First off i am a Netgear Superfan purchased 9/2015Pros:1. Super easy activation via TWC’s website. 3 minutes, done2. Netgear super active on this site helping where there are problems unlike others3. No more $8 monthly rental fee’sCons:1. Tips over very easily2. feels cheap due to super light weightMy thoughtsThis modem thus far has worked excellent delivering as it should. To folks having trouble activating, you must have your DNS servers defaulted to your ISP’s DNS,have your account number beforehand, it really is quick and simple via the webTo folks have modems die, since you now own a cable modem you need to regularly check yoursignal levels as this is the #1 cause to modem failure/death, if you know you have issue currently with your serviceid advise against buying your own modem until issues are fixed.

I am very happy with this wifi router. It’s great to have my own router and save $10 a month. And it handles Comcast Internet Plus. I did a performance test a couple of days ago and found it was maintaining download speeds of 25GB and upload speeds of 6GB.

I bought this to replace a Motorola unit which died. I wanted to get a unit with 16 download channels. I tried an SMC unit, but it was had much worse performance than my very old Zoom modem. I am on comcast, and was getting about 90Mb/s download and 12Mb/s upload with the old zoom modem. Once replaced, this unit is virtually identical, which is fine, as it is not a busy time of the day. I look forward to checking out the performance during the evenings and weekends to see if it maintains the performance now that it has 16 download channels bonded. I will update later after I observe this.

Well after I read all the reviews and comments about this product I was excited to get rid of my comcast cable modem that was’nt even gaving me the speed I’m paying for, BUT after installing everything I’m loosing more than an 80% in my wireless speed connections, ethernet conection get my 105 mbps, but my wifi is dropping to 17 or 19 mbps, also I need to be at 3 ft from the modem to get all the bars in coverage, so I’m imaging that the router must have some sort of issue because everybody talk beauties about this device coverage and wireless speed and that’s not what I’m getting.troubleshooting: I tried whatever I read and know about it, change of channels, even using the 5ghz frecuency I’m not getting what I use to get in the comcast modem. So, super dissapointed with this purchase

    Customer – January 3, 2016

I bought it new Dec 9 15 but this modern is worst I never experience, the speed for MHz is to slow I get Comcast Blast speed 150.mbs and I had test it with Comcast modern at hard wire speed 180+ Mbs 5GHz 180+ Mbs and 2.4 GHz 100+ Mbs and the speed from this modern hardwired connect speed is low 90 at 5GHz is under 60Mbs and 2.4 GHz is never go over 10 mbs almost time I only get 2 or under the I contact customer support few day after purchased they had exchanged it 3 times so far and 4 times on the way and each time I had to pay them $16.90 for the replacement and every time I received the replacement it dead on arrival. I said Dead on arrival because I try to activate my modern with comcast it can not get done because the modern they replace was also defected the modern can no lock in the internet there for I can not activate it, I contact Comcast many times for help to activate it but Comcast told me that they can not activate my modern because it can not get online to activate that mean the internet light never com on solid green. I currently waiting for the fourth replacement it may arrived on 1/5/16 and try it for last time if it not work than I may consider try to get all my money back so far I paid $100.00 for the modern plus 3 times they charge me 16.90 for shipped the replacement

Performs great, as advertised, on Comcast Blast (Internet only)FYI – DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem required to attain best broadband from ComcastSpeeds from OOKLA ~ a 20 Ping, ~ 170 down/~ 12 Up (same speeds behind router as modem)Tested Comcast Blast Internet for several weeks before firing overpriced mediocre ATT Uverse (after riding me hard too many years lol)Update 2+ months: no issues, or reboots required, yet

Detail: Great product but terrible set-up. Today I received the product and connected to the cable fairly easily. However, when setting up wifi, my laptop just won’t take the password noted on the back of the modem. It was only accepting numbers but the modem’s password has both numbers and letters. I couldn’t figure out why so decided to call Netgear Support for help. I HAVE NO IDEA why the call went to a third party called ecomputersupport. This company disguised itself as the third party technician to help me config modem. They even took remote control of my laptop, and then told me I have virus which need to be fixed NOW before they can set up my wifi. I believed them and then they told me how much it would cost to fix it. They gave me a discounted one time fix price of $99.99 and I made my payment. Worst decision ever!!!! I quickly realized this could be fraud and told them I want my money back (they promised yes but we shall see). Attached is a photo capturing my chat with them. THEY ARE TERRIBLE! Finally I was able to call the legit Netgear Support and got help with wifi set up easily (with no remote control whatsoever). Conclusion: Netgear modem works well as the wifi speed improved compared to the WOW! modem I was previously using. However, the SCAM company got me from no where, even when I was carefully and strictly following Netgear’s instruction. I just don’t get it!!!!

Amazing Modem! Yeah, it was a little expensive, but it’s definitely worth it in the long run rather than renting a modem monthly from a cable provider! It’s small and sleek, and it provides fast internet and WiFi. Never really had a problem with it and I’ve had it for almost two years so far. It’s been compatible with X-Finity by Comcast as well as Time Warner cable. I especially like having our own modem because cable companies cannot adjust the speed of the internet to their liking. It seems like this is a tactic for you to buy a higher speed internet from them. Well this will not work for me. Highly recommend this modem!

I just received this today. If anything changes in the next weeks and months I will update the review.Info: I have Comcast Xfinity, I live in a 2,000sqft house that is tri-level and the modem/router is in the basement. Live in suburb of SLC (not too dense)The pictures are using the SpeedTest app on my iphone. They include my old router (which was 2.4ghz) , the new router at 2.4ghz, and at 5ghzSetup: I am very tech-savvy but decided to follow the instructions exactly as given in the pamphlet that comes in the box. In short it litterally took me 15 minutes from the time everything was plugged in to get it completely setup, I even renamed the different frequencies and added the Guest Network option. The instructions are extremely simple. I never had to call Comcast or talk with anyone on the phone at all. Just follow the instructions. You should know your Comast username/password or Account# though.Speed: As you can see by the pictures I posted the speed was boosted from my old router to the new one. And boosted a lot when I use the 5ghz option. It was 8Mbs faster than my previous router at 2.4ghz and the speed was more than doubled when I used the 5ghz frequency. I was previously using the modem and router given to me by Comcast.Range: This wont be any surprise but its a bit of a mixed bag. Obviously the 2.4ghz frequency can be reached anywhere in the house and the 5ghz frequency is spotty depending on the device. Using my iphone6 and my newer (2015) laptop I am able to connect to the 5ghz frequency anywhere in the house. However using my somewhat older laptop (2012) or my blu-ray player I am not able to connect to the 5ghz frequency in my bedroom (which is on the 3rd floor and the router is in the basement).VPN: After I purchased the router I was reading reviews that said you could not use VPN with this modem. This would be a huge problem for me so I immediately tested this after getting everything setup. I was pretty skeptical about VPN not working and it turns out I was correct. VPN works just fine from my experience, good news.Pros: I am quite please it is faster than my other modem and router, that is the biggest pro. Setup was ridiculously easy. The NetGear Network Genie is super easy to navigate, update and control your home network. I knew that I could use both 2.4ghz or 5ghz simultaneously but the addition of a guest network option was a very pleasant surprise. Now I can have people who are visiting connect to the guest network without having to give them my normal password. No more $10/month rental fee!Cons: So far the biggesst con that I have found (and I knew before I bought it) was that it only has 2 LAN line connections. I only need 2 but occasionally I will plug in a separate desktop when I am fixing someones computer and want to leave my desktop plugged in. I guess in this case I will need to unplug my printer while I use the 2nd LAN port. I would say the range of the 5ghz frequency, but that is not this particular routers fault.Other: I haven’t used it yet but I’m quite excited to try plugging in an external hard drive to the USB port.

    Theresa Ayala – April 27, 2016

I was interested in purchasing a modem because I have to pay $10 a month for Comcast xfinity service if I use their box. After 10 months this unit will already pay for itself.I started out buying a refurbished Aris unit that was supposedly compatible. That’s two hours of my life that I’ll never get back. The unit didn’t work so I decided to buy new and went with this unit based on the reviews.Within 15 minutes I was online. I opened the box, unplugged my current router/wifi unit, plugged this one in, logged onto the router (instructions on how to were included) and called Xfinity. Calling Xfinity was what took the longest as they had to activate it on their end. I waited about 10 minutes for my new modem to communicate with Comcast and then boom it was working.Dare I say that it’s actually faster than the previous modem? Maybe I”m just excited about saving $10/month. I highly recommend this unit. Our apartment is 1100 square feet and we keep the modem in a separate room. Internet is crisp and fast.******UPDATE 8/20/18*********2 years in and this thing stops working. I went to my cable company and used their router for a day to test and see if my router was the issue. Plug theirs in and boom, normal wifi speeds. I contacted Netgear to see what help they could offer only to be informed that it would be AT LEAST a $90 charge. So yeah, its a cheap modem in the beginning but that all depends on how long it lasts. Their tech support is only included in the first 90 days so if you have issues after that you’re looking at a charge that’s MORE THAN THE COST OF THE ROUTER just to fix it. I can’t recommend a company that doesn’t stand behind their product.

I had a surfboard model SB6120, Comcast changed their system, and related you would not see true speeds until I replaced my modem. I found this Netgear C3700 for $80.00 on craigslist. Now My speeds are 179 MB for download and 12.9 MB upload, which about tripled my speeds. This is a great modem to purchase if you can find it. I have the Blast package as well paid an extra $3.00 for that. The picture is proof it work better.

    BT12 – May 5, 2016

While the concept of an all in one router/modem combination is awesome, netgear is awful at combining the 2 into a product that works. I bought this to replace our all in one router/modem from xfinity, and this netgear one has 1/2 the range and the speed (speedtest.net) on wifi is laughable. I did all the power cycling and making sure I had the latest firmware and no luck. All my wifi devices now have to buffer constantly where as with the xfinity router everything was fine. Wired speeds are 90Mb/s (paying for 100Mbs) so the modem part does work. However I would suggest you avoid this and buy another brand or do what I did and use a separate modem and a good router. Ironically the netgear router only I bought is fantastic.I returned this after 2 days use.Edit: as you can see from the speedtest.net results from my iPhone, I have much improved speeds while on wifi with the netgear router I bought the AC1750 and using a surfboard 2161 modem with xfinity… Wifi range is also vastly improved over this all in one…Do not buy this.

Works Excellent, I have Media Ultra Plus Speed at the Moment. No problems with Service at all. This is a simple Modem, NO extras on it. This works great if you let your router do most or all the work. I use this modem, it goes to my OOMA box, and then my Asus RT-Ac68U. No problems.Lights on the unit not very bright so Compared to my OOMA and my Asus, it has very dim lights.

Wow. That’s all I can say. This is the absolute worst modem/router I’ve ever used. I live in a condo, and the WiFi network isn’t even visible in my list of nearby networks when I’m on my balcony, despite the fact that I can pick up the network of every other condo in this building. My phone can’t successfully get onto the WiFi at all unless I’m within ten feet of the modem. My laptop does slightly better, but network speeds have dropped from 88MB on the modem/router I’m renting from Comcast to 0.59MB (yes, less than a single MB) on this router. See attached photo for proof!Complete garbage.

I bought the 16×4 cm500 modem to be used with Cox Cable. This has honestly been the best purchase I have ever made. I did not do it to save money as I have already purchased my residential gateway from the cable company. I do not know when, but Cox firmware started blocking users from turning off nat and disabling wifi from thier wifi modems. I have my own router and this was causing trouble. Now, everything works great. My speeds have increased as well. I have a 150mbps plan and I usually got around 90mbps over ac wireless. Just changing the modem I now get 190mbps over wifi! Do yourself a favor and let modems modem and routers router. Gateways suck your speed away even when not using wifi. Setup took two minutes with the cable company. I bought this from Amazon prime now so it may not show me as aa verified purchase.Update. 7/7/2016I returned the 16×4 for the netgear cm500 which is 24×8. My area is using all 24 bonded channels. No change in speed over cm500. However know I can compare the two. The cm600 is much bigger than the cm500. I actually needed to change the location on my modem since the cm600 is too tall for the self I had my modem on. Still no issues with performance.

    Matt Sayar – February 22, 2018

When I moved in with my wife, she brought with her a router that was better than mine, so we kept hers. After a while, more and more of our house became smarter. Smart devices were chatting across our house more and more every month. So I decided to upgrade to a TP-Link Router. I grew to regret that mistake every day over the course of a month.

Over the course of the next month, the smart devices grew angry. They couldn’t chat freely and with reckless abandon. Sometimes they wouldn’t ever hear each other. The Chromecast cried in solace. The smart lightbulbs faded to dark. Our guests grew angry with our unreliable network as Game of Thrones struggled to stream. We lost friends. Made enemies. At a certain point we decided enough is enough: it is time to throw more money at this problem.

That’s how we ended up with this spaceship. I spent twenty minutes going through all the advanced settings to make sure it was set up well enough to satisfy my inner geek, then I unleashed it upon the internet. Game of Thrones streamed quickly. Netflix couldn’t feed my router fast enough. My smart devices snapped to attention. The Chromecast wept, this time with tears of joy.

I am a hero. And all it took was a lot of money.

This is probably the best WiFi product in a long time. The only problem I had has been the length of time in turning on smart connect. You have to manually change the wifi names in 5g and normal to the same name instead of the application overriding the names itself like it is was written the product description said. : )

I have 100 mb internet through my ISP. After 1 month of having this router connected and updating the firmware I am lucky if I get 20 mb. I work from home and need my internet speed. This is an issue which has been going on for years apparently. Customer service is a joke. They couldn’t even help me with the setting to get my voip phone going and have not offered an ounce of assistance with this issue. Don’t buy it!!

High quality router that matches it’s price. 5G channel provides high speed connection. However not a plug and play router, you do need to go to backend to set it up before you can connect to the internet, which I didn’t find on my manual.

I live in Florida and we have Comcast/Xfinity as our internet provider and TV, we are expected to have speeds up to 120 Mbps. With our old router we got speeds of 30 Mbps which is ridiculous so I did some research and found that the Nighthawk series of routers is perfect for what we need so I bought it. When it came in I was so happy to install and set it up. Now we have the speeds that are expected of our provider. Also the set up was super easy with the Nighthawk app. The features of the app astronomical to what I thought was possible. I also love how NETGEAR is partnered with circle to make the managing of the devices on my network super easy and simple.

NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8000P) is excellent gigabit router. I bought it brand new $179.49 in September 2019 and I fall in love with it at the moment of unboxing. Even though the user manual provides useful information on how to manage this router, however the users must have advanced knowledge to discover ton of its awesome features.I specifically like the stabilization of this router, the only router I’ve ever used that could run from day to day without overheating or connection drop. Auto firmware update will keep you free from security threads, you may “set and forget” to spend your time on your work, your life and your loved ones.Another awesome feature is Smart Connect – Let the router select the best WiFi band for our WiFi connections. With Smart Connect, we can use the same WiFi network name (SSID), security options, and password for all radios for which we enable Smart Connect. It is awesome to have only one Wireless Network Name (SSID) for 2.4G and both 5G radios.Another awesome feature is available on NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 is ReadySHARE USB that lets you plug in even more capabilities and convenient features through your router’s USB port. These include USB storage you can wirelessly access at home, free software to easily backup your PC or Mac, wirelessly printing from any PC or Mac and the ability to play, view, listen to, and share your videos, photos, and music on DNLA connected TVs, game consoles, or media players.Last but not least, if you place your other banded router in your bedroom, your sleep may be bothered by the router led indicator. With NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-Band WiFi Router you will never have that issue, there’s a small switch in the back side of the router to turn off all the led lights except the power indicator.I have 36 devices connected to this router at home 24/7, both wired and wireless, some of them are high bandwidth usage like 4K TV and security cameras, I have no connection issue at all with NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-Band WiFi Router. Buy it and you will never regret spending money on this wonderful router.

Plugged it in and connected it to my new Netgear Cable modem. When I logged in to the router, I was taken through a complete setup and was in business in short order. I also connected a Netgear Range extender and I have no more reception or “dead zones” in my home or even outside my home.

Router had to be reset weekly in the beginning. Not the router reboots itself multiple times a day for no reason. Upgraded to newest firmware and factory reset, no help. Downgraded to the older firmware and factory reset again, still no help. So glad I spent extra money on this expensive pile of garbage.

The R6900P brings high performance with easy setup. By accepting the default settings, the router is truly plug-and-play. Settings changes are also very easy to make. Wall-mounted high up in a centrally located closet, the Wifi coverage in a 2000 sq ft, two-story ranch home is excellent. I cannot find any dead spots. The WPS easily connected every device I wanted to connect. I highly recommend this router.

Service Provider: ComcastHome size: 1800 sqftLevel of Install: EasyI’ve been using this product for over a month now and have had excellent reliability. The Device is paired with a 300mbs NetGear Modem. Overall NetGear does a solid job with creating a device that allows for adequate wifi coverage while allowing standard port accessibility. The device doesn’t put off a tremendous amount of heat and can handle 20+ devices on it easily. I have had no issues with dropping wifi within our 1800 sqft home. You can also see the App that controls the router. It is very user friendly and provides a significant amount of options to the admin.

This unit provides seamless protection to all connections. Setup is easy. The yearly expenses for a unit from another vendor priced at more than two times the cost of this unit are much higher, once you add in the options that match the Nighthawk unit.

I purchased this router as part of a troubleshooting session to replace my malfunctioning Asus router and I am glad i did. Besides looking cool and providing much better coverage than the more expensive Asus router, i like the interface much better. It was setup and running in less that 5 minutes including the un-boxing and mobile app installation. I have been a strict Asus fan for decades but will now be switching to netgear. I plan on replacing this Netgear with one of their new Wifi 6 gaming routers sooner than later.

This is the best router you can get for a big home or a small business it has no trouble keeping up with demand and it’s easy to setup and the only limit is how much internet date capacity you pay for so if you want something that will be reliable and give you all your internet speed will allow I would definitely recommend this router and the 2000 mb motem that Netgear makes. Again the only limit is your provider at this point so if this combo doesn’t fix your problem think about using your internet or check your lines.

I had my last Netgear router for about 4 years. There is a lot of people who live in my house and use the internet. My WiFi would always cut in and out and was never reliable. It was also pretty slow. I finally had enough and decided to get a new one. I saw the Netgear Nighthawk and decided this was the one I wanted. I could instantly tell a difference in routers. The internet speed was 1000 times faster and the downloading speeds were faster too. This is an excellent product and would recommend this to anyone who needs a better router.

I used this as a bridge in my network cabinet and can verify that the ports will support 1gig connection. I did use an older firmware verison because when the newest one was installed the performance was terrible getting like 150mpbs on average ended up backtracking a few past firmwares and now i’m getting hard wired speeds off 800-950mpbs on average.I’m using a netgear cm1000 cable modem with the setup and a 8 port D link switch which feeds 7 ethernet ports around my household.I have wireless disabled on this module so cant comment on the wifi as I use my Nighthawk D8000 hardwired into a wall outlet for wifi.Hope this review helps others as i struggled for a couple of hours with tech support troubleshooting before turning to reddit and getting some real anwsers.

It works right out of the box. Be sure to unplug your modem and remove the back up battery (if any) before plugging in the router. You need to reset the modem before plugging in this router.I did not bother downloading the app. I used a web browser to access the router login page and changed the default SSID and PASSWORD on the router. I also disable SSID broadcast and disable the LED lights. If you are stuck, look up the owner manual for the device on Netgear support website, just type in the model number. The LED lights are pretty bright so i just disable most of them (beside the Power LED). You will not light up the room + saving electricity by turning these LED lights off. The instructions are in the digital owner manual.1500 sq ft is plenty if you put the router in the middle of the house. My house is 2500 sq ft two-story house. I can pick up the signal when I’m 70 ft outside of my house!.If you just need a basic AC router, this is the one for you. I got this when it was on sale for $49 🙂

As soon as I plugged this router in, it was very easy to setup. I was able to setup both 5G and 2.4ghz and the wireless range is great! Easily plugged in my backup hd and setup a cloud through the router for easy access anywhere. The User interface is easy to navigate and the extra Netgear Armor security is nice to have. I was having problems with a more expensive TrendNet router I purchased 4 months ago and decided to replace it with this and I am glad I did! If I can do it at 70 years old for the first time, younger people will have no problem. At first I was only able to access the NETGEAR82 Wifi, but your help on the internet for solutions covered even my lack of knowledge, and I was able to get the system up and running the NETGEAR82- 5G seamlessly. The NO BS Reviewer – December 19, 2019

The second time I’m returning this router! So many features, so little support. Bogus consumer reviews! The first one I got was a return that was reboxed and put back on the shelf. Netgear reps are more interested in selling you a warranty package fr $80/year than solving your problem. It’s where they go after failing to solve your problem. I bought a Netgear router 15-20 years ago when I was a novice and had just purchased my first PC. Support was poor then too, always trying to sell you support. When you ask about “special features they advertise to make the router even faster, reps reply you don’t need them or it’s not worth the trouble. WHAT? Why offer them then? The glowing reviews have to be fake. This second purchase after spending 2 days troubleshooting doesn’t like static IP addresses. Can you believe that? I wasted too much of my life on this “jewel”. Best router of 2019, my foot! Absolute Torture!

Hey all, this router is awesome for the price. I’ve recently outgrown the stock Comcast / Xfinity router, I’m using this router with a Plex server, a couple home hosted pc game servers with usually 5-10 people constantly logged in (from in and outside the local network) and it has seemed to improve performance and latency 10 folds over. Also the user interface is great! Comcast would constantly reset my router causing me to loose all my port forwarding setup with no notice. Going 7 days strong with this new router. Set up took all of 45 minutes tops (including resetting up ports etc). Also a huge PRO: comes with an easy setup configuration ( and built in) to run open-vpn. This is great for vpn’ing into the home network to be able to watch Hulu/Netflix while at work or school lol.Only CON I can think of is wifi is decent, but somehow I got a stronger connection on my Comcast router, not a game changer because I hardly notice the difference.Overall I DEF recommend this over using the limited and (control by Comcast) Comcast router. Would I buy it again, yes, but I might splurge and get like the Nighthawk R8000 instead.

Please see the package info attached. It’s a v3 model. The 2.4GHz hardware is not “ac” and it cannot handle high speed connections. I need this bandwidth for my phone. It disconnects intermittently causing bad mobile gaming experience. The 5GHz connection is good and it supports my 100-100 kbps up-down fios wifi very well. However, I started experiencing signal drop recently and I should restart the router every week.I bought the router at a price of $62. It increased to $73 after my purchase though. I think this router worth a budget short term investment. Yet I cannot fully give my heart to it.Notes:- I disabled the junk Netgear Armor came with the router driver. See the 3rd attached image for more info.- Also, do not use guest network as there are many customer reports of issues regarding that.

I bought the R6700 v3, coupled w/ the CM1000 netgear modem. I had a comcast technician who worked for comcast for 15 years come and check everything out as I initially was only receiving 90mbps. I’m suppose to be getting around 1,000mbps, yet my top speed is 440. The comcast tech received 660mbps on his phone and around 200mbps while he had his old laptop directly connected to modem. My macbook pro, 2019, top speed is 440. I don’t feel comfortable rating 5 stars for something that’s getting ~44% of the results. Anything above 750mbps would have been acceptable, not sure why it’s only 440. The tech said I”d need to update firmware but after having installed the nighthawk app no firmware update is needed. Can’t assume the fault lies in the hardware of an almost $3,000 computer; therefore, going to say this router does not actually get closer to 1,000mbps (additionally I can’t find any customer pics of 800+mpbs. . so. . .).

I forget why but I picked this out for my buddy. He actually set it up by himself. He texted later how do I setup my repeater? I asked do you still need it? In a bit, he texted, No. I am cheap and have been using old stuff forever. I live in the boondocks and most of my wireless devices have no security. But My InstaPot required wpa. So I had another old AP so I just set it for wpa. With the nighthawk I actually get 4 AP’s in one. Guess I should mention I am using this as an Access Point, not a router. So I use the “normal” SSID with no security. I can divide those with the 2.4 and 5g channels. Then I put a password on the enabled guest network for both channels. I had devices that I needed to reboot semi often to keep them online. One Foscam IP camera in particular With home automation, cameras, phone, Ipad, printer, chromecast, kindle fire, Fire TV, etc I have about 18 devices on WiFi. Then I got another buddy to get one to replace his older stuff. Uptime and range is better for him also. All these happy results may be gained by just getting something newer. Other products may work as well. But if I need another access point or router I will probably just get another of these without looking at others. I could not be happier. Blue Iris is happy 🙂

Our new router may look like it is ready to launch a thousand rockets with so many lights, (forget a thousand ships!) but it works very well indeed! No more buffering on videos, which was a problem every few minutes, which was a constant complaint here! It covers our whole house easily, and even a nice bit of the lawn. Better coverage than advertised, even.(Our internet provider did have to do a bit of work on the pole outside, which was needed, and did help a little, but didn’t completely repair our issue. So I am talking to Netgear, they admit its faulty cos the 2.4/5GH light wont turn on even though it has internet. The app wont recognize anything (see image).Netgear of course admitting its faulty, processes an RMA but then says i need to pay the shipping cost of $30 for a product of theirs that is a hardware failure!!!! I WILL NEVER EVER EVER PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT EVER AGAIN. And it also is suppose to have a great range, but its spotty at best in a less than 950Sqft apartment. My cable modem wifi box has same range. I’m sharing my internet for 2 floors (about 1,800 square feet) and it’s been a challenge trying to cover the dead spots even with a mesh network. I decided to give the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router a try since I read that it provides great coverage. The router was placed in the middle of the house and setup was pretty straight forward. I set everything up from the Nighthawk app and had some problems at first getting it to recognize the modem. Had to power off both the modem and router. Tried again after powering them back up and was able to connect. The router itself is kind of light but does take up a good amount of space compared to other smaller routers I’ve had in the past. It has air vents on the side and the router is never more than warm on the touch.I’ve used it for several weeks now and speeds are great. Range is much better which was the determining decision on purchasing this. The only problem I did notice is some network drops from time to time. I’m not sure if it’s my internet provider but it’s very short so it doesn’t last more than a minute.I was deciding between this router and one of the newer WiFi 6 routers but it all came down to what I need. I don’t think many devices will support that kind of bandwidth yet and I don’t have any plans on upgrading most of the hardware I currently am using. Glad I purchased this router and hopefully will last many years to come.

Purchase a Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band WiFi Router (R7000) and have locked down my home and guest network. The impressive phone App was an installation dream. A few steps and that was it. The App gives you full control of each device, bandwidth limits, speed tests and best of all provides security alerts from spam and phishing. The WiFi speed is by far the fastest and best upgrade for our home. We cut the cord and only use streaming services not to mention all of our mobile devices and Mac’s and PC’s all perform well. I rate a 5 out of 5 and recommend this for any small business/home business and for personal home use.

I bought this in May 2019 and it was dead by October 2019. The common gripe from users was related to a firmware update that bricked the device. I left the device in storage and tried to resurrect it in March, 2020. It received another firmware update and is still working.Pros: easy to set up and configure. Phone app simplifies managing devices connected to the router. Visibly improved performance of my network compared to the router provided by my ISP.Cons: Limited lifespan. I noticed that it would “black out” without warning. Rebooting the router was the initial fix. Hard resets became a later fix. Now it’s totally unresponsive. It powers on and all the indicator lights remain dark no matter what. It’s a paperweight now.UPDATE: 03/20, latest firmware appears to have solved the problem. Will it last? Time will tell.
