The Tenda RX12 Pro is an AX3000 dual-band WiFi 6 router rated at 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with one Gigabit WAN port, three Gigabit LAN ports, and five 6 dBi antennas driven by a quad-core 1.7 GHz Broadcom processor. OFDMA and MU-MIMO let it serve a crowded home of phones, TVs, and smart devices at the same time, and it supports WPA3, a guest network, AP mode, and Tenda's WiFi+ mesh with other Tenda units. It is built for homes on plans from 300 Mbps to 1 Gbps and works behind any cable, fiber, or DSL modem with an Ethernet port.

OFDMA is the WiFi 6 feature that splits each transmission into smaller sub-channels so the router can talk to several devices in one time slot instead of one after another. For a home with 20 or 30 small devices that each send tiny bursts of data, OFDMA does more for responsiveness than raw link rate. The 2,402 Mbps 5 GHz figure is the top link rate for a two-stream 160 MHz client, and a typical phone or laptop will see less than half of that in everyday use, which is still above what a gigabit plan delivers over WiFi. The Gigabit WAN port caps wired throughput at about 940 Mbps, so this router is a match for plans up to 1 Gbps.
The RX12 Pro can join a Tenda WiFi+ mesh with the same model or with Tenda's Mesh6X, Mesh12X, RX27 Pro, and TX27 Pro, which puts every room on one network name with automatic handoff. Tenda's guide suggests pairing a second node within about 3 meters of the first, then moving it to its final spot. If you would rather run Ethernet to a second floor, AP mode turns a second RX12 Pro into a plain access point with no second router layer.
The RX12 Pro is a standalone router and works with any cable, fiber, DSL, or Starlink modem or ONT that provides an Ethernet handoff, with PPPoE, dynamic IP, and static IP WAN modes. If your ISP supplied a combined modem-router, put it in bridge mode so the RX12 Pro handles routing, WiFi, and the firewall. Pair it with an owned modem from our DOCSIS 3.1 modem pages to drop the gateway rental fee entirely.
Need WiFi 7 or a 2.5 GbE port?
The Tenda BE12 Pro WiFi 7 router is the next step up for multi-gig plans and WiFi 7 phones and laptops. Stay with the RX12 Pro if your plan is 1 Gbps or slower and your devices are WiFi 6 or older.
It is a router only. It connects to a cable modem, fiber ONT, or DSL modem through its Gigabit WAN port and provides WiFi 6 and four wired ports for your home.
Yes, with any modem approved for that provider. The RX12 Pro does not care which ISP you use; it only needs an Ethernet connection from the modem. See our Xfinity-approved modems guide for modem choices.
Yes. Tenda lists WPA3-SAE along with WPA2-PSK and a mixed WPA2/WPA3 mode so older devices can still connect.
It meshes with the same model and with Tenda's Mesh6X, Mesh12X, RX27 Pro, and TX27 Pro through WiFi+. It does not mesh with other brands, though it can run in AP mode behind any router.
It passes IPsec, PPTP, and L2TP traffic, includes a PPTP server, and can act as a PPTP or L2TP client. For a whole-home WireGuard or OpenVPN setup with a provider such as Proton VPN or Mullvad, a dedicated VPN router is the better tool.
