they kind of bleed a milky bright light through and there is an orange light that blinks largely and brightly. Fix by turning the unit or cover it with tape.

I purchased this MOTOROLA SB6141 SURFboard modem after receiving a notice from Comcast that I should upgrade my modem to DOCSIS 3.0. I purchased this more expensive white color one instead of the less expensive black color one (of the same model number) after hearing that some black ones were not really new, but had been used by carriers.Anyway, this modem works for Comcast. Activation took about ten minutes with a call to 877-266-2678 (Comcast tech support). With my five-year-old DOCSIS 2.0 RCA modem, Speedtest.net test reported 16.4 Mbps download speed, 0.21 Mbps upload. With this new DOCSIS 3.0 modem, the download speed has been doubled to 38.77 Mbps (but the upload speed is the same).Update (one week later): the modem still works well, never stopping or flipping. The download speed tested via Speedtest.net and via a wired connection is still pretty good, ranging between 30 (5-10-2013) to 40 Mbps (5-9-2013). The upload speed, though, remains 0.21 Mbps on each testing. One user asks if he can use this modem with Comcast phone service. I think not. I believe that will require a different modem with telephony. Check Comcast site for the devices with phone feature: […]. Personally, I use Ooma gadget (Amazon also carries it) to work along with this modem. Other modems will also work with Ooma. As long as you have the Internet working, Ooma will get you all the phone features you want at a much lower rate (basic rate is less than $10). I have been using Ooma for five years now, and it works well.2nd Update (after speaking to Comcast tech): As my low upload speed (0.21 Mbps) caused my outgoing email with attachment to halt a long time, I gave Comcast support a call. They manually entered my MAC ID into their system, and had me reboot the modem AND the router. That really made a big difference, I am getting a download speed of close to 50 Mpbs, and an upload speed of 11 Mbps (vs 0.21 Mbps). Big help from the Comcast tech! (My Comcast Internet service is “Blast” or “Performance”, with “Powerboost”.) So all is really good now.3rd update (one month): the modem still works without any issues. Speedtest.net tests reported download speeds around 60 (Mbps), but upload speeds ranged from 11 (5-12-2013) to 0.97 (6-1-2013), even after powering off and on both the modem and the router. I assume that it was the carrier (Comcast) who is to blame, not the SB6141 modem.4th update (almost two years after the purchase): For about five months now, I am enjoying a super fast download speed of over 120 Mbps and an upload speed of over 12 Mpbs. With the same modem, same carrier (Comcast). Comcast has upgraded their speed in certain areas, and I received a notice to that affect. I only needed to reboot my modem once, and instantly saw my download speed jumped from 50 Mbps to over 120 Mbps.

Frustrated with the Netgear modem provided by Cox, I bought the ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard cable modem (model SB6141) and the ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router… I did quite a bit of research, looking on various networking boards, etc.I went from 40-50 Mb/s to 123 Mb/s (download speed) — and that’s on a MacBook with Wifi. Pricey combination, but I’m already paying Cox $99/mo anyway. Totally blown away. The difference is night and day.Web pages come up instantly. No lag. Uploading to my websites via FTP (Mac Transmit App) is breathtaking.) I have 11 devices hooked up to my Cox Ultimate broadband connection…. 5 of them are slave machines that do various tasks for my biz, the others are iPads, some PC’s, and a MacBook, plus an Apple TV and a Netflix-built-in TV and I have them all streaming at the same time. Couldn’t do it with the crappy Netgear modem provided by Cox.Love Cox speed, but obviously their hardware sucks. If you’re on Cox, then I highly recommend getting the Motorola Surfboard SB6141 and the ASUS RT-AC66U Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router…Totally easy to configure. Just one call to Cox to relay the SN and Mac address and I was up and running. Still totally amazed at the speed. It’s just mind-boggling. Again, a pricey combination, but was truly frustrated with Cox’s Netgear gateway/modem/router — totally crappy, lots of lag.THIS combo is much better. Again Asus + Motorola = Pure Speed.

If you hate how your internet provider charges you a modem lease fee for their crappy secondhand modem, this will be the perfect investment. It used to cost me $6/mo. to lease a weak, ugly, clunky modem from Time Warner, but for $80 flat this SurfBoard will not only pay for itself in 14 months but it also provides terrific, reliable internet in a nice little package. The setup couldn’t be easier. There’s a cable input, ethernet port, and a power jack. Plug in all three, connect the ethernet to your router, and it’s good to go.I have a Time Capsule, and it’s almost as if the SurfBoard was made for it. In terms of seamless installation and sleek looks, both go great together. The modem is surprisingly light and has a very small footprint compared to the ugly, bulky ones I’m used to.If Apple made their own modem, I imagine it would perform and look just like the SurfBoard.

I purchased this modem after I got sick of the 5.00 US$ extra monthly fee Time Warner was charging me for their lousy RCA modem circa the Stone Age. I had read the reviews about the ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and I was not disappointed.. I live in the Manhattan area and have Time Warner Cable. My internet had always been slow, so would have been happy with maintaining the current speed or getting a modest speed increase. Well, after setting up the modem and calling Time Warner customer service to activate it, I was stunned at the amazing speed increase…dare I say “blazing” (compared to what I had before). I am now experiencing 3-4 x the speed when surfing the internet. It’s as if I upgraded my computer. I am overjoyed and would recommend everyone buy this modem and STOP PAYING TIME WARNER rental fees for inferior products. YOU DO NOT GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Set up was painless (I have a macbook pro and use an Apple router.

I bought this a year ago. It has been working flawlessly. I have Comcast Cable. It connects easily to the high speed internet. I have all the blue LED lights showing on this meaning it is getting the high speeds. I have it connected to an Apple Airport Extreme router. The two of them together work great. If my power goes out or I have to unplug everything for some reason it boots up fast and I am back in business again within a minute or less. No complaints. The LED lighting is bright though. I had to put some dimmer tape across the front panel. I can still see all the lights but they aren’t blindingly bright anymore with the dim tape on it. Solid modem.9/20/15 update – still running perfectly for over 2 years with no problems encountered.11/12/16 update – nearly 3.5 years of continuous reliable performance.

This IS a Great modem but it is NOT as described here. This Motorola SB6141 is Not in Retail Packaging as claimed. At best, this is an older OEM Motorola version (pre Arris) with a one year warranty (not 3 yrs). No User Guide/Manual, & not sealed in a plastic bag (no bag at all). Plain cardboard box with packing in poor (ripped) condition. Looks more like a refurbished or returned unit, but it still works fine.

It stopped working after 10 days. Not good.

Purchased this router, along with the ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. My review is the same for both items:We purchased these for use with our internet service in the boonies of Minnesota. We honestly couldn’t be happier. We were using the supplied equipment with our last internet/cable provider and the service was horrible. Decided to use our own equipment when we moved and had to switch companies, and I am very happy we did so. We made sure these items were supported by our carrier before purchasing.I work from home, and everything I do is web-based. So I needed equipment that would give me reliable down and upload speeds. These two items do the trick. We have a lot of things constantly connected and never lose speed or service. We have 1 desktop (wired), 1 laptop, 2-3 smart phones, and often 1-2 tablets and 1 other laptop connected wirelessly without any issues. With the rented equipment, we were power cycling our modem daily with little help. Now, after 2 months of use, we have yet to have an issue where we needed to power cycle – and as I said, I work from home so reliability is essential. The technician set up both the modem and router out of the box with no issue. There are two channels set up for wireless, one for short range and one longer range. We haven’t noticed a remarkable difference between the two just when inside the house, but it will be nice to have the longer range once the weather warms up, and I work on the patio. Overall I am glad we did some research to find these, as its definitely money well spent.

Works very well. Easy to set up. I had to call Comcast (my Internet Service Provider) and they activated the modem to my account with them. Although there was in the beginning some kind of conflict between modem and my router, the Comcast tech got everything to work. I’ve had no problems since then. I recommend this cable modem without hesitation.
Dubtech Labs –
If you have cable internet, you’re going to need a good cable modem. This one is not the cheapest, but it is FAST, and relatively future-proof.I added a picture of the modem packaging to this review, which shows the comparison of all similar Motorola cable modems. But most people will simply be deciding between the SB6121 (which is about 25% cheaper) and this SB6141.There are other models that include router functionality & wi-fi. I would personally recommend this SB6141 above all of them. The 6121 is an older model that still will work great, but as internet speeds pick up, it will inevitably introduce a speed bottleneck at some point. The 6141 is cable of double the speed. The integrated router models are simply not a good idea because it’s better to have two devices that work great for their purpose, rather than one “convenient” device that does everything “okay”. I switched from a modem+router combo and do not miss it at all. I paired this with a Netgear Nighthawk which is an amazingly fast and capable combo. The modem’s web interface is decent, though there isn’t a lot to see or do there. You can browse to 192.168.100.1 by default to access it and view signal strength, some data/logs for troubleshooting, and remotely reboot the modem. The package includes the modem, documentation, and power cable. It does *not* include a coaxial cable, so make sure you have one available prior to setting up your modem.*SUMMARY*Pros:[+] FAST (DOCSIS 3.0), easily exceeds the advertised speeds on my 105 megabit cable connection (see attached speedtest image)[+] Easy set-up and administration[+] Looks and feels very high quality[+] Has holes on the side in case you want to mount it[+] Very future-proof compared to other modems[+] Quick boot time[+] Reliable, doesn’t ever cut out or require reboots, with solid brand-name backingCons:[-] Does not include coaxial cable[-] Would prefer mounting holes on both sides of the modem exteriorSo overall, a very solid purchase. The only pain is depending on your provider, you may need to call in and have them authorize your new modem before it can connect. Once that’s done, you’re good to go!

I’m using this instead of the questionable combo router rented by SuddenLink (Northern California). This modem connects directly to my Apple AirPort Time Capsule (4th Generation). I did indeed have to inform SuddenLink that I have a new modem, which I did over the phone. After a month of operation, I felt like it was a keeper, so I dropped off the rental, which lowered my monthly internet bill.I went from having to restart the rental every day to never having to do any restarts using this product. It also seems like my download speeds have increased as well.
Father Of Two –
Comcast sent me a few notices stating that my 3-year-old cable modem (Motorola SurfBoard SB5101U) was outdated and unable to maintain the download speed that my subscription entitled me to. Knowing Comcast’s reputation issues, I was more than a little skeptical. After their rep gave me a sensible explanation, and I saw that the links from Comcast’s website pointed to third-party vendors for purchasing the modem, I started researching compatible options on Amazon. Based on other reviews of the SurfBoard SB6141, I decided to make the replacement purchase, but kept my existing Belkin N750 N+ Router. Here is what I have noticed since the replacement:- According to many tests over several weeks on Speedtest.net, my download speeds have more than doubled, from 25 Mbps to over 50 Mbps.- The signal appears much more consistent. The previous modem required frequent manual reboots, sometimes every few days, or if the system was taxed by multiple users. So far, after a month of heavy use across multiple access points, not a single reboot has been needed.- Multiple access points get seamless access. The previous modem would give spotty performance when video streaming from more than one access point, and frequently buckled under this burden. Since replacement, we have simultaneously had movies streaming in three locations and radio streaming from another – all giving seamless, uninterrupted transmission.Whereas before I was careful about managing downloads across devices, with this new modem I throw caution to the wind. After a month of heavy use, this device has delivered powerful, seamless, multichannel performance. I couldn’t be happier!
Dan –
What a great little modem! It does exactly what I want it to with no monthly charges by CrudCa$t. It’s about a third the size of the monster that I was told I would have to have. Well, I don’t need that monster from cable as I do not need their Wi-Fi (have an awesome Asus RT-66U, a year or so old but still rocks) or telephony hook-up (went with the O company, works great for me).The unit was ready in about 10 minutes including a 5 minutes firmware download from cable (at least that’s what was on the screen). All I had to do was log in my cable account and it was detected and updated quick. NO CALLS to cable, yippee! I guess I will have to give one to the cable guys for getting on the ball on activation. The unit is as fast if not a bit faster than cable Co unit but have only tested 2X at same time of day, not enough to give true data on speed in my view. Ping 19ms (about 4 ms higher), DL 59.62 Mbps, UL 6.10 Mbps to Bothell WA. about a 50 mile trip by line.

Purchased to replace a leased modem/Wireless Gateway from Comcast. Excellent product. No issues with set up. Verified with Comcast/Xfinity service. Pays for itself in no time if you’ve got a Router sitting around the house. The blue LED lighting is aggressive when the house lights are low but it has sufficient mounting options on the side that would allow you to mount it upside down on a wall..etc to hide the lights depending on your set up.
Josh H –
After looking around for modems for awhile, I finally broke down an purchased this beauty. I opened the un sealed box and connected, after a little fiasco from TWC, it worked like a charm. This thing is blazing fast, couldn’t be happier. The lights are a little much though!
PBeeZ –
This is a great modem! I read the reviews and saw all of them were very highly rated! its extremely easy to set up! Literally took 7 minutes to open out the box set up and start using! Most of the time spent was opening the box!!! If there is a negative the lights are really bright so I wouldn’t have this in my room. It’s perfectly fine in my living area.
R. Smith –
Works perfectly and even gets me 3 MBPS more than the 30 MBPS in my TWC internet plan. Although the internet service works great, the upload and download icon lights are solid blue (instead of green), the world icon is dark and the bottom icon is flashing blue. Maybe because the modem is connected to my router instead of a computer?…
Biomortis –
Solid stability, excellent status screen allowing you to troubleshoot when signal strength is an issue. Works great with Comcast and Wide Open West. No issues with IPv6 on Comcast. WoW has not implemented IPv6 yet so IPv4 only there. On Comcast, currently at 20 days uptime with no performance issues on a 50/10 business package and testing at 48.8/9.7 at 2:30 on a Monday afternoon. At off peak hours, I have hit 56/12. Make sure it has adequate air flow as it is passively cooled. A fan is not needed but it can will overheat if surrounded by clutter.Regarding cable modem service, results pictured are from Comcast service. I have excellent signal strength and actually had to pad it down, which is ISP related, not the SB6141. I also have a cable line surge protector on it as there have been lightning strikes in the area. This has not affected my service in anyway, either in speed, latency or connectivity. I believe those that do have issues have a borderline signal strength and the protector drops it to below acceptable levels.

This modem installed easily and is very fast. So, what is the problem then?Blinding and I mean BLINDING blue lights on the front. When we turn our lights down/off in the evening our living room looks like a night club with blue and flashing orange lights, and walking by casts shadows on the walls. Very disturbing and hard on the eyes. :(As described here: http://texyt.com/bright+blue+leds+annoyance+health+risksSee this photo, an Apple express is to the left. This modem is to the right, note even the reflection off a piece of wood is incredibly bright. I have to keep it covered with several layers of masking tape, but that still isn’t enough.

Best modem out there according to The Wirecutter. No Comcast rental fees!
ProdCaliTv –
I love this product but yesterday this started I can’t even get online.. and I wish that I didn’t waist money or at least have support answer me so I can try to get a new modem sent to me.. 🙁 but Comcast came and checked and rewired everything to legitimately check there side thinking it was them… But there side was all good test modem checked out as well…. If anyone had this problem let me know so I can dress this to them or try something. Basically the activity would stop and then all the blue likes (Normal) would then vanish and only the power button would turn green.. and can’t figure it out.. btw it will work for like 10 seconds then turn off.=====================================Updated – I did like the Support. They are sending me a new modem and sending them back the old one.. even though it was a month old.. They sent me the wrong modem the first time around but they are paying and fast shipping the right modem to me so make sure if you ever get something sent from them double check the model number…Otherwise this is still a good product and 2 year warranty can’t complain much more then what I have already about my modem turning off and on by it self etc..
Tim Jenson –
Our current setup which is working perfectly is an Motorola/Arris 6141 Modem, Apple Extreme Wifi Base Station and Comcast’s Home Security Router which is a Netgear. The Netgear is attached to the the Apple Extreme, and Apple Extreme is connected directly to the modem. We were told first that this wouldn’t work that we needed their combo TG862G/CT for it to work properly. That simply didn’t make sense. Then once we installed the 6141 our speed dropped which they said was because of the Home Security Router being plugged into the Apple Extreme. We asked them to explain why that was the case. Their explanations were unsatisfactory. The 6141 is just as capable as the combo modem we had and the Apple Extreme is just as capable as a router as the router in their modem. All is now working perfectly we are getting the same speeds we had before the Home Security system is working properly and we’re grateful that we no longer have to talk to Comcast Support.

Ok I have Knology out here in grovetown aha and was renting a modem from them. They have bad service and the highest they offered in my area was 4MB/Sec.I figured I’d get a new modem instead of leasing from them especially when I looked up the old as dirt modem they are leasing me on here and saw people complaining just like me and it had 3 stars. So I bought this modem along with white wifi router that is recommended and I’m impressed.I have less internet issues and I did the internet speed test websites and they say my download speed it 18-24mb a second and when I check my connection speed on my Xbox one or PS3 it tells me 24-34mb a sec so I’m ecstatic that the headache is gone
Jerry –
I love this modem. It’s very simple and works at amazing speeds. I mounted it on the wall behind my TV. Thank you arris.
Hardy J Ulmet –
Just got this installed. I will try to come back and add to this review after I have it running a few months. I honestly only bought my own modem because I was tired of the $7/month charge for the one the cable company had given me. I expected some increase in speed, but this was great. The image shows my before (top) and after (bottom) and was taken during the first 15 minutes before they applied the throttle for my tier of service. Since that throttle has hit though I am consistently at the 60MBPS rate that I pay for finally. Very satisfied with the initial performance.

This modem works fine technically, but boy let me tell you about the LED lights. It’s the most obnoxious blue I’ve ever seen. I put electrical tape over the indicators on the front, but the still prominently bleeds out through the ventilation holes that are on almost all sides of the case. My case is white, and even it seems to reflect the light out into the room. With all of the lights off, this modem shines like a beacon, like it’s trying to guide in a 747 for landing or something. Why do manufacturers use these annoying colors with obnoxious brightness? A subtle light would be just fine. My modem has now been banished to the hole behind my TV stand. If I could cover the whole thing in electrical tape, I would, but I’m afraid it would overheat. For a device that is going to sit on a desk, or a stand, or a table for the majority of its life, this is a stupid design choice, and I cannot recommend to anyone this device. I’m function over form 99% of the time, but these LEDs were the straw that finally pushed me over the edge. I’m so annoyed by them that I’m mixing metaphors.

YO!!!!!! I’m so excited right now. For years with Comcast/Xfinity I have been complaining that my rented Comcast modem was not getting me the 25-30 MBPS they stated i’d receive. I never got over 7MBPS. I just setup this ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 modem and BOOM!!!!!! 30.5 MBPS!!!! This Modem is Wonderful!!!!

Modem works fine but Time Warner Cable can only use 100 MBps download and 10 Mbps upload due to the 8 down and 4 up channels it has, not the 200 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload my current plan includes and can’t change as they will charge me more. They told me I would have to get a modem with 16 down and 8 up channels for it to get the 200/20 Mbps reliably. They cap my modem at 100/10 because they says its not reliable. So I would be more careful when buying modems for speeds above 100 Mbps.My 2 cents.

This modem works well and does modem things as a modem should. That said, it is covered in blue blinking lights and with the white plastic and side perforations the whole thing seems to glow blue. It makes my living room look like a rave. Maybe you like that kind of thing? I don’t. At first I hid it in a desk drawer, then put it in a box, but it heats up in there. I’d try electrical tape, but it would still glow out the sides. Probably buying a new modem even though this works fine.

I am the time of person that tent to wait for some technology to go lower on price. I also like to save money. I owned an old RCA MODEM purchased on eBay for 20$ that I used many many years and didn’t have to pay $5 each month on equipment rental. But I decided to get this new Motorola Arris because I was limited the speed. The modem world like a charm and now I have speed to it full potential. It was so easy to install, plug and play! I recommend!

Great modem for boosting your internet speeds. We have Comcast (unfortunately), and we were paying $10/month for a two in one modem-wifi router that gave us about 22 Mbps on a good day. We have a 75mbps plan with them. This modem (along with the TP-LINK C7 AC1750 router) is now giving us more than 75 Mbps — still don’t know how that’s possible but I’m not complaining.I did run into an issue activating it however, but I’m to believe Comcast is to blame. The modem we received was activated elsewhere (said by Comcast) which is why I couldn’t self activate it. They to take it into a local Comcast store (30 minutes away) to have it deactivated. I called again before I left to be extra sure it would be fixed and I didn’t waste time and gas. If this happens to you, DONT GO TO THE STORE. They told me I should call a representative. I called again and after getting told this modem isn’t a Comcast verified modem, I went off and guess what: they magically fixed it over the phone. Worst people ever I swear.I attached a screenshot of my speed scores (from my iPad might I add, while streaming a movie to my room). I’m sure you can figure out when I switched modems.

I bought this modem to swap out my old Time Warner rental modem. TW had recently reached out to upgrade my rental one, so I decided it was a good time to upgrade to a nicer one and save the $8 a month in the rental fee. With the savings on the fee, it will pay for itself in less than a year. The Motorola SB6141 has 8 downstream channels for a max speed of 343 Mbps. I’m currently set on the tier that provides 30Mbps because I live in a smaller town, but got this for more channel throughput and future speed increases. Once hooked up, I called support and then enabled my modem on their network – I was up in minutes. I’ve run some speed tests and am getting the speeds I’m signed up for. Happy new modem owner here!

It gets two stars instead of one because I’m hoping it’s just my walls that are the problem, and also because I think the design is cute….. However….. They didn’t even last a night. I came downstairs in the morning & they looked like crap, and one tree was totally off. I could tell when I was putting them up that I was going to have the issue, but I stayed hopeful…. I’m happy they were only $8.99 and that I only got two.

I bought this to replace my existing leased modem from Time Warner. I got ultimate 100 service but never got close to 20 Mbps. I did call Time Warner cable several times and answer always they don’t seen/found any speed issue on their side and claimed that may be my Airport Extreme too old and my computer to slow. I decide to give it a try to purchase Arris SB6141 and I’m glad I did. Currently, I can get around 93 download 12 download on new iMac wireless connected and iPhone 6 around 50 down and 10 up. I don’t need to pay $10 lease for malfunction modem anymore. It’s a good holiday present!!!Internet Provider: Time Warner, Ultimate 100Router: Airport Extreme 4th generation

Works perfectly. Only complaint is the super bright LEDS on the face that can light up a room. I snapped a picture. Even the white case is lit.

Purchased this modem 6 months ago and it has been nothing but infuriating! If you are any kind of frequent internet user or have more then 1 device connected to your modem, this modem will reboot over and over through out the day. As I’m writing this review, it is 7:30am in the morning and it has reset 5 times already since 12am. Amazing it resets even when not being used. It is EXTREMELY sensitive to ANY power or signal fluctuations in the line coming into your house. I’ve had multiple techs come out and all have said we have as high quality of a signal coming into out house as it gets, had all lines, connections, amps and splitters checked and still the problem persists. People that are giving this modem a high rating are probably either extremely casual users that just don’t notice the resets or they or novices when it comes to networking and they think the resets are just “the Internet is being slow”.Do your self a favor and Google “Arris SB6141 T-3 timeout” and “Arris SB6141 cable modem reboot due to power reset” and you will see how many people have serious issue and no fix to the problem. I average around 1 hour to 2 hours of “uptime” which is SO ANNOYING when doing anything on the Internet. And the thing is if you add more people that are connected with other devices, then the problem increases in frequency quite substantially. If you game, don’t even think about it. If you use Netflix or Amazong Fire, 2 or 3 disconnects during any movie or episode and any large download from the Internet will fail somewhere before it completely downloads and you have to start over. I had to download a small download management program to handle my downloads because it has the ability to pick up where it left off when the downloads failed. Chrome and I.E. for some reason do not have this ability. Anyways, I strongly advise you to look else where when it comes to this modem. You are taking a large risk on purchasing this product because of how many unsolved problems across all cable providers it comes with. I provided a screen shot of my connection logs from just this morning….

Bye to Comcast $10.00 rental fee. Just received it in the mail today. It was installed with little effort, but I still had to contact Comcast to complete the installation.1. Uninstall the Comcast modem and/or router.2. Plug the cable/coaxial into the SB61413. Connect the power connector to the SB6141 and electrical outlet.4. Wait for the modem to come online.5. Once the modem is online, connect to the modem using an ethernet cable.6. My computer notified me that I need to open a webpage to finshed the activition. I click on the balloon message and it open the browser. I type in […] activate and enter my account information; sign in. It will take you to a new page to finish activting your account…but of course they as you to call to finish the installtion. I was impress because it only took about 5 to 10 mintues for them to activited the modem. They are going to ask if for the MAC and S/N numbers, model (SB6141), product name (Arris). From that point I just wait for them to input the information and I was online.

I bought this modem to replace the SBG6580. I do not recommend getting a 2-in-1 modem/router. That is what the SBG6580 is and I had a handful of problems with it.COMCAST CUSTOMER****** BEWARE!If you are a comcast customer buying this router, you will have to call them to activate it. It took me around a total of 15 minutes from beginning to the end of the phone call.Be prepared to give the comcast employee the “S/N” and the “HFC MAC ID”Attached is a picture of my internet speed. I pay for 75mbps

I really love this modem. Small but works so good..I bought this after thinking and hoping google fiber opening soon in my state, but I think that’s gonna take long time for Google to instal all the cable in all state in US. So I think I will stick with TWC for couple years until I can use google fiber. So last month TWC call me, and offered upgrade new modem since I’m using ultimate Internet and he said upgrade for free, no charge, and about 4 days before He call me I have problem with the modem which the login wifi always drop, can not login to my wifi. And I have to restart the modem. And I went to TWC to switch my modem with new one that they said free. And waalaaaa.. It’s freeeeee….But I’m still thinking something weird. And I check my internet payment and walaaaa.. They increase charge $2 for the modem from $8 to $10. WTH they said free upgrade but they charge it without confirm to me. So mad..So I bought this tiny modem with router.. I instal it.. And..Wohooooo….When I used modem from TWC I just got 27-32mbps internet speed. And already complain couple times and tired complain about speed. But after i have this mighty modem, u guys can see I got 2x speed then I have before..From 24-32mbps BECOME 75-8bps for dlAnd upload from 5mbps BECOME 12mbps.

Works great with Comcast and was easy to setup. 4 stars because of the annoying flashing lights on the front.

Wow! What a difference! Before I had this modem, I was running my business internet at only 6mb, and now I’m downloading 50mb download 8mb upload!Granted, speed is entirely dependent on your service provider, but to access those speeds you need to have a good and up to date modem like this one. It’s compact, yet has a nice weight to it so you don’t really have to worry about it falling over during the day to day reorganizing of your desk .Installation was a breeze. I simply hooked up the wires in the back, called my service provider, and within 30 minutes everything was finished. The indicators really look nice and I really like the build quality of this one compared to my old motorola. This modem is compatible with Suddenlink services in WV, so if you’re looking for something to save you $5.00 a month, this is your guy. Suddenlink leases residential customers the modem, so with this it will literally pay for itself after some time.I would definitely recommend this to anyone who can access higher download speeds and would like to save some money on their monthly bill. It works seamlessly and anyone could install it!

Just received my “New” sb6141. After unboxong, installing and calling Comcast, I was informed that I had received an “End of life item”. Pretty frustrating since I ordered a “New” modem. Now I have to send this one back and wait for another “New” modem to arrive. Very frustrating. I will update this review upon the “New” modems arrival.Re: I’ve heard stories about comcast frying people’s personal modems every few months. Has anyone else with comcast had a similar issue?

At the time I’m writing this review, I’ve had this modem for about 3 years now. I’m specifically reviewing the Surfboard SB6141, in case this shows up along with other SB model reviews. You don’t need my review to know it’s one of the best 8×4 channel modems you can buy, there are plenty of other reviews here that will give you those details. When I purchased the modem, I specifically wanted a simple and reliable stand-alone modem with a single ethernet port to connect it to my router and this one seemed to fit my requirements perfectly. I have not had any issues with the modem over the 3 years it has been in use. My unit predates the branding changes made after the Arris acquisition, so it’s only branded as a Motorola modem with no mention of Arris. My cable provider is starting to roll out network upgrades in my area and because I’m on a higher service tier, after the upgrades are complete I’ll eventually need to replace this modem with a 16 channel unit to handle their higher speeds. After researching newer options, I realized there was some useful technical information that many modems lack in their reviews, so I hope to provide that here for anyone researching modems in the future. With several potentially good options available that meet my needs, I feel like this type of information can be a useful to consider when you’re left with several options that seem like they would be fine.First up is power consumption. I used a kill-a-watt meter to measure the power consumption of this modem at what I consider to be an idle state. In this case, idle doesn’t mean not using it at all because that’s not a realistic usage scenario, but rather an email client and chat client are running but nothing is actively being streamed or downloaded. For this test, my meter reads 5.9 watts being used by the modem at idle.Next up is external heat. Attached is a photo of the modem taken with a thermal imaging camera. The temperature in the room is about 73 degrees Fahrenheit. The hottest point of the outside of the modem reads as 98 degrees Fahrenheit. To the touch the modem is just warm but not hot. I don’t have the numbers for other modems, but I would consider this to be reasonable. In general devices that run cooler are less likely to suffer from failures due to overheating.I have the modem connected to an uninterruptible power supply (battery backup) so it had been running 24/7 for many months before the photo was taken and power consumption was measured. The power consumption data is useful to me for that reason, as it helps me to maximize the amount of time that the modem remains online during a power outage. (The cable line is still active while the power is out, with backup power I’ve remained online for several hours during outages with this modem.)I hope this data is useful for someone, as it’s something I’ll be trying to look for when I buy future networking hardware.

When it works, it works well enough. However, frequent automatic power cycling has been an issue since day 1. Was told by Moto/Arris customer support that either the power adapter or my power lines were bad. Put it on an UPS / Battery Backup and replaced the power adapter (at my own expense) and still the same problem. Customer Service did their remote test and said everything was good, not their problem, passed the blame to the cable company. “Cable Modem Reboot due to power reset” doesn’t sound like a Cable Co. issue to me.Disappointed, will probably go with a different MFG when I’ve finally gotten fed up with this modem.

I finally decided to replace my old SurfBoard DOCSIS 2.0 modem (COX internet) that was dropping connection every time when there was few devices streaming video contents, and I very happy with this upgrade!!! New Modem hasn’t dropped connection once! Before I got this modem, I read that many people were complaining about bright LED on front. And Yes, they are bright!!! You can google it and find lot of ideas how to tone brightness down. But this is what I did. Friend of mine had old peace of window tint for cars ( I believe it is darkest one, I am not sure) that I cut it and tape it over front panel with regular scotch tape. If that is still to bright, apply two layers. For me, one layer works fine. And it does not look bad.If you walk into any windows tinting garage in your neighborhood, I bet they will give you that small peace of tint for free!Hope this was informative and definitely recommend this modem to everyone who is still on DOCSIS 2.0

I used this modem with TimeWarner Cable for about two years and it wasn’t a good experience. I would frequently experience disconnection as well as a slow connection until I upgraded to a NETGEAR CM500. The LEDs were also annoyingly bright, i had to put black tape over them.
