Starlink Gen 3 Router: Tri-Band WiFi 6 Mesh Router

The Starlink Gen 3 Router is Starlink's tri-band WiFi 6 router, the same model that ships in the Standard 4 X Kit, where Starlink calls it Router 3. On its own it does two jobs: it extends an existing Starlink network as a mesh node, or it replaces the main router on a Starlink system. It works with Starlink service only and is not a router for cable, fiber, or DSL internet.

Extend Your Starlink WiFi as a Mesh Node

Used as a mesh node, the Gen 3 Router repeats your Starlink network into rooms the main router does not reach. Mesh is a set of WiFi units that work together under one network name. Pairing takes a few minutes:

1. Confirm your Starlink is online and your phone is on its WiFi.
2. Place the Gen 3 Router no more than two rooms from the main router, off the floor and away from concrete walls and large mirrors.
3. Plug it in with the included power supply and power cable.
4. Open the Starlink app and wait 1 to 2 minutes for the Pair New Mesh Node notice.
5. Tap Pair. The node appears on the Network screen after 1 to 2 minutes.

A white line in the app means the node is connected, yellow means a weak signal, and red means disconnected. Move the node closer if the line is yellow. Starlink recommends a wired link between routers for the best performance.

Replace the Main Router

The Gen 3 Router is a direct replacement for the router in a Standard 4 X Kit. It can also take over as the base router on an older Gen 2 (Standard Actuated) kit, which adds WiFi 6 and two Ethernet ports to that system. On a Gen 2 kit you also need an Ethernet adapter for the Gen 2 router, and you put the Gen 2 router into bypass in the Starlink app. Leaving bypass later requires a factory reset of that router.

Two Ethernet Ports
