I was hesitant in buying this product due to its varied reviews. All I can say is ignore the negative posts, or should I say….if you know how to use modems and routers further than simply plugging them into the wall and expecting them to be flawless….ignore them.Like most of you considering buying this modem/router, its because TWC and COX etc. have monthly rental fees for their poor quality modems (which they invariably then charge you for when you cancel your service as they call it damaged because it had the audacity to collect dust over the 3 years it was on your shelf).So…..its your OWN modem, not a cable companies, so no; they won’t fix your firmware or help you work out problems with it, why should they!? It is also a modem intended to work with many different cable networks all over the globe so don’t expect it to work flawlessly with your cable provider right out of the box…..Netgear do not know you are going to use it with TWC etc. when they construct it in China, its just circuit boards, connectors and some lights…so its upto you to fine-tune the firmware and manipulate the router to work best for your internet service.If any of this is already sounding a little foreign to you…what can I say, you need to just rent the modem from your provider….you are out of your depth, but DO NOT post reviews saying this modem router is ‘terrible’ and ‘is so slow’. Right out of the box so was mine, but after 5 minutes fine tuning the firmware settings I have had it running my 20mbps TWC internet flawlessly for 4 weeks now, even at the furthest point of my large apartment i still get 14-20mbps wireless.If you are someone that understands these relatively simple ‘jargon’ terms, buy this product. in less than 4 months you will be saving $5-10 on your monthly internet charges and you will be a very happy buyer!
