The Ubiquiti UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) is a 1U rack-mount all-in-one network gateway that combines a wired router, an 8-port Gigabit switch, 10G SFP+ WAN and LAN ports, and a built-in controller for UniFi Network and UniFi Protect in one chassis. Ubiquiti rates it for 10 Gbps of routing throughput and 3.5 Gbps with intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) turned on, and a 3.5 inch drive bay lets you keep camera recordings on a disk you own. It is built for large homes, home labs, and small businesses that want a self-hosted network with local management. It has no WiFi radio and no PoE on its switch ports, and it sits behind a separate cable modem or fiber ONT.

The UDM-Pro hosts the UniFi Network controller on the device itself, so the configuration, client list, and traffic logs live on your hardware rather than on a vendor's cloud. You can manage it from a browser on the LAN, and remote access through Ubiquiti's cloud is optional. The same applies to cameras: UniFi Protect records to the drive you install in the 3.5 inch bay, so your footage does not leave the building unless you choose to share it. Subscription camera systems keep recordings on a third party's servers and stop working if the plan lapses. This is the local-first approach we favor, and the UDM-Pro is one of the few gateways in its class that delivers it in one chassis.
It has no WiFi radio, so every wireless device connects through a separate access point. It has no PoE on the eight switch ports, so UniFi access points and cameras need a PoE switch or injectors; the Gigabit ports are for wired clients and uplinks. It has no hard drive in the box, so budget for a surveillance-rated 3.5 inch drive if you plan to run Protect. And it is not a modem: connect its WAN port to a cable modem such as the Hitron CODA56 for cable plans up to 2.5 Gbps, or to Ubiquiti's own UniFi Cable Internet (UCI) DOCSIS 3.1 modem for a single-vendor stack. Browse our network switches for PoE options and our business routers for alternatives.
The UDM-Pro is a wired gateway and works with any cable, fiber, DSL, or Starlink service that terminates in an Ethernet handoff. Its RJ45 WAN port handles plans up to 1 Gbps, and the 10G SFP+ WAN port (with a direct-attach cable or an SFP+ to RJ45 module, sold separately) handles multi-gig plans from a 2.5 GbE or 10 GbE modem or ONT. If your ISP supplied a combined modem-router, set it to bridge mode so the UDM-Pro handles routing and the firewall.
No. It is a router, switch, and controller in one, but it needs a separate cable modem, fiber ONT, or DSL modem to reach the internet.
No. It has no wireless radio. You add UniFi access points, which the built-in controller manages, and power them from a PoE switch.
No. The eight RJ45 LAN ports are Gigabit data ports without PoE. Cameras and access points need a PoE switch or injectors.
Ubiquiti rates it at 3.5 Gbps with IDS/IPS enabled and 10 Gbps without. For a 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps plan, IDS/IPS can stay on without limiting your speed.
No subscription is required for UniFi Network or Protect, and the controller runs locally on the device. Ubiquiti's cloud remote access is optional and can be left off.
