Fiber Modems and Gateways

Fiber internet works a little differently from cable or DSL. There is no traditional modem. Instead, your provider installs an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that converts the light signal on the fiber line into a standard Ethernet connection. The device most people call a "fiber modem" is really a gateway or router that connects to that ONT and creates your home network. This collection brings together every fiber-compatible gateway we carry, hand-tested and ready to activate on the major fiber providers.

What You Will Find in This Collection

Every unit here is Grade A refurbished, tested by our team, and matched to the fiber services it actually supports. Depending on your provider, the right device may be a dedicated fiber gateway, a combo unit with built-in WiFi, or a gateway that handles both fiber and DSL lines.

Matching a Gateway to Your Fiber Provider

AT&T Fiber: AT&T requires an AT&T-issued gateway on its fiber plans. Popular options include the Arris BGW320, the Arris BGW210, the Pace 5268AC, and the WiFi 7 AT&T BGW620 for multi-gig plans and busy smart homes.

Verizon Fios and Frontier Fiber: On Fios, the ONT handles the fiber connection and you supply the router. The Verizon G1100 Fios Quantum Gateway connects directly to the ONT and includes native MoCA support for Fios TV set-top boxes. It also works on Frontier fiber service in former Fios territories. Browse more options in our Frontier collection.

CenturyLink, Quantum Fiber, and Brightspeed: Several CenturyLink gateways support both DSL and fiber deployments, including the WiFi 6 Greenwave C4000XG. The Zyxel C3000A adds GPON fiber support for eligible plans. See the full lineup in our CenturyLink collection.

Not sure which device your plan needs? Our US-based support team can confirm compatibility before you order. Send us your provider and plan name and we will point you to the right gateway.

Why Buy a Refurbished Fiber Gateway

Most fiber providers charge a monthly equipment fee that adds up to well over $100 per year. Every gateway in this collection is Grade A refurbished, individually tested by hand, and backed by our 90-day warranty and free 30-day returns. Our activation guarantee covers you too: if your provider will not activate a compatible device you bought from us, the return is on us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does fiber internet use a modem?

No. Fiber uses an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) installed by your provider, which converts the fiber signal to Ethernet. Your gateway or router then connects to the ONT. When people search for a fiber modem, the gateway is almost always the device they need.

Can I use a cable modem with fiber internet?

No. Cable modems use DOCSIS technology over coaxial lines and will not work on a fiber connection. If you switched from cable to fiber, your old cable modem cannot be reused on the new service.

Which gateway do I need for AT&T Fiber?

AT&T Fiber requires an AT&T gateway such as the BGW210, BGW320, or BGW620. The right model depends on your speed tier and whether your installation uses a separate ONT or an integrated one.

Can I use my own router with Verizon Fios?

Yes. The ONT handles the fiber connection, so a compatible router like the G1100 is all you need. If you have Fios TV set-top boxes, choose a MoCA-capable router so guide data and on-demand keep working.

Do these gateways work with Quantum Fiber and Brightspeed?

Several do. CenturyLink's fiber service is branded Quantum Fiber in most metro markets, and Brightspeed took over former CenturyLink territory in some states. Check the compatibility notes on each product page, or contact us with your plan details and we will confirm before you buy.

Are refurbished fiber gateways reliable?

Yes. Every unit is Grade A, hand-tested before shipping, and covered by a 90-day warranty with free 30-day returns. Refurbished gateways perform identically to new units at a fraction of the cost, and buying one eliminates the monthly rental fee.
