This was never described as being refurbished in the product information. When I tried having comcast add the equipment to my account it would not pull up any known equipment. I do NOT recommend this to anyone

We purchased a refurbished C7800 after realizing we needed to upgrade from a C3000 router. So far so good! Very fast internet. Definite upgrade!

The Netgear Nighthawk X4S, C7800 works great with Comcast Xfinity! I was originally renting their combo modem wifi router with a 1GB plan (in Philly suburbs). Their modem works great but I just don’t want to give them anymore of my money. The bill just keeps going up and up for the same services. The most painful step of the transition as you are probably already aware is to communicate with comcast. After dealing with the auto prompt and a long wait, the first agent sounded like they were risen from the dead in another country and lacked cognitive ability. Worst agent ever! And I’ve spoke to a lot of bad comcast agents over the years. She would be in the middle of a sentence and just stop talking. At one point she said she was going to transfer me but never did. I kept hearing the background noise of the office. I ended the call and called back and got an agent who spoke american english. I provided the model number, serial number and mac number of the netgear modem and approved the new lower bill amount. It was a long but successful call. Unfortunately the last step to activate my device involved tech support and she didnt handle that so she dumped me back into the main queue and after it sounded like an agent answered, they hung up on me. What I later learned is that I can activate it myself via xfinity.com/activate. The Netgear genie site to manage my modem and wifi is so easy to use. I then drove to an xfinity store and returned their modem. If I had to go out of my way to complain, I’ll say that the white status lights on the unit (online, 2g, 5g etc) are extremely bright like a flashlight. I placed a piece of paper over them. Also, the instructions didn’t mention that there would be two SSIDs, one for 5G and the other for 2.4GHz. The 5G is for better speed and the 2G is for distance. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this nighthawk. My advice, allow an entire half day for setup. Also, if you get a comcast agent who doesn’t give you a warm feeling, just end the call and call back. Don’t take a chance messing up your account by talking to someone who isn’t qualified to do more than push a broom. *Update 1-12-2020: even though I was able to activate the modem myself, there were some other settings on the backend of my comcast account that needed to be adjusted. So you will still need to call or chat with Xfinity tech support.

Works great. I live in a small studio and it’s perfect for me. I have two phones, two laptops, a tablet and my ps4. The performance was way more than I could’ve asked for.

Bought this as I’m using Mediacom in Savage, MN and wanted to replace their router/modem combo to save myself 11.50 a month. Just did a test, and as you can see in the picture it’s pretty insanely good. I’m paying for 100mbs/down and with their modem/router combo I got around 100 mbps with only TEN up. Netgear literally DOUBLED my up speeds. This is of course wired.Installation was literally plug and play, no problem whatsoever. It should be noted that my WIFI speed on their 2.4 two levels away (basement to second floor nearly same location) is 12.5 mbps and for some reason 23 up (faster than my ethernet connection?) So if you want dependable WIFI you should just purchase a standalone router and connect it to this, or buy boosters and plug them in where needed.

In the product description: ‘Engineered with 32×8 channel bonding and DOCSIS 3.1’How it should read is: ‘Engineered with 32×8 channel bonding AND ON A COMPLETELY AND UNRELATED NOTE, DOCSIS 3.1’. The 3.1 is 2×2 and incompatible w/ spectrum. According to the cable tech that just left, he stated that a MINIMUM of 4 down channels was needed. My, limited [to be fair], understanding is that this is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem that won’t take it personally if you connect via 3.1 but don’t expect much, it’s connecting under protest.

setup is as easy as pie. i am pc literate so i may be biased (if you aren’t just follow the easy directions `in order`… but it took me 15 min (10 min modem doing its initial setup). using xfinity/activation page i didn’t even have to talk to anyone, needed none of the new modem’s info at all they just texted me a code and the new modem setup with all of the original modem’s parameters.sweet!

Looks brand new! This modem router works great. My internet plan is 100 mbps and I achieve ~50 mbps through 5ghz WiFi from about 20 feet away (through a thick wall), which is to be expected. Very pleased.
