Fast shipping and well packaged. Easy to set up – well written directions. Software allows for easy auto and manual entry of any necessary programming functions. Was able to set up as an improvement to Comcast standard hub for greatly improved performance throughout the house. Very pleased.

This is a steal for the price that anyone could get it for now. This router works with any custom software imaginable in this world, which is what made it super attractive for me. With LEDE/OpenWRT and a quick queue discipline algorithm (I suggest you to look at CODEL and CAKE) configured in 30 seconds, it can handily beat a lot of much more expensive product. I could torrent and watch movies at the same time on my 15Mbps connection. Everyone who comes to my apartment was amazed how fast “the internet” is. This deserves to be the new WRT54G.

Flash it with DD-WRT or OpenWRT and you’ll have a super stable router that won’t let you down.

Just as an aside it probably says it some where in the product description but this is a wndr3800ch not the original wndr3800. Luckily I was quite easily able to use the 3800ch LEDE factory image to initially flash it. After that I was able to successfully load the original wndr3800 Cerowrt firmware on it and it runs fine which was what I wanted. Also probably says in the description but it didn’t come with the little plastic stand piece which for me was just a minor inconvenience. Finally it did come fairly well marked up on the outside scratch and prior use wise but don’t care about looks where it is and they are upfront about this in description. As for the hardware itself back in the day this was cutting edge but now its pretty long in the tooth which is why it was nice to be able to pick up for $20. Because I specially wanted to run Cerowrt (and use my wndr3700v2 as a wireless bridge now) though this hardware is exactly what I was looking for.

The greatest compliment that you can pay a product is that once it is installed, you never had to touch it again. That is the case of the Netgear WNDR3800 N600 wifi router that I bought in 2012. It is now March 2017 and in this timeframe, I never, ever had a problem with it. I have an average size house with the normal electronic array of 2 TVs, 3 PCs, 1 laptop, 5 tablets, 2 printers, etc, that all fed off of the WNDR3800. The signal strength was great because we could use WiFi all throughout the house, the entire backyard, and all the way in front to the street. We sold our house just a short while ago and we left the router for the new owners. I have no hesitation getting another Netgear WiFi router. Hopefully, it will be another one that I can forget about for 5 years.

The primary purpose of a network router should be to provide DCHP server services, Network Address Translation, and expedient transfer of TCP/IP packets to and from the internet in a safe fashion… This router does an outstanding job of that (as do many others).Aside from its primary purpose, a router should be rated by the features and benefits it offers. This router offers the following benefits amongst other that make it an attractive router to own:• Fast LAN to WAN transfers• Fast Wi-Fi to WAN transfers• Fast LAN to LAN transfers• Dual bands (5 / 2.4 GHz)• Guest networks for both bands• WPA2 (AES) encryption• Gigabit ports for both LAN and WAN• Very strong and solid radio, reaching all corners of a large houseThis router however, was designed for the consumer market, targeting less experienced network appliance consumers desiring only a solid connection. For example the menu options in the firmware are not as robust as other Netgear routers such as the Netgear AC1900.An annoying “feature” as intended by the manufacturer based on consumer demand is that the LED lights do not show traffic flow. They remain on (solid) at all times, making troubleshooting one step more challenging for the professionals. The hardware offers this feature, but it has been intentionally turned off in the firmware by the manufacturer. Netgear never offered a firmware upgrade that would allow a user to configure the LED lights to their preference. (such menu items do exist in the AC1900 firmware.Despite its shortcomings, I rate this router a 4 out of 5 for its WAN to LAN (and/or Wi-Fi) throughput and outstanding range without the use of any external antennas. For the truly technical at heart, there are other options (such as third party firmware) that can be used to provide blinking LED lights… I’m sure you know where to go to download them if you must have it.
