With WiFi this great, it means all of your devices will surf, stream, & game at lightning fast speed.
Save on monthly rental fees
Yet another reason to invest in your own equipment is the longterm savings you’ll accrue, just by not paying your monthly modem rental fee. Most cable providers charge you a monthly fee from $5-$15, just to rent your equipment. After purchasing your modem, it will have paid for itself within just 1 year, in most cases. Save money by owning your cable modem or cable modem router. Replace your rented equipment can save you up to $168/yr in rental fees.

Netgear really knows their stuff when it comes to network security features. The Netgear Nighthawk C7000 includes parental controls, and supports WEP and WPA/WPA2 wireless security protocols. Wow! I have spent untold hundreds over the years trying to get WiFi working throughout my older 2 story home replete with walls and rooms; while I certainly didn’t relish spending another 400 bucks, desperation kicked in and I figured I would give it a try. With the ORBI system, I am getting a solid 200Mbps throughout every corner of the house, even the downstairs media room that I could never get a reliable signal. Finally I can cut the cord and not suffer through continual buffering errors. Very, very satisfied with this ORBI system.

I was nervous about this purchase and installation (being over 70 years old) as I have little technical knowledge and fewer skills. However, simply following the guidance on the app I was able to install the Orbi and have everything up and running in about 15-20 minutes. The improvement was dramatic with download speeds increasing from about 60 Mbps to 125 Mbps. I could not be happier with the Orbi Whole Home WiFi system.

We use Suddenlink and have been paying $20 a month to rent a modem/WiFi for a long time. A friend told me about Orbi, so I took the plunge and ordered the modem/WiFi + satellite.
Pretty easy set up. Got ISP (Suddenlink) on the line and once they had the MAC address they activated my Orbi and it is awesome. Never had internet speed this fast.
Satellite is easy setup once modem is running. Plug it in and wait 3 minutes. Expands network tremendously.
ONE HUGE TIP:
Rename to exactly your previous WiFi name and password. You won’t have to “update” passwords on any mobile phone, tablet, laptop or anything that was connected to previous WiFi. Big time saver.
Once you are up and running, go into modem settings -) Advanced Mode. Rename.

I don’t typically write reviews, however wanted to share my frustration with this product for others looking to purchase it. The modem/router was easy to set up, and allowed me to use wifi no problem for our devices and TV, however I got a new router due to my job allowing me to work at home a few days a week, and wanted a reliable wifi strength for the job. With my work computer I use a VPN to sign into the secure network. So on my work computer I was able to log into wifi, then connect thru VPN, however the VPN would drop less then 5 minutes later. I could connect back in, but same issue would again happen with VPN dropping. I called my help desk at work, and had them try different set ups, even gave me new laptop to try to solve issue but nothing worked. Then called my internet provider and had them run tests on their end, but all was good for that too. Then called NETGEAR to have them trouble shoot the issue, but after 3 calls to them and nothing working, I was beyond frustrated. After 2 months I did my own research online on Netgear blogs and forums, and found out this actual modem/router does not support VPN! And there is no way to fix it. I wish I knew this before I spent over $130 on it, because I wasted the money as this modem/router is useless to me. Bought a Motorola MG7540 and works perfectly with no issues

I bought this on the Cyber Monday sale, I’ve been wanting to buy my own modem instead of paying the leasing for a crap modem from Spectrum. I’ve had that modem for 4 years, so I’ve spend over $400 in leasing 🙁 That’s changing now with my AC1900. Setup took 45 minutes because Spectrum had some problems authenticating my modem from their end. With a beer in hand, talking to a Spectrum rep and after 6 or 7 restarts of my modem, I was up and running.
I setup my modem during peak hours and just browsing webpages I could tell that the modem performs faster than the old crusty modem, Arris DG1670A that has 16×4 channel bonding compared to the 24×8 that the AC1900 has.
The setting menus are easy to browse for the modem, more intuitive than others. I don’t have to wade through manuals to figure out where I have to navigate to make settings.

THE WAY TO FIX ELECTRONICS FROM DROPPING A WIRELESS SIGNAL (cellphones, laptops ect) go to your modem settings
-Type 192.168.0.1 in a web browser, when you set the modem up you had to make a password. Login is: Admin and password is whatever you set. (I saved my password in my browser for an auto login so I don’t even have to type it)
-Your settings should already have the ‘basic’ tab selected
-On the left hand side, click on the ‘wireless’ button
-You have two wireless bands, 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz, change the CHANNEL that each are broadcasting. It doesn’t matter what channel you change it to, just change it to another one. Example, my 2.4GHz was on channel 11 and I changed it to 1, my 5.0 was on 157 and I changed it to 36.
-Click the green ‘apply’ button at the top and the settings will change
This should solve your problem. This happens because there are so many wireless signals in today’s world that these signals can interfere with each other. This is a common problem with this router but it is an easy fix. If your still having problems, just go into the settings again, pick another channel on the list and try again. Hope this helps!

Did not work for spectrum here in New York state. Called them and it was not on the list of compatible modem/router combos. The fact that it says Spectrum on the box as advertised is a LIE. Wasted 179 dollars. I dont feel like shipping this useless item back so the money just burned thanks to the spectrum ad. Way to go sellers. Way to steal money.

I was excited to get a new modem and return Comcast’s rental back to them to save money while getting better speeds. Sadly that didn’t happen. This modem I have had hooked up for nearly a month and the speeds are incredibly unstable. Sometimes I’ll get 250 mbps download speed as I pay for. Other times I’ll get under 1 mbps which makes it impossible to stream, game, or even work with a laptop effectively. I work from home so having a reliable connection and reliable speeds is mandatory. I’ve called Comcast to troubleshoot 10-12 times and had 2 techs come to my house and the line checks out. Today I hooked up my old Comcast modem after trying everything imaginable to make this modem work as advertised. The old Comcast modem immediately got top end speeds and it’s held consistent. So to get incredibly slow speeds all morning on this modem and then within 15 mins of hooking up the old Comcast immediately getting top end speeds lets me know that it’s the modem. I’ll be returning in a few days once I verify consistency with the old Comcast modem. I hate it didn’t work out but I’d rather pay monthly to get good speeds than getting inconsistent speeds from this modem.

I recently inherited my father’s house and I brought along my old Arris router/modem when I moved in. I started having a bunch of issues with my internet so I purchased this combo unit in the hopes it would cure what ailed me. I tried installing it but someone had previously purchased it and reset the password to something other than the default and I couldn’t connect. So I had the cable company come out to look at my lines and it turned out that my father had way too many connections running off the junction box so I was losing my internet signal. The nice guy fixed that and then noticed that my router/modem wasn’t capable of delivering the speeds I was paying for. So I showed him this unit and explained the password issue. Sigh… He stuck a paper clip in a hole in the back of the darn thing and it reset it itself back to defaults. I felt so silly but I was so glad I hadn’t initiated the return process.
He was nice enough to get it installed for me and it was super fast and easy. He literally plugged it in, hooked up the cable line, called over to the home office and read off the serial number on the back of the unit and I was in business. I went from having a max of 150-200 Mbps to now having OVER 480 Mbps. It’s amazing! And the modem is so easy to use and care for. When you log in for the first time, it prompts you to set up your password recovery questions. Other than that, you don’t need to do much else to use it out of the box. I’m so happy I spent the extra money and purchased this one. The app is very easy to use as well. All in all it is a great buy!

I am an IT professional and I have a lot of experience with networking. Most of this kind of equipment is a major pain in the hindquarters to set up and manage. This equipment is only a very minor pain to set up and its performance is mostly as advertised. I’m favorably impressed.
For those of you who care, it looks very good; a nice shape and color that should easily fit with your décor. You can purchase a clear acrylic shelf for it if needed. I bought one but sent it back because it did not come with mounting hardware. I’m glad I did so because I was not able to position the units as I initially planned.
Placing the units such that I got the reception I wanted was a bit of a challenge but I did eventually manage. I placed the master unit near the center of my home. The satellite unit went into a corner of the TV room at the far end of the house; it’s hard wired to the Roku and AirTV units. Everything else is wireless. The Amazon Fire unit works fine, even though it’s mere inches from the satellite. My PC got decent reception with no external antenna and gets great reception with an external antenna. There are no discernible issues when simultaneously watching HD TV, Alexa playing music and downloading something on the PC.
I recommend that you move the units around your home to find the best positioning. After each move, press the button to reconnect the satellite and master. If at all possible, you want to see both units displaying their blue lights of happiness (i.e. satellite displays yellow when it’s not optimally placed and crimson when it’s very unhappy). Then: 1) walk around the house with your phone and watch the number of Wi-Fi bars – you may have to stop and wait in each location because most phones need a moment or two to reregister reception and redisplay the reception bars; 2) Do the same thing with each device that you intend to use that displays reception level. If you have a laptop, run a speed test from various locations. It’s going to take time (and quite a bit of schlepping) to find the best positions for the master and satellite units but it is worth it.
The setup instructions are adequate and the management dialog is actually quite good. I like being able to tag my devices with a description. I did not mess around with any of the delivered settings because they are all reasonable for my needs.
BEFORE you start pairing the first device, change the passwords for both the admin user and the Wi-Fi, especially the latter. Use 12 characters for maximum security and tape them to the bottom of the unit so that they don’t get lost.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This modem is approved by Comcast for their services of up to 400Mbs at the “mydeviceinfo” location of their site as “netgear-cbr40-647”. They DO NOT approve it for their higher speed services. As far as I know, AT&T doesn’t permit you to use your own modem.
One final thought: I did not do this but I believe it to be possible to switch to this unit without changing all of your connected devices. I would suggest this only to a confident user with experience. Note the SSID (Network Name) of your existing Wi-Fi router and then turn it OFF. Change the SSID of the Orbi to match the existing SSID and change the Wi-Fi password to match that of your existing Wi-Fi network. I believe that that should work. I didn’t do it because my existing Wi-Fi password was only 8 characters and I used this opportunity to strengthen it to 12.

I upgraded my Xfinity internet to a higher speed package, so I decided to upgrade my router as well to handle it. I chose not to use a Xfinity router (I read many people recommending to not use a Comcast-provided router), and got this Netgear modem. Before I changed my router, I tested my new internet speed on my old modem, and it topped out at around 100mbps, but it jumped to 239mbps after installing this Netgear modem.
Installation was easy, but I did have to call Comcast to get them to finish setting up my new connection. It surprisingly didn’t take them very long (maybe 10 minutes on the phone – I was expecting an annoyingly long wait or multiple hiccups). Anyone looking to upgrade their Xfinity Internet package should consider this modem as well.
