Why Buy Your Own Mediacom Modem?
Mediacom charges up to $14 per month to rent a modem. That adds up to $168 per year you could save by owning your own Mediacom compatible modem instead. Most modems in our collection pay for themselves within a few months.
Every modem on this page has been verified for compatibility with Mediacom cable internet service. Whether you are on a 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 500 Mbps, or 1 Gig plan, you will find a modem here that matches your speed tier.
Which DOCSIS Version Does Mediacom Require?
Mediacom requires a DOCSIS 3.1 modem for gigabit internet plans. For plans under 300 Mbps, a DOCSIS 3.0 modem with at least 8x4 channel bonding will work, though Mediacom recommends DOCSIS 3.1 across the board for better performance and future-proofing. If you subscribe to Mediacom voice service, you will need a modem with an embedded multimedia terminal adapter (eMTA) for telephone functionality.
How to Activate Your Modem on Mediacom
Setting up your own modem on Mediacom is straightforward. Connect your new modem to the coaxial cable outlet and power it on. Then contact Mediacom customer support and provide the MAC address and serial number found on the modem label. Mediacom will register the device on their network, and you should be online within minutes.
Choosing the Right Modem for Your Plan
For Mediacom Internet 1 Gig, choose a DOCSIS 3.1 modem such as the ARRIS SB8200, Netgear CM1100, or Motorola MB8600. For Internet 500, a DOCSIS 3.1 modem is recommended but a 32x8 DOCSIS 3.0 modem can also handle the speeds. For Internet 200 and below, an 8x4 or higher DOCSIS 3.0 modem is sufficient.
