Check Your Provider First

The C7000 is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, and several large cable companies have moved their approved lists to DOCSIS 3.1. Whether this is the right buy depends on who you pay for internet.

The C7000 works with cable internet only. It does not work with DSL, fiber, or satellite service, and it does not support home phone service bundled with your cable plan.

What the C7000 Does Well

Setting It Up

Connect the coax cable from the wall to the C7000, plug in the power adapter, and wait for the lights to settle. Join the WiFi network printed on the label, then open the Nighthawk app or a web browser and follow the prompts. Your cable company finishes the job by activating the modem on your account, which usually takes a few minutes online or over the phone. Have the MAC address from the label ready.

Netgear C7000 FAQ

Is the Netgear C7000 a modem or a router?

Both. It has a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and an AC1900 WiFi router built into one unit, so you do not need a separate router.

Does the C7000 work with Xfinity?

Xfinity removed the C7000 from its approved list in April 2026 along with its other DOCSIS 3.0 models. A unit already active may keep running for now, but it can fail to reactivate after a move or plan change. New Xfinity setups should use a DOCSIS 3.1 modem.

Does the C7000 work with Spectrum?

Spectrum ends support for DOCSIS 3.0 modems on October 28, 2026, so the C7000 is not a fit for Spectrum customers.

What internet speed can the C7000 handle?

The modem's 24x8 channel bonding has a theoretical ceiling of 960 Mbps, but providers approve it for plans up to about 500 Mbps. It is a comfortable match for plans from 100 to 500 Mbps.

Can I use my own router with it?

Yes. You can turn off the built-in router in the settings and connect your own router or mesh system to one of the Ethernet ports.

Does it support home phone service?

No. The C7000 has no phone ports and does not work with cable voice plans.
