Motorola SB6180 Product Details
The Motorola SB6180 is the ideal competitive solution for residential users, the small business owner, or any medium-to-large business. Its’ compact design allows it to easily fit into any small space such as a bookshelf or closet without making your internet the centerpiece of the room. Thanks to the SB6180, gaming, shopping, downloading, working, high-quality voice and video conferencing, and peer-to-peer networking applications are now far more realistic, faster, and efficient than ever before.
Dependable Speeds with the SB6180
By capturing the power of DOCSIS 3.0 technology, the SB6180 speeds past other models using 8×4 channel bonding, which allows access to advanced multimedia services with data rates of more than 300 Mbps in DOCSIS mode and 400 Mbps downstream and 120 Mbps upstream.
Similar to the Motorola SB6141, the specifications compacted into the SB6180 are more than adequate for any internet plan under 300 Mbps.

Awesome
E. L. Brown –
Working great.
madamimadam –
It seems to work just as easily and just as well as my other cable modem, and at just over $25 I consider it a great deal!
Max Davis –
Worked for two months and no longer functions…
john f firestone –
sorry to say the modem was still registered in another person’s name I was not able to use it I had to return it it looked very good too bad I wasn’t able to use.
Keith –
Worked for a little over a year and died, luckily I had the old work horse to tied me over till the replacement arrives, which will be a different one. I lose about 75 mps, but at least it works.
Darve –
functions good, nice range
Garrett –
Awesome price for a modem that does what you need.
Ben –
Great modem!
Gabriel J. Pratts –
So far it’s working with no problem.
Jonathan M Garza –
Great modem, does exactly what it needs to be doing! Had it for a few months now, and not a single problem. Great alternative to renting one from the cable company monthly. The shipping process went without a hitch, and they were really nice to work with. All in all very happy.

I used to pay TimeWarnerCable for more than two years for using their modem. But finally, I decided enough is enough. I bought a used piece of this item and it is working just great. Although this exact model is not listed under the compatible modems of TimeWarner, but I did not have any problem registering it, I just called them and gave them the MAC address and it was registered successfully.I have the standard package with TimeWarner, the download speed was 15 MB before. They have upgraded their services recently and now my subscription supports up to 50 MB download rate. This modem is compatible with the new speed and I get actually around 50 MB of download bandwidth.I would like also to mention that I had hard time to have it running the first time. I had a problem when I tried to connect it to my wireless router. It was working fine when it is connected directly to my laptop via the wire. However, the router did not recognize the modem at first or the other way around. I kept power cycling until it worked at last.Overall, this modem completely fulfills its purpose and it supports high download speeds. I would recommend.
Daniel G. –
Exceeded my expectations, way more power than what I am paying for with my service provider.
Noah S Van Gorden –
The modem works fine and install was simple. I use it on COX and there were no issues. I upgraded from a older docsis 2 because COX kept telling me to, for better speeds, but I haven’t noticed any speed improvements, and browser based speed tests are identical to the older modem, so in hindsight I wouldn’t have purchases this as I’ve seen no improvement.
steven –
Does its job. Only complaint I have is that the front light is very bright. It looks like a cop car parked in side my apt when my lights are off. I just covered the light. extremely bright flickering front light
Jose N. –
A great device; havent had any issues with it.
Josh O –
I’ve had this one for a few years and it’s been working great. No problems so far.
Matthew K –
Works, like a modem should. Only had it for less than a month, but so far couldn’t be happier.
Ennon –
You CANNOT get a warranty replacement on this item. It was sold to me as new, but this is a used item. Mine died 5 months after use and Motorola informed me that the warranty on my modem ran out three months before I purchased it!
Prasprince –
Big thanks to all the previous reviews here. Just wanted to let all know, this modem works with comcast in Florida. just asked the tech guy to load configuration for 6141
Pham. H –
Would buy again if needed. Works great with my time warner internet. Haven’t had any major dropout in connection and it seems to be helping my internet speed.
KB3 –
Second one, and they both quit working few months after purchase. Decided to just rent from cable company instead of purchasing.
Gary –
Excellent
Wendell Ficklin –
Perfect replacement for failing modem – great value.
Hector Hernandez –
No Wi-Fi
Nick T. –
I copied the part number from our leased modem. Ended up getting the modem and router used here on Amazon for less than $100. Works great and saves me $8/mo.
OldBrit –
Works great. Contacted Time-Warner Cable by chat and gave them the MAC ID. It was up and running 5 minutes after I took it out of the box.Just connect the coax. Plug your router into it via Ethernet cable, and plug it in. Wait for it to come up. Reboot your router. Then contact TWC and give them the MAC ID on the bottom of the modem. Here’s a tip: Take a picture of the label on the bottom of the modem with your smartphone. That way you’ll be sure you didn’t copy it down wrong when you give it to TWC.This model is faster than the modem I was leasing form TWC for $8.00 per month.
Chris Stock –
Awesome price…works like new..whats not to love? Quick shipping too! Good Seller.
adam kesey –
stopped working after 5 months, Ethernet port went bad.
Jimmy L. –
Based on the customer reviews and questions, I decided to pick up this modem to try with my Time Warner Cable internet service. However, I purchased the modem on eBay instead of Amazon, so this review is just about the modem and not about the customer service I received. If using this with Time Warner, I would advise calling into Tech Support instead of doing an online chat. I initially tried to register the modem via chat and even though they assured me it was added to my account, it was not. I called in, told them I wanted to use a new modem, gave them the serial number, and it was all set up. Like some of the reviewers stated, even though this particular model is not on Time Warner’s list of modems, it will work. I did not have to mention the modem model at all. This modem is actually used for Cox Cable. After my modem got online, I tested my connection first via direct connection and I was receiving download speeds of about 110mbps. I then connected the modem to my wireless router and everything was good to go.For a nice used modem, I paid about $25. If you rent a modem from TWC, you would pay that in under 3 months of use, so I would highly recommend picking one of these up if you plan on going the separate modem/router path.
Robert M Sylvester –
Worked fine for 4 months then stopped working. I tried doing a factory reset it but I still couldn’t get it to work.
BigBallinShotCallin –
Extremely fast DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Works great with Cox Cable Internet in San Diego.
Paul Kerber –
Quick delivery, great product.

CDC –
This is a very reliable modem and I recommend it over other brands.
Kathleen –
Does not have Wi-Fi capability. Do use this wirelessly you must have a compatible router.
Bud Bishop –
not compatible with comcast threw it out
Nauip –
TWC “automatically upgraded me for free” from 35/5 to 200/20, I grabbed one of these and called them up to activate my new speeds & modem. When asked I told TWC I had a SB6141. They tried to tell me I was only capable of 50/5 and I needed to have a tech come out and upgrade my modem (again) with their modem. I told the rep no, according to their charts this modem should be capable of 100 Mbps and to activate it now.New typical speeds are 117/12 and it’s been working like a champ for ~ 6 months. Pretty good for a (used) $30 modem.
Sean P. Burns –
Great deal. Works like a charm. Fast shipping.
James B Johnson –
This modem paid for itself after 3 months of not paying the cable company a rental fee. It’s still working great!!
CuasiJoe –
If you have xfinity buy this. Don’t pay those rental fees. You can find this device at discount and it will recoup the investment in a couple of months.
Martin –
Seems to work well with comcast. At first I didn’t know this was not supported by comcast and when self activate failed and I called up they (eventually) came back saying ‘oh, the technician came back saying SB6180 is unsupported. You’ll have to get another modem.’ Well, crap!Did a bit of research reading the reviews and found out it works if you just claim its a SB6141. I also read comcast engineers on dslreports will help you activate one of these. So I made a posting about it, and they refused to help saying its not supported and trying to activate it as an SB6141 is not possible. Blah. So A couple days later I called up again and just claimed its an SB6141 and it does indeed work.Only thing is in the logs it says its refusing the firmware update from comcast because its in the wrong format:2016-06-16 17:22:27 4-Error SW upgrade Failed after download – Incompatible SW fileDoes this matter? Who knows. My modem currently has:Software Version: SB6180-3.5.8.4-GA-01-516-NOSHEither way, works and performance is just as good as the old xfinity modem.
Velai_28 –
It works well with time warner. I thought at first it will not work since its not the same with the modem they got, and it is smaller. But it does. I just told them its the same modem and they activated it.I bought the second hand and the shipping is fast. It doesnt come with its original box but had its adapter. It saves me money from rebnting from them.
Slickster –
Great
Nava T –
Work great with COX cable!!!
G. Leatherwood –
Took the Cox guy 5 min to set up when he got there.Performance is great. Showed up in a bubble wrap ball, but i didn’t care. Works great.
Loren Trujillo –
SUPER quick shipping, product as described and in “new” condition. Will update if necessary once installed with my ISP.
Vicki DM –
I purchased this as a used device from Miakota. I have not tried it yet, but my experience with used Routers/Modems has been excellent. I’m writing a quick initial review to point out that (at least from this supplier) I received a no-name (expected) power adapter that is rated at 12V
Marcus –
Unplugged my Xfinity router, plugged this unit in ,called comcast support told them its a sb6141 , couple minutes later, worked just fine , i bought 2 (one for backup, ) because of such cheap price
