How to Reset Netgear WNDR3700
Resetting your Netgear WNDR3700 is one of the easiest ways to correct almost all common technical issues that you may experience over the life of your modem. It’s a super handy tool to have in your troubleshooting repertoire and can save you hours on the phone with your provider. Here’s how it’s done:
- Plug your modem in to the power supply and wait 2 minutes for it to boot up fully. You’ll know it’s booted fully when the wireless lights come on.
- Locate the reset button on the back of the modem. It’ll be on the same side where all the ports are located. Generally reset buttons on this kind of device will just be a tiny hole that may or may not be labeled.
- You’ll need a flattened paperclip or pen cartridge to do this next part. Press down and hold the reset button for 30 seconds with your modem still plugged in. You should feel a small dull click when you press in the reset button with your paperclip.
- Now wait a few minutes for your modem to reset and reboot itself. You’ll know it’s finished and ready to use when the WiFi lights come back on.
Tip: Still not resetting? Try just holding down for 15 or 20 seconds instead of the full 30. Some firmware versions differ on the number of seconds needed for a reset.
How to Find Your IP Address
This method works on Windows computers and does not require any software to be downloaded. You’ll be using command prompt to find the internal IP address so you can log into your WiFi router or modem router’s settings panel.
- Click the start menu in the bottom left of your screen.
- In the search bar in your start menu, type in “cmd.exe” and then click on that program when it appears in the search.
- When the program opens, you’ll see a black window on your screen with white text.
- Type into the program “ipconfig“, then hit Enter. Your window should look like the one shown below. The IP address circled below shows where your internal IP address will be on your command prompt window. Now you can move on to accessing your modem or modem router’s settings admin panel.

Good router but signal is not strong enough. I live in a single-story 1600 sq ft house and the router is in the middle of the house and the signal is intermittent in the room next to the router. Signal does not travel well through a wall in adjacent rooms.
Robin S. NETGEAR Team –
When Netgear routers work, they work great. When they don’t you are pretty much held hostage by the customer service reps in the Philippines who want to charge you $80.00 if you router is more than 90 days old. Even if you just pulled it out of the box and registered it 120 days after you purchased it. I will now go by another router for $100 and it will NOT be one from Netgear. Another example of the NAW (New American Way).Yours Truly,Disgusted in America

Interface is slow. Had it several years, and its obsolete. Would not play nicely with my ADSL modem (I know, time for real internet).

Works good Thank You.

It connected all my devices automatically and I have had no problems, It was easy to install..

WNDR3700V5. Bought two. Both are Dead On Arrival. Called Netgear. They agreed that the devices are not behaving properly. Looks like they did not install proper firmware? They are supposed to respond to “www.routerlogin.net but did not. Also the IP Address default of 192.168.1.1 was not showing up in ipconfig. It was some other off-the-wall address beginning with 169… That address was also unresponsive…Tested both devices both were failing with same problem(s).I have a WNDR3700V3 that has been running for quite some time. Have had some flaky problems lately where I could not access a remote site that I have. Cell phone was able to contact the site if I turned off wi-fi so that it did not go through the router. Either the router or some peculiar network problem out on the internet. Got new routers to replace it and see if that fixed the problem. Other router was to be a backup since save/restore of router data might not work in the future if routers are not identical… If I could just have gotten a WNDR3700V3, it would have solved a LOT of problem but they keep “upgrading” to new versions that probably are not compatible for save/restore of router data.I’ve never returned anything before. Netgear said to return them through Amazon. So I am shortly driving to UPS store to send them back to Amazon.

Easy set up. Quick start guide is decent, but if you are not network savvy, open the online guide before disconnecting your old network. Good upgrade for people still running a G router and do not need a newer AC grade network.
Daniel Radlick NETGEAR Team –
The first one I bought didn’t work. The second one they replaced it with hardly worked better. Finally replacing this POS with something else.
Kiki –
Never could get the damn thing to work, even after four calls to tech support. Netgear’s “experts” finally threw up their hands and said it must be the hardware, whereupon I sent the miserable thing back.Save your time and money – buy something else.(I finally went back to my 9-year-old Linksys, which still works fine.)
max –
been working good for two years

Still having issues getting it to connect to the website to work on my personal settings. But it is a super fast router and I love it. Just a matter of time for me to fix the issue signing in.
michael w cox –
Perfect !! in a two story home and have no problems.
Customer –
Plug it in, and it works. No hassle. No hoops to jump through connecting to it so long as you follow the instructions, which are quite clear and easy to follow.Extras: the Netgear Genie software is a bonus – I can see who is on my network and (if I ever had to) remove any uninvited guests. It has a link to speedtest.net – kind of handy. Has parental controls, but I haven’t needed that feature. I really like the ability to add an external storage device (via USB) to the router. It’s convenient for sharing files with others on the network.Range? Well, I’m going to have to walk around with my phone and laptop a bit more to give a more accurate assessment of the router’s capabilities. But I can say this: the router and cable modem are in a ~13×13 room with wooden walls and one window. I placed it next to the window. About 25 ft. away (and through a wall), it gets a minimum of 3 bars, no less. That’s not particularly mind-blowing. However, the Internet signal is steady and doesn’t seem any slower than when I’m right next to the router. I suspect that in a larger home, or one with many rooms, that adding a netgear signal booster/repeater/range-extender would be a worthwhile investment. I personally would go with this one here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L0YLRUW?keywords=netgearrangeextender&qid=1445977820&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1Overall, I’m very satisfied with this router. Quite a solid purchase. It works, and the extra features are quite functional rather than superfluous.
Gary Smith –
Excellent router, was able to flash DD-WRT on it and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I can’t really give a review of its stock use because I flashed it immediately after I got it (it was the reason I bought the model because it supported it).
Eraw –
Great wireless N dual band router. Installed ddwrt without issue and it’s been rock solid. Works fine with my 2nd gen Nest.
Janet NETGEAR Team –
I am not to much into knowing about Routers but must say it is up and has been running well.
ar3664 –
Great!
Ricardo Castellanos NETGEAR Team –
(There are 5 hardware revisions. This is version 5 and is the only one that is not supported by DD-WRT) I bought this router from Fry’s Electronics about 1 month ago, from the date of this review. From the very start, I found the interface to be unintuitive and slow. The WiFi would often slow down, requiring a factory reset to get it back up to speed. Even after a firmware update, the router would not support IPv6, despite reporting having a LAN and WAN IPv6 adress. Videos, especially were loading inconsistently on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. This router is such a pain to troubleshoot because the interface is so convoluted and confusing. I can’t even find an easy way to enable Telnet on this. The hardware itself is okay. The router is plain, and clearly labels all ports and buttons, and it runs reasonably warm, but Netgear has loaded some really awful firmware onto it. Don’t even bother installing their “Genie” app, it’s even less useful than the router interface, actually, just don’t buy this router.
Bart D. Hull NETGEAR Team –
Not compatible with CenturyLink Internet. (Although by specs it should be)
David Cohen NETGEAR Team –
I’m not very happy with this router. I have a fairly small 1700 sqft home and picked this up to replace a cheapo generic router that didn’t have enough range to deliver reliable connections in my backyard. Even though this is supposed to support medium to large homes, the range is worse than my old one (the 5G range is abysmal). It’s also very slow to start up.The user interface is pretty good, and it’s nice that you have the option to add a guest network. But it’s not enough to make up for the poor range.
KARINA P. –
I have had this router for quite some time. I did not buy it from Amazon but it’s all the same. I found the original firmware to be buggy and would actually reboot and/or drop the signal in general. I finally upgraded to ddwrt firmware and I haven’t had an issue at all. It no longer reboots nor the signal drops. This is why I gave it a 4 star.
Wallace Chin –
Great product with quality signal.

Easy setup, good performance.Pros:Simultaneous dual- band 2.4 and 5.0GSpeeds up to 600MFour Gigabit Ethernet portsUSB 2.0 port for device sharingBuilt-in antennasSupports A,B,G,and NCons:Stock firmware doesn’t have much firewall features (you can install dd-wrt )Does not allow external antenna. Can overheat, needs lots of airspace around it.There is no dd-wrt for v5 hardware. There are 5 hardware versions each one requires its own firmware. Check the dd-wrt website for a description of the hardware versions.Does a nice job streaming media, especially on the 5G band.

This router replaced my poor quality TP-LINK TL-WR841N Router (AVOID). Out of the box this router looks good. It was very easy to set up, and even has a ‘cute’ pre-set password. Mine was good enough that I’ll probably keep it forever; maybe I’ll even use it on my bank accounts! (okay, maybe not..)All of my speed tests with it have had great results. This is not the bottleneck to my 60Mbps internet speed, which is what you want in a router. I am able to stream video easily. It has dual-band networks, but I’ve only used the 2.4 GHz frequency because that’s what my Chromecast is on and its still plenty fast.Ports were easy to forward (if you’re in to that type of thing), firmware was easy to update (I think you can even use open source firmware, if you’re in to that type of thing), and the network covers a nice area (like my car when I’m outside sitting in it).Its a bit more expensive than some routers, but also less expensive for others. Due to my experience with inexpensive/cheap routers, I would recommend this router.
Wayne M. Parker NETGEAR Team –
Worked ok but signal was not strong enough for my larger home.
Customer –
working great
LUIS Carlos ESCOBAR –
Great router has very long reach and fast. It is small and easy to setup. I recommend this product.
Kirk Van Orden NETGEAR Team –
Really the problem here was that the unit came as a brick which doesn’t mean that they are all bad, I have since had another bad experience with another netgear router and will be using other brands from now on. They simply haven’t been reliable.
Allen –
Great price
thomas k collins –
Perform as expected
Tandhy Simanjuntak –
It worked perfectly as described. It has a number of features built-in inside which I liked. It has dual frequencies, 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.It has traffic control which also very helpful to filter specific traffics.

BEWARE!!!!!! Purchased this based on Netgear’s website instructions on how to configure this router to be used as a wireless access point as I have spotty coverage in my home and I currently have a Netgear WNDR3400 router. When I opened the sealed box which is for a Netgear N600 Dual Band Gigabit router (WNDR3700), i found a WNDR3800 router with a disk for WNDR3700v2 firmware. I could not get the router to function as a WAP as the set-up would not even give an option to enable WAP (which the instructions claim it should). The router would not even set up with Xfinity nor recognize the Arris Surfboard SB6141 modem I have. Upon reseraching Netgear’s website, apparently the WNDR3800 is no longer supported so I have no idea why it was shipped and sold as a WNDR3700. Shame on someone! Sending right back to Amazon!
tcbeaton –
Works perfectly for my networking needs. DHCP, MAC address based static IPs, etc.
James Bibliophile NETGEAR Team –
The router functions fine, but the customer service provided by Netgear is awful. I had a security breach on my router and called Netgear for support. After 35 minutes of conversation, I learned that because my 90 days of free support had elapsed, I was expected to pay a 3rd party (Bomgar) $129 for a year of support in order to get my security breach fixed. I spent 2 hours on the phone before learning that my system was fine (I had fixed it myself a day earlier–though my virus protection software still identified a problem before and after the call with Bombar). Absolutely a horrible experience. I recommend finding a company with decent customer support.
A. Ross –
My router works really well, It was a little challenging to set up, but comcast people helped me and my internet works better. I like the design and it works better than my old one.
AnnaMcD –
I’ve had this since July. Recently it loses connection a lot. I replaced an old model linksys with this and it was more reliable and faster. I’m tired of having to get up and unplug and restart this router. The fast internet I’m paying for is useless with this router.
Allen S. –
Definitely was sent an “used” router. You could at least use a new bag so the old sticker isn’t there, instead of just using another sticker and tried to cover up the old sticker. Have problems trying to connect thru the browsers too. It worked once and that was it. Can’t even connect to it, unless I connect it directly to my computer.
waverider –
Good device. Works well.
gozomonster NETGEAR Team –
This router served us well for a while, but now suddenly is acting up. We have 4 networks set up — a 2.4GHz network, a 5GHz network, a guest network on 2.4 GHz and a guest network on 5GHz. The guest network on 5GHz just never showed up, on any device, ever. But we let that slide. Now suddenly the 2.4 network is refusing connections. The 5 is still working okay, and strangely enough, so is the 2.4 guest network. I googled to try and find a solution, and came across a lot of posts regarding 2.4GHz “radio death”. I’m not sure if this is affecting our router, because the 2.4 guest network is working. But now we only have a working 5 and 2.4 guest, a non-working 2.4, and a 5 guest that we never ever saw. Maybe it’s time to buy another router.
