Why Optimum Limits Customer-Owned Modems
Unlike many ISPs that accept nearly any DOCSIS-certified modem, Optimum maintains a restricted approved device list. Only a small number of specific modem models will be provisioned and activated on their cable network. If you purchase a modem that is not on Optimum's approved list, they will not activate it, and you will not be able to connect to their service. This makes choosing the right device critical before you buy.
Modem Requirements by Service Type
For internet-only customers (no phone service), Optimum requires a DOCSIS 3.1 certified cable modem. If you also subscribe to Optimum Voice, your options narrow further, as Optimum only supports a handful of telephony-capable modems, primarily from Arris. Every modem in this collection has been verified against Optimum's current approved device list so you can buy with confidence and activate without issues.
